Moiswell Defender XP235 Dehumidifier Operation and Maintenance Manual

Moiswell Defender XP235 Dehumidifier Manual

This document provides comprehensive instructions for operating and maintaining the Moiswell Defender XP235 dehumidifier.

Before First Use

Please leave the dehumidifier standing upright and outside the box for 24 HOURS before plugging it in. This allows the oil in the compressor to settle, which is crucial for performance and lifespan, especially if the unit was tilted during shipping.

Parts Identification

The dehumidifier consists of the following parts:

  • Air Outlet: Where the dried air is expelled.
  • Gravity Drain Outlet: For drainage by gravity.
  • Pump drain outlet: For drainage using the internal pump.
  • Power Cord Port: Connection point for the power cord.
  • Remote Control Port: For connecting an optional remote control.
  • Handle: For carrying the unit.
  • Control Panel: Interface for operating the dehumidifier.
  • Access door: Provides access to internal components.
  • Hand Screw: Used for securing the air inlet grill.
  • Air Inlet: Where air is drawn into the unit.
  • Adjustable Foot: For leveling the dehumidifier.

Note: Do not obstruct the air inlet and outlet.

Operation Instructions

1. Positioning Your Dehumidifier

Install the dehumidifier horizontally to minimize vibration and noise. Adjust the feet to level the unit.

To adjust the feet:

  • Turn the nut clockwise to loosen it.
  • Turn the foot clockwise to lower it, or counter-clockwise to raise it.
  • Turn the nut counter-clockwise to fix the foot.

Note: For best results, operate in an enclosed area. Close all doors and windows to maximize water removal efficiency. Place the dehumidifier away from obstructions that could block airflow.

2. Positioning Your Dehumidifier (Optimal Placement)

For optimal outcomes, use your dehumidifier in a confined space. Shut all entryways and windows. Position it clear of obstructions and avoid anything that could obstruct airflow in or out of the dehumidifier. Place the dehumidifier on a flat surface to minimize vibration or noise.

3. Set Up the Drainage

(1) Drain by Internal Pump

The dehumidifier has an internal pump for draining condensation water. When using the pump feature:

  • Seal the Gravity Drain Outlet with the included stopper.
  • Connect the drain hose to the Pump Drain Outlet.
  • Place the unattached end of the hose in a sink, bucket, pump sump, or out of a window where water can drain safely. Ensure there are no kinks or obstructions.

Notes:

  • Check buckets regularly to prevent overflows.
  • The pump can drain vertically up to 16ft. Longer hoses may cause water backup.
  • Long hoses can lead to stagnant water and mildew.
  • Before moving, remove the stopper from the Gravity Drain Outlet to drain the internal water tray and prevent leakage.

(2) Drain by Gravity

When using gravity to drain:

  • Connect the drain hose to the Gravity Drain Outlet.
  • Place the unattached end of the hose to a suitable drainage facility that is lower than the drain outlet. Ensure no kinks or obstructions.

4. Plug in Electrical Cord

IMPORTANT: Please let the dehumidifier sit outside the box for 24 HOURS before initial plugging in.

Plug the dehumidifier into a GFCI-protected 115-volt outlet with a rating of at least 16 amps. Uncoil the power cord and connect it securely. Upon initial power-up, the control panel display will light up briefly as part of a self-diagnosis. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on. The display may dim after 50 seconds of inactivity.

5. Understand the Control Panel

The control panel features 4 buttons and an LED screen. Press the POWER Button to turn the unit on.

LED Display Readouts:

  • Humidity: Displays current room humidity percentage. When setting target humidity, this displays the previous setting and blinks.
  • Temp: Displays the current room temperature.

Icons:

  • Timer Icon (Hr): Illuminates when the timer function is enabled.
  • Fan Icon: Illuminates when the fan is running.
  • Water Droplet Icon: Illuminates when the compressor is running.

Note: It is normal for the Water Droplet Icon to disappear if the compressor stops or does not kick in. This can occur if the humidity set-point is not at least 5% lower than the room humidity, if the room humidity has reached the set-point, if the compressor is in a delay status after startup, or after a brief restart.

6. General Operation Instructions

(1) Turn on the dehumidifier

Press the Power Button.

(2) Set a desired humidity percentage

Read the current room humidity. Adjust the humidity set-point using the Up/Down buttons in 1% increments. The set humidity must be at least 5% lower than the current room humidity. A setting between 40% and 60% is recommended for optimal comfort. The setting registers automatically after 5 seconds. The dehumidifier will maintain humidity within ±3% of the set point.

(3) Turn the dehumidifier off

Press the Power Button. The fan will continue to operate for 30 seconds to protect the compressor. Do not disconnect the power cord to turn off the unit.

7. Timer Setting

Set auto-on or auto-off timers from 1 to 24 hours.

  • Set AUTO-ON: When the dehumidifier is off, press the Timer button to set a desired start time.
  • Set AUTO-OFF: When the dehumidifier is on, press the Timer button to set a desired shut-off time.

To set the TIMER:

  1. Press the Timer Button; the Timer icon and value will flash.
  2. Press the Timer button repeatedly to change the delay timer in 1-hour increments, up to 24 hours.
  3. Wait about 5 seconds for the setting to register automatically.
  4. The digital readout counts down the remaining time.
  5. To disable the timer, manually turn the unit on/off or set the timer to [00].

Notes:

  • Ensure power is supplied for AUTO ON timer settings.
  • For AUTO ON, turn the dehumidifier on to select a desired humidity level; otherwise, it uses the previous setting.
  • You can set AUTO ON or AUTO OFF, but not both simultaneously.
  • The AUTO ON/OFF function does not cycle.
  • Manually powering the unit on/off disables the timer function.
  • Setting the timer to [00] deactivates the timer function.

8. Smart Functions

(1) 3 Minutes Compressor Protection Mechanism

Prevents immediate compressor start after a cycle to avoid damage. The compressor starts after a 3-minute delay. The Fan icon illuminates, followed by the Water Droplet icon when the compressor kicks in.

(2) Auto Defrost

When frost builds up on evaporator coils, the compressor cycles off, and the fan runs until frost disappears. The DEFROST icon illuminates.

(3) Auto-Restart

If the dehumidifier shuts off unexpectedly due to a power outage, it will restart with the previous settings when power resumes.

Maintenance

Safety Warning: To avoid electric shock, turn the dehumidifier off and disconnect the plug from the power source before performing any cleaning or maintenance.

1. Cleaning the Dehumidifier

Clean the dehumidifier housing with a soft damp cloth. Do not submerge or place water on the unit or control panel. Avoid chemical solvents like benzene, alcohol, or gasoline, as they can damage the unit.

2. Cleaning the Air Filter

A blocked air filter significantly reduces performance. Clean the filter approximately every 2 weeks, or more often if there is significant dander or fur in the air. The filter is located behind the inlet grill.

Steps to clean the filter:

  1. Unscrew the hand screw on the top of the inlet grill.
  2. Open the inlet grill and take out the filter.
  3. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove large debris or dust.
  4. Wash the filter in lukewarm, soapy water (below 40°C / 104°F) or use a neutral cleaning agent.
  5. Rinse the filter with clean water and dry thoroughly.
  6. Re-install the filter.

Note: Do not operate the dehumidifier without a filter, as dirt and lint can clog it and reduce performance.
