Plug and Play
This section guides you through the initial setup of your Powerline Wi-Fi Kit.
Diagram Description: A typical home network setup is illustrated. An Internet source connects to a Wireless Router. The router is connected via an Ethernet cable to a TP-Link Powerline Adapter (TL-PA7017), which is plugged into a wall outlet. The Powerline Adapter is then connected via an Ethernet cable to a TP-Link Powerline Extender (TL-WPA7517), which is also plugged into a wall outlet. The extender broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal.
Step 1: Connect the Adapter
Plug the Powerline Adapter (TL-PA7017) into a power outlet. Connect it to your router's LAN port using an Ethernet cable.
Step 2: Connect the Extender
Plug the Powerline Extender (TL-WPA7517) into a power outlet on the same electrical circuit as the adapter. Wait until the extender's Powerline LED turns on. Note: If the LED is off, please refer to FAQ > Q2.
Step 3: Enjoy Internet Access
Connect your devices to the internet using the default SSID (network name) and password found on the label at the top of the extender.
Extender Label Information:
- SSID: TP-Link_XXXX
- SSID (5G): TP-Link_XXXX_5G
- Wireless Password: XXXXXXXX
Tip: Want to unify or personalize your network? See the back page for instructions.
Attention
- Use the product only in the upright direction. ⬆️
- Plug powerline devices directly into wall outlets, not into power strips. Note: Using a power strip will affect network performance or even cause connection drops.
Visual Aid:
- Wall Outlet: [Directly plugged into wall socket] ?
- Power Strip: [Plugged into a multi-socket power strip] ⚡
Unify Your Wi-Fi Networks
Copy the SSID and password from your router to create one unified Wi-Fi network throughout your home. Note: If your router doesn't support the two methods below, refer to the 'Personalize Your Networks' section to manually change the extender's Wi-Fi settings.
Method ONE: Via Wi-Fi Button
This method can be used when your router has a WPS button.
- Plug in the extender in the same room as your router. Wait until the extender's Wi-Fi LED turns on.
- Press your router's WPS button. Within 2 minutes, press the extender's Wi-Fi button for 1 second. The extender's Wi-Fi LED will start blinking. When it stays on, Wi-Fi settings have been copied. Note: If Wi-Fi settings are not copied within 2 minutes, manually change the extender's Wi-Fi settings.
- Relocate the extender and enjoy the internet using your router's SSID and password.
Diagram Description: Shows a router with a WPS button and an extender. The process involves pressing the router's WPS button, then the extender's Wi-Fi button. The extender's Wi-Fi LED status changes from blinking to solid On, indicating successful Wi-Fi setting synchronization.
Method TWO: Via OneMesh™
This method can be used when your router supports OneMesh™.
- Connect your computer to the extender wirelessly. Visit http://tplinkplc.net.
- Navigate to the OneMesh™ section and toggle on 'Join OneMesh'. When the extender's Wi-Fi LED turns solid on, Wi-Fi settings have been copied.
- Enjoy the internet using your router's SSID and password. Any changes made to your router's Wi-Fi settings will be automatically copied to the extender.
Diagram Description: Illustrates connecting a computer to the extender wirelessly and accessing the web interface. It shows that the extender will adopt the 'SAME SSID & Password' as the router.
Create a Secure Powerline Network by Pairing
You can only pair two devices at a time. It is recommended to plug in the powerline devices near each other when pairing.
- Press the Pair button on the adapter (TL-PA7017) for 1 second. Its Power LED should start blinking. Note: If the Power LED does not blink, press the Pair button again.
- Within 2 minutes, press the extender's (TL-WPA7517) Pair button for 1 second. Its Power LED should start blinking.
- When the extender's Powerline LED turns on, a secure powerline network has been successfully created.
Diagram Description: Shows the adapter and extender. The process involves pressing the 'Pair' button on each device sequentially. The Power LEDs blink during pairing, and the Powerline LED on the extender turns solid On upon successful pairing.
Sync Wi-Fi Settings to More Extenders
If you have additional extenders, simply plug them in and pair each one with the existing adapter to join the network. The Wi-Fi settings will then automatically sync from the existing extender to the new ones.
