ZigBee Pro Module Installation Guide

VT8000 Series Room Controllers

Optional ZigBee Pro Module (VCM8000V5000P)

Module Overview

The following image shows the ZigBee Pro module. It is a printed circuit board (PCB) featuring various electronic components. Prominently visible is a large integrated circuit labeled "CC2538SF53 TI 311 AZPC G4". Other components include smaller chips, connectors for interfacing, and the Viconics logo. Markings on the board include a date code "02/08/2013" and a part number "M/B٥/٦٧٢٧٠ 001-0179-A3".

Installation Procedure

This guide shows you how to install the ZigBee Pro wireless module with a VT8000 Series Room Controller.

  1. Remove the security screw located on the bottom of the Room Controller cover.
  2. Open the unit by pulling on the bottom of the Room Controller. (Refer to Figure 1: A diagram showing how to open the Room Controller unit by separating the bottom section from the main body.)
  3. Carefully remove the Room Controller's motherboard from its casing and turn it over.
  4. Locate the gap in the upper-right corner of the Room Controller's motherboard. Identify the holes where the ZigBee Pro module will be inserted into the motherboard. (Refer to Figure 2: A diagram illustrating the Room Controller motherboard with a specific area highlighted for module alignment and insertion.)
  5. Align the connector pins on the ZigBee Pro module with the corresponding holes on the motherboard. Note: Ensure the pins are correctly aligned to prevent damage to the ZigBee Pro module.
  6. Gently press the ZigBee Pro module into the Room Controller's motherboard until it fits snugly. Note: Avoid applying excessive force to prevent damage to the ZigBee Pro module.
  7. Gently replace the Room Controller's motherboard back into the casing.
  8. Gently align the cover to the top of the base and snap it into place from the bottom. (Refer to Figure 3: A diagram depicting the process of closing the Room Controller unit by aligning the cover and snapping it onto the base.)
  9. Install the security screw.

Quick Setup: Pairing a ZigBee Sensor

This procedure is designed to help you pair a ZigBee sensor with your Room Controller. It assumes that the necessary back-end configuration for the Room Controller (acting as a coordinator) or the Multi-Purpose Manager (MPM) coordinator for the ZigBee network is already complete. It also assumes familiarity with the Permit Join function and the Wireless Ecosystem screen functions.

Procedure

  1. Set the Permit Join function on your Room Controller (or networked MPM coordinator, if used) to 'On'.
  2. Navigate to the first unused Zone screen within the Wireless Ecosystem section of the Room Controller's interface.
  3. Insert the battery or remove the pull tab (for contact sensors) to activate the ZigBee sensor.
  4. Verify that the sensor has successfully joined the network. On the Zone screen, the 'Paired' field status should read 'Yes'.
  5. Set the 'Set function' parameter to the correct configuration.
  6. Set the Permit Join function on your Room Controller (or networked MPM coordinator, if used) to 'Off'.
  7. For door or window contact sensors (conditional step):
    1. Navigate to the first screen in the Configuration section of the interface.
    2. For a window sensor, set the UI parameter to '16' and the value to 'Window'.
    3. For a door sensor, set the UI parameter to '17' and the value to 'Door Dry'.
  8. Physically install the sensor in its intended location.
