TÜV SÜD Tire Test 2017: Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 Performance

Introduction

This report details the findings of a tire performance test conducted by TÜV SÜD in 2017. The primary focus was on the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 tire, with its performance benchmarked against several competitor tires across a range of conditions.

Notes: The test samples of the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 were provided by the client. The compliance to market tire was verified. All other tires were purchased from the normal market by TÜV SÜD. TÜV SÜD randomly selected the tires for the individual tests.

In most tests, the reference/control tire is tested repeatedly to detect and consider changes in ambient test parameters, correcting performance by linear interpolation. Generally, all tires are evaluated relative to the reference/control tire. Performance is expressed as a percentage value, calculated from measured and corrected test data. In this evaluation, each tire's performance is assessed relative to the candidate tire (Goodyear = 100%). A percentage greater than 100% indicates better performance, while less than 100% indicates worse performance.

Test Results

Aquaplaning Straight-Line Performance

Test conditions: Water depth ~ 8mm, Aquaplaning speed at 15% slip difference. Result for Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2: Mean Aquaplaning speed: 83.0 km/h.

Wet Braking Performance

Test conditions: ABS-braking, Speed range: 80 to 20 km/h, Tested on low friction coefficient wet surface. Result for Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2: Mean Stopping distance / mean deceleration: 33.5 m / 6.90 m/s².

Test conditions: ESP off, Circle radius: 27 m, Test surface: wet asphalt circle. Result for Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2: Mean Lap time / mean lateral acceleration: 11.50 sec / 8.05 m/s².

Wet Handling Performance

Test conditions: ESP off, Subjective assessment & lap times. Handling track with wet asphalt, length: 1650 m. Result for Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2: Mean Speed: 65.1 km/h, Rating (out of max. 10): 7.92.

Dry Braking Performance

Low Rolling Resistance Performance

Test conditions: According to ISO 28580 / EC 1222/2009, Electrical power method. Load & Inflation: 536/492 kg - 2.50/2.10 bar. Result for Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2: RR-Force FR = 44.1 N, RR-Coefficient cR = 8.38 kg/t (EC Label RRC = 8.1).

Pass-by Noise

Test conditions: In accordance to ECE R117. Reference speed: 80 km/h. Load & Inflation FA / RA: 944 / 946 kg - 1.90 / 1.90 bar. Result for Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2: LR(Jref) = 70.8 dB(A), Noise level acc. ECE R117 = 69 dB(A).
