Safety Information
DANGER:
- For your protection and safety, carefully read and understand all information before assembly, installation, or operation. Failure to do so could lead to electrical shock, fire, or other serious injuries.
- If using in a WET location, connect to a circuit protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI).
- DO NOT connect to an electrical system without a grounding means. Never use a fixture in a two-wire system without grounding. Improper grounding can cause metal parts to carry electrical currents, leading to shock.
- DO NOT connect the bare or green fixture ground wire to the black (HOT) or white (NEUTRAL) house wire. This can cause metal parts to carry electrical currents, leading to shock.
- DO NOT damage or cut wire insulation during installation. Keep wires from sharp edges to prevent damage and potential shock.
WARNING:
- This product must be installed according to applicable installation codes by a person familiar with its construction and the hazards involved.
- All electrical connections must comply with local codes, ordinances, the National Electric Code (NEC), and ANSI/NFPA 70-1999. Contact your local building department for code information. Dwellings built before 1985 may have supply wire rated for 140 °F; consult a qualified electrician.
- To avoid personal injury, wear gloves when handling parts with sharp edges.
- Fixtures must be mounted directly to a post or pier base installed according to product instructions. Wire connectors do not support fixture weight.
- Wire connectors provided are designed for one 12-gauge house wire and two fixture lead wires. For different wire gauges or multiple house wires, consult an electrician.
- DO NOT use power tools for assembly.
- Failure to caulk the mounting surface with silicone weather sealant may result in water damage and electrical malfunction.
CAUTION:
- TURN OFF ELECTRICITY at the main fuse box or circuit breaker before installation.
- If unsure about grounding, DO NOT install. Contact a qualified electrician.
- Mount fixtures to a post or pier base installed per manufacturer's instructions.
- DO NOT use bulbs with wattage higher than specified.
- If using a dimmer control, consult a professional for correct type and rating.
- Install fixture at least 4 ft. above the ground/floor to avoid water damage or electrical malfunction.
Preparation
Before assembly, ensure all parts are present by comparing them with the package and hardware lists. Do not assemble if parts are missing or damaged.
Estimated Assembly Time: 25 minutes
Tools Required for Assembly (not included): Flathead Screwdriver, Phillips Screwdriver, Wire Strippers, Pliers, Wire Cutters, Safety Glasses, Stepladder, Electrical Tape, Silicone Weather Sealant
Helpful Tools (not included): A/C Tester Light, Do-It-Yourself Wiring Handbook, Soft Cloth
Assembly Instructions
- Turn off circuit breakers and wall switch to the fixture supply line. DANGER: Failure to disconnect power supply may result in serious injury or death.
- If applicable, remove existing fixture and disconnect all electrical wiring.
- Prepare fixture wires: Unwrap BARE wire from BLACK and WHITE wires on fixture (A). Strip 3/4 inch of insulation from wire ends using wire strippers.
- Connect wires:
- Connect BARE/GREEN ground wire from outlet box to BARE ground wire from fixture (A) using wire connector (AA).
- Connect WHITE wire from fixture (A) to WHITE wire from outlet box using wire connector (AA).
- Connect BLACK wire from fixture (A) to BLACK wire from outlet box using wire connector (AA).
NOTE: Screw wire connectors (AA) clockwise.
WARNING: Never connect ground wire to WHITE or BLACK power supply wires.
WARNING: Wire connectors (AA) are designed for one 12-gauge house wire and two fixture lead wires. Consult an electrician for larger gauge wires or multiple house wires.
- Wrap electrical tape around each wire connector (AA). WARNING: Ensure no bare wire or strands are visible after making connections.
- Secure fixture: Push excess wiring and connectors (AA) into the post or pier base. Place fixture (A) onto the mounting surface and secure with mounting screw (BB).
- Install panels: Slide one panel (C), beveled side out, into slots on each side of fixture (A). Repeat for all panels.
- Install bulb: Install one 60-watt max. standard-base incandescent bulb or CFL/LED equivalent (bulb not included). WARNING: Allow bulb and fixture to cool before touching when replacing bulb.
- Attach fixture cover: Locate two posts on the underside of fixture cover (B). Insert one post into the non-slotted hole on the top edge of fixture (A), then insert the other post into the slotted hole. Align the tab on fixture cover (B) with the edge of fixture (A) and lower the cover. Pull up on the cover to ensure the tab snaps securely. CAUTION: Failure to verify the fixture cover is secure may result in it coming loose or falling off.
- Restore power and test fixture. If the light does not function, refer to Troubleshooting.
- Caulk mounting surface: Caulk fixture (A) mounting surface with silicone weather sealant (not included). WARNING: Failure to caulk may result in water damage and electrical malfunction.
Care and Maintenance
- Shut off main power supply.
- Wipe fixture with a soft, damp cloth.
- Use window cleaner to clean panels.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners on panels or fixture.
Troubleshooting
WARNING: Before beginning work, shut off the power supply to avoid electrical shock.
