To clean, use a damp cloth and mild soap. IMPORTANT: Keep liquids away from the console and out of direct sunlight to avoid damage.
Console Troubleshooting
- Console does not turn on: Ensure the power adapter is fully plugged in.
- Lines appear in display: Adjust contrast level via console settings (page 22).
- Replacement power adapter: Call the number on the cover. Use only manufacturer-supplied regulated adapters.
How to Adjust the Reed Switch
If the console does not display correct feedback, adjust the reed switch. Unplug the power adapter. Pry off the left Disc (71). Locate the Reed Switch (38). Turn the Pulley (19) until a Magnet (43) aligns with the Reed Switch. Loosen the two M4 x 13mm Self-tapping Screws (50). Slide the Reed Switch (38) slightly closer to or away from the Magnet (43), then retighten screws. Plug in the power adapter and rock the Pulley (19) back and forth so the Magnet (43) passes the Reed Switch (38) repeatedly. Adjust until the console displays correct feedback. Reattach the disc and plug in the power adapter.
Diagram Description: Shows prying off the Disc (71), locating the Reed Switch (38) and Magnet (43) on the Pulley (19), loosening screws (50), adjusting the switch position, and testing by rocking the pulley.

Exercise Guidelines
WARNING: Before beginning this or any exercise program, consult your physician. This is especially important for persons over age 35 or persons with pre-existing health problems.
These guidelines help plan your exercise program. For detailed information, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician. Proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results.
Exercise Intensity
Exercising at the proper intensity is key to achieving results for fat burning or cardiovascular strengthening. Use your heart rate as a guide.
Age (Rounded) | Fat Burning (Low Intensity) | Maximum Fat Burning | Aerobic Exercise (High Intensity) |
---|---|---|---|
20 | 120 BPM | 140 BPM | 180 BPM |
30 | 114 BPM | 132 BPM | 170 BPM |
40 | 108 BPM | 124 BPM | 160 BPM |
50 | 102 BPM | 116 BPM | 150 BPM |
60 | 96 BPM | 108 BPM | 140 BPM |
70 | 90 BPM | 100 BPM | 130 BPM |
Burning Fat: Exercise at a low intensity for a sustained period. Your body uses carbohydrate calories first, then stored fat calories. Adjust intensity until heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone. For maximum fat burning, aim for the middle number.
Aerobic Exercise: To strengthen your cardiovascular system, perform aerobic exercise (activity requiring large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods). Adjust intensity until heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone.
How to Measure Your Heart Rate
Exercise for at least four minutes. Stop, place two fingers on your wrist, and count heartbeats for six seconds. Multiply by 10 for beats per minute (e.g., 14 beats x 10 = 140 BPM).
Workout Guidelines
- Warming Up: Start with 5-10 minutes of stretching and light exercise to increase body temperature, heart rate, and circulation.
- Training Zone Exercise: Exercise for 20-30 minutes with your heart rate in your training zone. (Limit to 20 minutes during the first few weeks). Breathe regularly; do not hold your breath.
- Cooling Down: Finish with 5-10 minutes of stretching to increase flexibility and prevent post-exercise problems.
Exercise Frequency
Complete three workouts per week with at least one rest day between workouts to maintain or improve condition. After a few months, up to five workouts per week may be desired. Consistency is key to making exercise a regular part of your life.
Suggested Stretches
The correct form for several basic stretches is shown. Move slowly; never bounce.
- Toe Touch Stretch: Stand with knees slightly bent, bend forward from hips, relax back and shoulders, reach toward toes. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of knees, and back.
- Hamstring Stretch: Sit with one leg extended. Bring sole of opposite foot toward you, rest against inner thigh of extended leg. Reach toward toes. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times for each leg. Stretches: Hamstrings, lower back, and groin.
- Calf/Achilles Stretch: With one leg forward, place hands against a wall. Keep back leg straight and foot flat. Bend front leg, lean forward, move hips toward wall. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times for each leg. To stretch Achilles tendons further, bend the back leg. Stretches: Calves, Achilles tendons, and ankles.
- Quadriceps Stretch: With one hand against a wall for balance, reach back and grasp one foot. Bring heel as close to buttocks as possible. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times for each leg. Stretches: Quadriceps and hip muscles.
- Inner Thigh Stretch: Sit with soles of feet together, knees outward. Pull feet toward groin area. Hold for 15 counts, relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Quadriceps and hip muscles.
Diagram Description: Illustrations showing the proper posture for performing each of the five suggested stretches.
