Wireless CarPlay Adapter: Setup, Usage, and Troubleshooting
Important Instructions & Compatibility
This wireless CarPlay adapter is designed exclusively for iPhones and cars equipped with wired Apple CarPlay. Ensure your iPhone is model 6 or later with iOS 10 or higher. Avoid using if your car has certain wireless customizations that may cause screen issues. Disconnect any existing phone Bluetooth/Wi-Fi before connecting to the adapter's "smartBox-xxxx" network.
Compatibility Check:
- Connect your iPhone to the car's primary USB port. A prompt for permission should appear if CarPlay is supported.
- Look for a CarPlay icon in your car stereo's menu.
- Consult your car dealer if unsure about CarPlay capabilities.
LED Light Description
- Cyan: Power on indicator.
- Green: Flashing indicates connection in progress; solid indicates successful connection.
Setup Steps
- Ensure your phone's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on and not connected to other networks/devices.
- Plug the adapter into the designated CarPlay USB port (refer to your car's manual for the correct port).
- The adapter's indicator light will illuminate, and the car display will show a pairing-ready interface.
- On your phone, go to Bluetooth settings and pair with "smartBox-xxxx".
- After Bluetooth pairing, your phone's Wi-Fi will automatically connect to "smartBox-xxxx". Do not manually connect to other Wi-Fi networks.
- A successful connection is indicated by the car display showing the CarPlay interface.
- The adapter will automatically reconnect to the last paired device on subsequent uses (ensure phone Wi-Fi/Bluetooth are enabled). Some cars may require manually tapping the CarPlay icon.
How to Use
The wireless CarPlay adapter uses Bluetooth for initial connection setup and then Wi-Fi for functionality. After successful Bluetooth pairing, the phone's Wi-Fi connects to the adapter, and Bluetooth may disconnect. Avoid switching Wi-Fi or turning it off during use.
To Ensure Smooth Operation:
- Prioritize the "smartBox-xxxx" Wi-Fi connection. Manually disconnect other Wi-Fi networks if interference occurs.
- If your phone is connected to other Bluetooth devices (e.g., car's built-in Bluetooth), it may affect CarPlay audio input/output. Disconnect from other Bluetooth devices or turn off Bluetooth if issues arise.
- For auto-reconnect, keep phone Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. Set "smartBox-xxxx" Wi-Fi to "Auto-Join" in phone settings (Settings > WLAN > "smartBox-xxxx" > Auto Join). Some cars may require enabling "automatic connection" in CarPlay settings.

Online Firmware Upgrade
Premise: Only update firmware if the adapter is not functioning correctly and existing solutions are insufficient. Updates may cause issues; consider factory reset or reverting if problems occur.
Update Steps:
- Power on the adapter.
- Connect to the adapter's Wi-Fi network using the password "88888888".
- Open Safari, navigate to "192.168.1.101", select the latest version from the dropdown, and click "Update". Ensure your phone's cellular data is enabled as the adapter's Wi-Fi does not provide internet access.
- Restart your phone after the upgrade.
FAQ
- Wi-Fi Password: Bluetooth connection is primary; Wi-Fi connects automatically without a password. The password is for firmware upgrades only.
- Adapter Light On After Car Off: Some cars maintain power. Unplug the adapter if concerned about battery drain.
- Cannot Find "smartBox-xxxx" Signal: Check phone Wi-Fi/Bluetooth or adapter functionality. Try resetting iPhone network settings. If the issue persists across devices, the adapter may be defective.
- Audio Input/Output Issues: Ensure phone Bluetooth is not connected to multiple devices. Clear background apps. Verify "Audio" output is set to CarPlay during calls.
- Persistent Disconnection: Likely Wi-Fi interference. Disconnect other Wi-Fi devices or networks. Resetting mobile WLAN network or updating firmware may help.
- Multiple Phone Pairing Issues: The adapter connects to one phone at a time. Disconnect Wi-Fi and Bluetooth from the current iPhone before pairing a new one.
- Unable to Automatically Reconnect: Check phone settings for "Auto-Join" on the adapter's Wi-Fi and ensure "Ask to Join Networks" is set to "Notify". Ensure phone Bluetooth/Wi-Fi are on and not occupied. Clear pairing records and re-pair. Firmware upgrade may also resolve this.
- Video Audio Synchronization: Audio delay is normal for wireless CarPlay due to video transcoding complexity. The dual-module design minimizes delays.
- Black Screen/No CarPlay Response: Ensure Wi-Fi connects automatically after Bluetooth pairing. If not, unplug, ignore "smartBox-xxxx" in Bluetooth, restart phone, and re-pair. Ensure phone Wi-Fi/Bluetooth are active and not connected to other devices. Firmware update and resetting the adapter may be necessary.
- Audio Lag/Quality Issues (Excluding Video): Modify "Audio stream mode" on the upgrade page.
- Pairing Fails/Incompatible Device: Modify "Start-up delay" setting on the upgrade page.
