Attaching Feet and Spikes

For Carpeted Floors (Bronze 200 and 500 only)

The spikes and 'out-riggers' are supplied assembled for use on carpeted floors or where spikes are appropriate. Fix them to the speaker base using the supplied bolts (A & B).

Diagram Description: Shows speaker base with outrigger attached by bolts A (M10 x 1.25 x 16 mm) and B (M4 x 1.25 x 16 mm). A spirit level is depicted on the speaker cabinet to check for levelness.

To ensure the speaker is level, use a spirit level (not supplied). If off-level, unscrew the spike and re-check. Use the locking nuts on each foot to secure the spike and prevent vibrations.

[Warning] Please ensure there are no hidden wires under the carpet that could be damaged by the spikes.

For Wooden/ Hard Floors (Bronze 200 and 500 only)

Remove the spikes and replace with the supplied rubber feet. Fix the 'out-riggers' to the speaker base with the padded side touching the cabinet using the supplied bolts (A & B).

Diagram Description: Shows speaker base with rubber foot attached by bolts A (M10 x 1.25 x 16 mm) and B (M4 x 1.25 x 16 mm). A spirit level is depicted on the speaker cabinet to check for levelness.

Level the speaker using a spirit level. If off-level, unscrew the rubber foot and re-check. Use locking nuts to secure the feet and stop vibrations.

Setting Up Your Loudspeakers

2 Channel Positioning

For a 2-channel (stereo) system, the listening position and loudspeakers should form an equilateral triangle. Position speakers approximately 6-10 feet (1.8-3m) apart. Ideal rear wall distances vary by speaker model:

Maintain a minimum of 3 feet (91 cm) from side walls for optimal performance.

Note: These are recommended distances for optimal performance. Actual results depend on room size and construction.

Experiment with speaker placement for best results. If bass is insufficient, move speakers closer to the wall. For excess bass, move them further away. If stereo imaging is lost, try 'toeing' speakers in slightly so sound appears to originate from between them.

Diagram Description: Illustrates an equilateral triangle formed by the two speakers and the listening position. Arrows indicate recommended distances from the rear and side walls.

AV Positioning

Refer to the illustrations for ideal angles and positions in surround systems. Adjust speaker distance from walls based on 2-Channel Positioning guidelines. If experiencing bass boom, move speakers further from walls or use port bungs. With a subwoofer, adjust crossover frequencies or subwoofer position.

The Bronze C150 centre speaker should be positioned at approximate ear height of the main listening position. Adhesive feet are included with the Bronze C150 for protection and isolation.

Diagram Description: Shows speaker placement angles for surround sound systems. Side surrounds are depicted at angles between 90° and 110° from the front, and rear surrounds between 135° and 150°. The center speaker is shown at 0°.

Speaker Placement Types:

A 7.1 system uses both side (A) and rear (B) speakers. A 5.1 system can use position (A) or (B) for surrounds.

Setting Up Bronze FX

The Bronze FX features Di-Pole or Bi-Pole listening modes. In Bi-Pole mode, drivers and tweeters are in phase. In Di-Pole mode, one tweeter is out of phase, creating a diffused sound. Wall mount FX speakers approximately 2 feet above ear height.

Di-Pole/ Bi-Pole Switch

For 5.1 systems as rear speakers, set the switch to Bi-Pole. Experimentation with Di-Pole mode is also possible.

For 7.1 systems:

Note: Ensure the amplifier is switched off before adjusting any switches to protect the amplifier.

Diagram Description: Shows speaker terminals with 'Left' and 'Right' labels, indicating correct handedness for FX speakers.

Atmos

In-Ceiling

For overhead channels in an Atmos system, Monitor Audio recommends three-way in-ceiling speakers with a pivoting midrange/tweeter module for wider dispersion.

Diagram Description: Illustrates ideal positioning for 2 or 4 Atmos in-ceiling speakers, showing angles relative to the listening position (Ear Level).

Bronze AMS Dolby Atmos® Enabled Speakers

The Bronze AMS speakers offer a dedicated solution for in-ceiling Atmos installations. They can be positioned directly on top of front and/or rear speakers in a 2 or 4 Atmos setup. They can also be wall-mounted for use as surround or height speakers.

The speakers are compatible with Dolby Atmos technology, indicated by the Dolby Atmos logo.

Fixing Bronze FX & AMS to a Wall

CAUTION: Always determine the wall structure and ensure a secure fixing. If unsure, obtain services of a competent tradesperson.

CAUTION: Ensure no water pipes or electricity cables are behind the mounting location. Use secure steps and avoid trailing wires.

Note: Wall fixing screws and plugs are not supplied. Use suitable fixings for your wall construction type.

The Bronze FX and AMS feature keyhole inserts. Use the enclosed wall fixing template for installation.

Wiring

Single Wiring

Achieved via a single set of cables to the speaker terminals. The internal crossover directs frequencies to the appropriate drivers. Keep terminal links in place. Connections can be made to the top, bottom, or diagonally.

Diagram Description: Shows an integrated amplifier connected to a speaker via one set of speaker cables. Terminal links on the speaker are shown in place.

Note: When using single wiring, keep the terminal links in place.

Bi-Wiring

Uses separate pairs of speaker cables from a single amplifier connection pair to the speaker terminals. Bottom terminals connect to bass drivers; top terminals connect to tweeters (2-way) or mid/tweeters (2.5-way). Remove terminal links.

Diagram Description: Shows an integrated amplifier connected to a speaker using two sets of speaker cables, one to the top terminals and one to the bottom terminals. Terminal links on the speaker are shown removed.

Note: When using bi-wiring, the terminal links MUST be removed.

Bi-Amping

Similar to bi-wiring but uses a second amplifier. One amplifier connects to the top terminals (high frequencies), and the second amplifier connects to the bottom terminals (low frequencies). Remove terminal links.

Diagram Description: Shows two amplifiers connected to a speaker. The first amplifier connects to the top terminals, and the second amplifier connects to the bottom terminals. Terminal links on the speaker are shown removed.

Note: When using bi-amping, the terminal links MUST be removed.

The Effects of Bi-Wiring and Bi-Amping

A loudspeaker crossover varies the impedance seen by the speaker and amplifier. In full-range systems, the crossover directs low frequencies to bass drivers, mid frequencies to mid drivers, and high frequencies to tweeters.

Bi-wiring uses separate cables for low and high frequencies, allowing them to carry different signals due to impedance. This results in bass cables carrying mostly low frequencies and tweeter cables carrying mostly highs.

Bi-amping adds a second amplifier, dedicating one to low frequencies and the other to high frequencies. This can provide a 'cleaner' signal and minimize interference between bass and treble frequencies.

Monitor Audio recommends experimenting with both bi-wiring and bi-amping configurations to determine the best results for your system.

Port Bungs

WARNING: Care must be taken not to insert port bungs too far into the port, as this may result in the foam bung being lost inside the cabinet.

Port bungs can be beneficial in small rooms (approx. 9 sqM / 80 sqFT) or rooms with accentuated bass response. Experiment with speaker positioning before fitting bungs.

To optimize performance, avoid positioning speakers too close to walls or corners. If speakers are sited close to a rear wall (e.g., on a bookshelf or stand), fitting port bungs is recommended to reduce bass 'boom' or overhang. This helps the loudspeakers reproduce their best performance under such conditions.

'Boom' occurs when bass energy excites room modes. Fitting port bungs reduces bass energy/output around the port tuning frequency, which reduces boom while increasing bass clarity and agility. Overall bass extension is not reduced.

Experimentation is highly recommended in all circumstances.

Running-In Your Speakers

Run in your speakers by playing music at low-mid listening levels for approximately 50-70 hours. Performance may continue to improve even after this period.

This can happen naturally over time. Alternatively, you can run speakers continuously by placing them face-to-face with drivers/tweeters aligned and close together. Connect the amplifier with one speaker in-phase (positive to positive, negative to negative) and the other out-of-phase (positive to negative, negative to positive).

Retention Bolt Adjustment

The Bronze Series features a bolt-through driver fixing that reduces cabinet colouration. Each bolt acts as a rigid brace, decoupling the driver and front baffle to eliminate resonance.

Note: If a bolt becomes loose over time or during transit, use the supplied hex key to tighten it a quarter turn after strain has been taken by the bolt.

Warranty

The product's craftsmanship and performance are covered by the manufacturer's warranty against defects, provided it was supplied by an authorised Monitor Audio retailer under a consumer sale agreement. Refer to the product page on monitoraudio.com for the specific warranty period.

Keep your purchase receipt safe, as it validates your warranty.
