Clearances
Indoor Unit Minimum Clearance
A minimum of 25 inches (approx. 63.5 cm) is required in front of the unit for service clearance.
The drain pan must be at least 2 inches (approx. 5 cm) away from a standard gas-fired furnace heat exchanger and at least 4-6 inches (approx. 10-15 cm) away from any drum-type or oil-fired furnace heat exchanger.
Outdoor Unit Minimum Clearance
Note: Install the Outdoor Unit 2 inches (approx. 5 cm) above the expected snow line.
1. When one outdoor unit is to be installed:
Clearance requirements (in inches) for a single outdoor unit installation, specifying minimum distances (a, b, c, d, e) based on relationships between unit height (H) and other dimensions (Hb, Hd):
- A, B, C, E: Minimum clearances are typically ≥12 inches for 'a', 'b', and 'c', and ≥40 inches for 'd' and 'e'. Specific conditions apply based on height ratios (e.g., H ≤ 1/2H, 1/2H < H ≤ H, H > H).
- D: Minimum clearance of ≥80 inches for 'd' and 'e'.
- B, D: Minimum clearance of ≥10 inches for 'a', ≥80 inches for 'd', and ≥40 inches for 'e', with conditions on height ratios.
- B, D, E: Minimum clearance of ≥10 inches for 'a', ≥80 inches for 'd', and ≥40 inches for 'e', with conditions on height ratios.
2. When two or more outdoor units are to be installed side by side:

- D, D,E: Minimum clearance of ≥80 inches for 'd' and 'e'.
- B,D, B,D,E: Minimum clearances include ≥10 inches for 'a', ≥80 inches for 'd', and ≥40 inches for 'e', with height ratio conditions.
3. When outdoor units are installed in rows:
Clearance requirements (in inches) for outdoor units installed in rows, specifying minimum distances (b, d) based on unit height (H) and other dimensions (Hb, Hd):
- H ≤ 1/2H: Minimum 'b' is 10 inches, 'd' is ≥80 inches.
- 1/2H < H ≤ H: Minimum 'b' is 12 inches, 'd' is ≥160 inches.
- H > H: Prohibited.
4. When outdoor units are installed one above another:
Clearance requirements (in inches) for outdoor units installed vertically, specifying minimum distances (a, b, H) based on unit height (H) and other dimensions (Hb):
- Minimum 'a' is 20 inches, 'b' is ≥3 inches, and the lower unit's height (H) requires a minimum clearance of ≥80 inches above it.
