Introduction

This guide demonstrates the setup process for the TP-Link TL-PA7017 KIT. The European version (TL-PA7017 KIT) is used for demonstration; actual products may differ.

Quick Installation

Follow these steps to set up your powerline network:

  1. Step 1: Connect the first TP-Link TL-PA7017 adapter to your router via an Ethernet cable and plug it into a wall outlet. Ensure it's on the same electrical circuit as the other adapter.

  2. Step 2: Plug the second TL-PA7017 adapter into another wall outlet on the same electrical circuit. Connect your device (e.g., a computer) to this adapter via an Ethernet cable.

Attention: Always plug powerline devices directly into wall outlets, not into power strips.

Adding More Devices: To extend your network, simply plug additional TP-Link powerline adapters or extenders into wall sockets on the same electrical circuit.

Set Up a Secure Powerline Network by Pairing (Recommended)

You can create or join a secure powerline network by pairing two devices at a time. It is recommended to plug the powerline devices near each other when pairing.

To Create a Secure Powerline Network:

  1. Press the Pair button on one powerline device for 1 second. Its Power LED should start blinking. (If the Power LED does not blink, press the Pair button again.)
  2. Within 2 minutes, press the Pair button on another device for 1 second. Its Power LED should start blinking.
  3. When the Powerline LED lights up solid, a powerline network has been successfully created.

To Join an Existing Secure Powerline Network:

  1. Press the Pair button on any of the existing powerline devices for 1 second. Its Power LED starts blinking. (If the Power LED does not blink, press the Pair button again.)
  2. Within 2 minutes, press the Pair button on the new powerline adapter for 1 second. Its Power LED starts blinking.
  3. When the Powerline LED turns on solid, the process is complete.

Powerline Blinking slowly Power-Saving Mode is on. (This mode activates five minutes after the connected device is turned off or becomes inactive.)
Ethernet On/Off The Ethernet port is connected or disconnected.

Q1. How do I reset my powerline adapter?
With the powerline adapter plugged into an electrical outlet, press and hold the Pair button for more than 6 seconds until the Power LED goes off momentarily and then comes back on.
Q2. What should I do if the Powerline LED is off?
  • Try another wall socket and ensure all powerline devices are on the same electrical circuit.
  • Try to set up a powerline network by pairing. Refer to the "Set Up a Secure Powerline Network by Pairing" section for instructions.
  • If the problem persists, contact TP-Link Technical Support.
Q3. What should I do if there is no internet connection in my powerline network?
  • Make sure all powerline devices are on the same electrical circuit.
  • Ensure the Powerline LEDs are lit on all your powerline devices. If not, pair all devices again.
  • Verify that all devices are correctly and securely connected.
  • Check your internet connection by connecting a computer directly to the modem or router.
Q4. What should I do if a successfully-paired powerline device does not reconnect after it is relocated?
  • Try another socket and confirm it is on the same electrical circuit.
  • Attempt to pair the device again, ensuring the Powerline LED is on.
  • Check for potential interference from household appliances (e.g., washing machine, air conditioner) that might be too close to a powerline device. If your powerline device has an integrated electrical socket, plug the interfering appliance into it to filter out electrical noise.
