Setup and Installation
Machine Installation
Place the machine on a stable, dry surface away from water sources like sinks or taps. Do not place it in rooms where temperatures may fall below 0°C, as freezing water can damage the machine. Ensure adequate ventilation: at least 3 cm clearance above the machine and 15 cm on the sides and rear.
Machine Connection
Check that the voltage indicated on the machine's rating plate matches your home's electrical supply. Ensure the electrical outlet is properly grounded and rated for at least 10 amps. If the plug does not match the socket, have it replaced by a qualified electrician.
Filling the Water Tank
Lift the water tank (A1) from its compartment, fill with fresh water up to the MAX line, and reinsert it firmly. Never operate the machine without water or with the tank improperly seated. Check the water level using the indicator (A12).
Initial Setup and Priming
- Turn on the machine using the On/Off switch (A11). The 'Ready' indicator (B3) will light up.
- Insert the filter holder (C1) into the machine without coffee grounds.
- Place a container under the coffee outlet (A13) and another under the steam/hot water outlet (A9).
- Turn the mode selector dial (B1) to the 2/6 position. Dispense about half a container of water from the coffee outlet until the OK indicator (B2) lights up.
- Turn the steam knob (A6) to the 5/回 position. Dispense about half a container of steam/hot water from the steam/hot water outlet.
- Turn the steam knob (A6) to the '0' position and the mode selector dial (B1) to the 'I' (standby) position.
- Empty the containers and repeat steps 4 to 6. The machine is now ready for use.
Auto-Off Function
The machine will automatically switch off after a period of inactivity (the duration varies by model).
Tip for Hotter Coffee
To ensure your coffee is hotter, preheat the machine by inserting the filter holder (without coffee) and running hot water through the coffee outlet. Also, warm your cups by placing them on the cup warming plate (A2) or by rinsing them with hot water.
Operation
Making Espresso with Ground Coffee
- Ensure the mode selector dial (B1) is set to 'I' (standby).
- Insert the appropriate filter (C2 for 1 cup, C3 for 2 cups) into the filter holder (C1).
- Add ground coffee to the filter (approx. 7g for 1 cup, 12-14g for 2 cups). Level the coffee and tamp gently with the tamper (C5). Avoid over-tamping or under-tamping.
- Ensure the filter holder is clean and free of old coffee grounds.
- Insert the filter holder into the machine and lock it securely.
- Place your cup(s) under the coffee outlet (A13).
- Turn the mode selector dial (B1) to the 2/6 position. The OK indicator (B2) will light up when the machine is ready.
- Dispense coffee. Turn the dial to 'I' to stop the flow.
- Remove the filter holder and discard the used coffee grounds. Caution: Do not remove the filter holder while the machine is brewing.
Making Espresso with ESE Pods
- Use only ESE (Easy Serving Espresso) certified pods.
- Insert the ESE pod filter (C4) into the filter holder (C1).
- Place the ESE pod into the filter holder, centering it.
- Insert the filter holder into the machine and lock it securely.
- Follow steps 6 to 9 from 'Making Espresso with Ground Coffee'.
Making Cappuccino
- Prepare an espresso shot as described above.
- Pour approximately 100ml of cold milk into a jug. Use milk that has been refrigerated.
- Turn the steam knob (A6) to the 5/回 position. Wait for the OK indicator (B2) to light up.
- Briefly dispense steam to clear any water from the frother.
- Insert the cappuccino nozzle (A8) about 5mm into the milk.
- Turn the steam knob (A6) to the 4/回 position. The milk will start to froth and increase in volume.
- Once the milk volume has doubled, immerse the frother deeper into the milk to heat it to the desired temperature (around 60°C).
- Turn the steam knob (A6) to the '0' position and the mode selector dial (B1) to the 'I' (standby) position.
- Pour the frothed milk into the espresso. You can sprinkle cocoa powder on top for extra flavor.
- Note: If making multiple cappuccinos, prepare all espresso shots first, then froth the milk. If switching from steaming to brewing, allow the machine to cool down first.
Making Macchiato
Follow the cappuccino instructions, but use less milk and froth for a shorter period.
Making Hot Water
- Turn on the machine and wait for the OK indicator (B2) to light up.
- Place a container under the steam/hot water outlet (A9).
- Turn the steam knob (A6) to the 5/回 position.
- Turn the mode selector dial (B1) to the 2/6 position. Hot water will dispense.
- Turn the steam knob (A6) to '0' and the mode selector dial (B1) to 'I' to stop the flow. Caution: Do not dispense hot water for more than 60 seconds continuously.
Maintenance and Cleaning
General Cleaning
Regularly clean the drip tray (A15), filter holders (C2, C3, C4), coffee outlet (A13), and water tank (A1). Refer to specific instructions for cleaning the cappuccino frother. Important: Do not use abrasive or corrosive descaling agents, solvents, or alcohol. Do not use metal objects to remove scale or coffee deposits, as this can scratch the surfaces.
Cleaning Drip Tray
Remove the drip tray (A15) and the cup tray grid (A14). Empty the drip tray, clean it with a damp cloth, and reassemble. Clean the drip tray float indicator (A16) if necessary.
Cleaning Filter Holders
Rinse the filter holders (C2, C3, C4) under running water. Ensure the small holes are not blocked; use a pin if necessary.
Cleaning Coffee Outlet
- Ensure the machine is cool and unplugged from the power outlet.
- Unscrew the coffee outlet assembly (refer to diagram for location).
- Remove the filter from the outlet assembly.
- Clean the coffee outlet with a damp cloth.
- Thoroughly rinse the filter with hot water, clearing any blockages with a pin if needed.
- Rinse again with clean water and wipe dry.
- Reassemble the coffee outlet, ensuring the gasket is correctly positioned. Failure to follow these steps may void the warranty.
Cleaning Water Tank
Clean the water tank (A1) monthly or when changing the water filter (C7) using a damp cloth and mild detergent. Rinse the water filter before inserting it. Refill the tank with water and reinsert.
Descaling
It is recommended to descale the machine every 200 coffee preparations or as needed. Use DeLonghi descaler (C6) according to the product instructions.
- Fill the water tank with the diluted descaling solution.
- Turn on the machine. Ensure the filter holder is removed and a container is placed under the steam/hot water outlet.
- Turn the mode selector dial (B1) to the 2/6 position and dispense about 1/4 of the water. Then, turn the steam knob (A6) to the 5/回 position and dispense water from the steam/hot water outlet.
- Turn the dial to 'I' to stop dispensing and let the solution work for 5 minutes.
- Repeat this process three times until the water tank is empty.
- To remove any residual descaler, rinse the water tank thoroughly and refill with fresh water.
- Turn the mode selector dial (B1) to the 2/6 position. Dispense water. Then, turn the steam knob (A6) to the 5/回 position and dispense water from the steam/hot water outlet until the tank is empty.
- Repeat steps 7 and 8.
