SECTION A Safety Information
Please read all instructions before installation and use.
- Ensure the power supply is 110-120V, 60Hz.
- Do not install in areas where temperatures exceed 104°F (40°C).
- Do not bend or damage the power cord.
- Follow all local building and electrical codes, including NEC and OSHA regulations.
- Disconnect power at the circuit breaker before servicing.
- Protect all wiring from sharp edges, oil, grease, and heat sources.
- Do not install where airflow is restricted.
- Ensure adequate air intake for proper ventilation.
- Approved for installation above a shower or bathtub when connected to a GFCI-protected circuit. The control switch must be located out of reach.
- Do not use to ventilate hazardous or explosive materials.
- Do not operate the fan with solid-state speed controls.
- This unit is double insulated and does not require grounding.
- Do not install in cooking areas (see Fig. A).
Fig. A Description: A diagram illustrating a cooking area. It shows cooking equipment on a floor and indicates a zone labeled "Cooking area" with a dashed outline, stating "Do not install above or inside this area".
- Exhaust air must be vented outdoors not into wall cavities, ceilings, attics, or garages.
- Install the fan at least 7 feet (2.1 meters) above the floor.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, follow all safety precautions and do not install the fan in prohibited zones.
- Use only as intended by the manufacturer. Contact customer service with questions.
- Installation must be performed by a qualified professional, following all local safety codes and fire-rated construction rules.
- Ensure proper airflow and venting for gas-burning appliances to prevent backdrafting. Follow NFPA and ASHRAE guidelines.
- Do not install in ceilings with insulation values greater than R40.
- Avoid damaging hidden utilities or wiring during installation.
- Always lock or tag the power source before servicing. If locking is not possible, use a warning tag to indicate that the power should not be turned on.
- For over-shower or bathtub installation, ensure the product is rated for that use and installed at least 1 meter (3.3 ft) from the water source (see Fig. B). The fan should be installed on the opposite side of the tub on the ceiling. It is acceptable for use over a bathtub or shower when connected to a GFCI-protected branch circuit (refer to Fig. B).
Fig. B Description: A diagram showing a bathtub with a shower. An arrow indicates the fan's placement above the tub, with a label ">1.0M" signifying a minimum distance from the water source.
- Do not connect to rigid metal conduit; use flexible conduit only.
- Keep ductwork straight and minimize bends.
- Ductwork size must be a minimum of the discharge and should not be reduced.

PLANNING INSTALLATION
Before starting the installation, ensure that all parts are present. Compare the parts with the package contents list and hardware list. If any part is missing or damaged, do not proceed with the installation.
WARNING: Turn off the power at the breaker box before beginning installation.
NOTE: Wiring configuration may vary depending on your previous fan setup. Some components needed for installation may not be included. Additional supplies can be found at your local hardware store.
SECTION D Installation-Template
Diagram Descriptions:
- Diagram 1: Shows a ceiling with a "Wood Frame" and a "Ceiling". A dashed line indicates a cut along track size B*B.
- Diagram 2: Shows the "Wood Frame" fixed onto the ceiling.
- Diagram 3: Illustrates the "Housing" and "Outer Frame" components of the fan.
- Diagram 4: Shows the power cord connecting to a "Socket" and a "Power Switch".
- Diagram 5: Depicts screwing the fan base into the wood frame. Angle brackets can be added for extra support if needed.
- Diagram 6: Shows how to squeeze "spring clips" on the grille and align them with the mounting slots to securely install and fasten the panel in place.
SECTION E Installation-Operating Instructions
- Mark the Ceiling: Draw a square measuring 11.6" x 11.6" on the ceiling where you plan to install the fan.
- Cut the Square Opening: Use the appropriate tools to carefully cut out the square you marked in step 1.
- Prepare Wooden Support Boards: Take two wooden boards, each measuring 3" wide, 1" thick, and 14" long. The boards should be sturdy. Place them inside the square opening, projecting approximately 0.9" from the ceiling. Secure the boards firmly to the ceiling using nails or screws.
- Set Up Ventilation Duct and Power Cord: Before proceeding, prepare the ventilation duct and power cord. Connect the ventilation duct to the fan's outlet, and connect the power cord from the fan to the control switch. The control switch will allow you to operate the fan. Refer to the wiring diagram in Chapter 2 for guidance. If you are not familiar with electrical work, please hire a licensed electrician to handle the wiring.
- Install the Fan: Once the duct and wiring are connected, carefully insert the fan into the square opening. Use screws to secure the fan in place, following the direction indicated by the arrow in the provided image.
- Attach the Panel: Grip the spring clips on both sides of the panel and align them with the installation holes on the fan unit. Once aligned, firmly secure and fasten the panel into place.
- Installation Complete: Congratulations! Your exhaust fan installation is now complete.
SECTION F Ventilation Fan Operation
- Turning the Fan On: Flip the wall switch to the ON position to activate the fan.
- Turning the Fan Off: Flip the wall switch to the OFF position to deactivate the fan.
Humidity Sensor Operation (Model VH1797):
SKU | Humidity Level | Mode | Airflow (CFM) |
---|---|---|---|
VH1797 | Less than or equal to 60% | Quiet Mode | 30 CFM |
VH1797 | Between 50% and 80% | Normal Mode | 110 CFM |
VH1797 | Above 80% | Storm Mode | 160 CFM |
NOTE: The product's humidity sensor cannot be manually adjusted. The fan automatically adjusts its airflow based on the surrounding humidity levels.
SECTION G Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
---|---|
The fan seems louder than it should | CFM is too high for the room size: Make sure the fan's CFM rating matches the square footage of your room. |
Damper is damaged or not working properly: Check that the damper opens and closes correctly. Contact Customer Service if damaged. | |
Duct bend is too close to the fan discharge: Ensure there are no sharp bends in the duct within 18 inches of the fan discharge. | |
Fan discharge was reduced to fit smaller ducting: Use the recommended duct size to prevent noise. | |
Fan is not securely mounted: Check that the fan body is firmly attached to the ceiling joists. | |
The fan is not clearing the room | Insufficient airflow intake: Keep a door or window slightly open to allow fresh air to enter the room. |
CFM is too low for the room size: Ensure the fan's CFM rating is appropriate for the room's square footage. |
NOTE: Holding a tissue near the fan is not a reliable test. If the fan clears steam within ~15 minutes after a shower, it is functioning properly.
SECTION H Cautions
- Read all instructions and safety warnings before beginning installation. Review the exploded view diagram provided.
- Disconnect power at the circuit breaker or by removing the fuse before performing any electrical work. This ensures full disconnection from the power supply.
