Recycled & Recyclable Materials

Nestera products are made from recycled industrial waste plastic where possible, promoting sustainability. This recycled plastic is tough, easy to work, resistant to UV light, atmospheric pollutants, and chewing, ensuring durability and longevity compared to timber. Metal components are stainless steel or rust-resistant alloys. Packaging and literature are also made from recycled materials.

Fitting Guides

How to Fit a Linch Pin (If Used)

To fit a Linch Pin, you only need to lift the ring slightly up from the bar. Linch Pins are designed to spring closed, so be careful with your fingers.

How to Fit and Remove a Pi Clip

To fit a Pi Clip, insert it at an angle. Once fitted, it is secure. To remove, pinch the clip together.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Step 1: Diagram shows two circular vent covers being attached to the patterned face of the Right Side Wall using an M6x30mm screw, a standard washer, a 25mm washer, and a nylock nut. Arrows indicate insertion points. Text: Fit two Vent Covers to the patterned face of the Right Side Wall each using an M6x30mm screw, a standard washer, 25mm washer and a 2 x nylock nut. Tighten the nuts until the vents can rotate using gentle pressure. They should not spin freely. The Left Side Wall has vent slots, to ensure the chickens have some fresh air at all times.
  2. Step 2: Diagram shows two retainer pieces (one large, one small, straight) being attached to the smooth (inside) side of the Front Wall with screws, washers, and nuts. Arrows indicate attachment points. Text: Fit the Small and Large Straight Door Retainer to the smooth (inside) side of the Front Wall using 3 x 40mm Screws, 3x Standard washers and 3 x nylock nuts.
  3. Step 3: Diagram shows two curved retainer pieces being attached to the smooth (inside) side of the Front Wall with screws, washers, and nuts. Arrows indicate attachment points. Text: Fit the Small and Large Curved Door Retainer to the smooth (inside) side of the Front Wall using 3x 30mm Screws, 3x Standard Washers, and 3 x Nylock Nuts. These pieces form a recess into which the door fits when closed.
  4. Step 4: Diagram shows a small clevis pin being inserted into the Metal Door from behind, secured with a washer and split ring. An arrow shows the pin insertion, and another shows the split ring. Text: Fit the Small Clevis Pin into the hole in the Metal Door from behind, and secure it using a washer and split ring. This can be a little awkward. We find that holding the split ring open by inserting a flat-bladed screwdriver between the rings can make this task easier. But please mind your fingers!
  5. Step 5: Diagram shows the Metal Door being attached to a panel with a screw, washers, and a nylock nut. Arrows indicate the screw and nut. Text: Place the Metal Door in position, and secure it with a 20mm screw, 2x Standard Washers, a 25mm Washer and 1 x Nylock Nut. Tighten the Nylock Nut until the door can just rotate freely.
  6. Step 6: Diagram shows a nest box side wall panel being attached to the base panel using Pi Clips. Arrows indicate the attachment points. Text: Fit the nest box Side Wall to the Base using 3 x Pi Clips. Ensure that the Double-hole lugs are at the front. Note: The base is to be fitted smooth side up.
  7. Step 7: Diagram shows a side wall (with vent covers) being connected to the base and another side wall. A roof support piece is then attached to the top center slots using Pi Clips. Arrows indicate attachment points. Text: Fit the Side wall (with Vent covers) to the base and side wall and attach the Roof Support to the top center slot with another slot above it using 5 x Pi clips.
  8. Step 8: Diagram shows the front wall panel being attached to the end of the assembly, aligning double-hole lugs with Pi Clips. The patterned face is outward. Text: Fit the Front Wall (patterned face outermost) to the end with the double-hole lugs using Pi Clips.
  9. Step 9: Diagram shows the upper back wall being attached to the top lugs of the main structure using Pi Clips. Text: Fit the Upper Back Wall to the top two lugs using 2 x Pi Clips. This is the same for large, medium and small.
  10. Step 10: Diagram shows the back door handle being attached to the textured side of the back door using Pi Clips. An arrow indicates the hook on top of the handle. Text: Fit the Back Door Handle to the textured side of the back door using 2x Pi Clips. Hook on top of handle denotes the top.
  11. Step 11: Diagram shows the back door being fitted: bottom rests in base slots, then pushed onto lugs, handles slid down, and secured with Linch Pins. Text: Fit the Back Door using 2x Linch Pins. (When fitting, first rest the bottom of the Back Door in the slots in the Base, then push the door onto the lugs, and slide the Back Door Handles downwards. Secure it with Linch Pins. You only need to lift the ring slightly up from the bar. Linch Pins are designed to spring closed, so watch your fingers!
  12. Step 12: Diagram shows perches sliding through side walls and secured with Linch Pins. Arrows indicate sliding and securing. Text: Slide the Perches through the Left and Right Side Walls and secure with a Linch Pins at both ends.
  13. Step 13: Diagram shows nest box end walls and divider fitted to the nest box floor, followed by the nest box front wall, all using Pi Clips. Text: Fit the Nest box End Walls and Nest Box Divider to the Nest Box Floor, then add the Nest Box Front Wall, all using 12 x Pi Clips
  14. Step 14: Diagram shows the assembled nest box unit being attached to the main house. L-lugs insert into lower holes on the Right Side Wall, then upper lugs are pushed through and secured from inside with Linch Pins. Text: Fit the nest box to the house by first inserting the L-lugs into the lower holes on the Right Side Wall, then tilting the nest box to push the three upper lugs through their holes, before securing them inside the main house with 3x Linch Pins
  15. Step 15: Diagram shows nest box front and side braces attached to the nest box lid (patterned side up) using Pi Clips. Text: Fit the Nest box Front Brace and the two Nest box Side Braces to the Nest box Lid, which should have its patterned side upwards, using 7 x Pi Clips
  16. Step 16: Diagram shows the nest box lid sliding upwards to engage cutouts with recesses, then secured with Linch Pins. Text: The Nest Box Lid simply slides upwards so that the cutouts fit into the recesses in the vertical panels. It is secured with 2x Linch Pins
  17. Step 17: Diagram shows side roof retainers attached to each side wall using Pi Clips. Text: Fit two Side Roof Retainers, one on each side wall, using 1 x Pi Clip for each one.
  18. Step 18: Diagram shows end roof retainers attached to the front wall and upper back wall using Pi Clips. Text: Fit End Roof Retainers to the Front Wall and Upper Back Wall using 1 x Pi Clips for each one.
  19. Step 19: Diagram shows the roof panel being fitted using Linch Pins, starting with the center. Text: Fit the Roof using Linch Pins (Fix the center first, then bend it over the remaining lugs.
  20. Step 20: Diagram shows a cord tied to a split ring on the front door and to a door handle hole, passing through a handle slot. It illustrates adjusting cord length for manual door operation. Text: MANUAL DOOR ONLY: Tie one end of the Cord to the Split Ring in the Front Door and the other to the small hole in the Door Handle. The Cord should pass through the handle slot. Adjust the length of the cord so that, when the door is fully raised, the handle just hooks onto the edge of the opposite handhold or the roof edge
  21. Step 21: Diagram shows the ramp attached to front lugs using Clevis Pins and R-Clips, tilting to the ground. Text: Fit the Ramp on top of the two lugs (front face) using 2 x 25mm Clevis Pins and 2 x R-Clips. It will tilt to the ground under its own weight.

Completed Medium House

The assembly of the Nestera Chicken House Medium is now complete.

Instructions for Use

The Chicken house should be sited in a sheltered area with the front facing away from prevailing winds. Vents should be adjusted to provide good ventilation.

The rear door can be used for inspection and regular cleaning. For thorough cleaning and replacing of bedding, the entire roof can be removed.

This Chicken house is designed to be moved by two people, using the handholds cut into the roof.

We recommend thorough cleaning at least every 3 months. A pressure washer is ideal for removal of caked-on dirt, but an ordinary hosepipe and scrubbing brush will do. The plastic is quite easy to clean. Finish by applying Poultry Shield (or similar) and leave to dry.

For protection against red mite, we recommend sprinkling a little diatomaceous earth (Diatom powder) around the house, particularly the joints, each time bedding is refreshed.

Accessories for your chicken coop

Chicken guard automatic door opener: This accessory attaches to the front of your chicken coop, allowing you to set a time for opening and closing the door automatically.

Droppings trays: If using shavings as bedding material, droppings trays can be used to contain the shavings, keeping them dryer and simplifying cleaning by allowing easy removal and tipping onto a compost heap.
