BIOS Setup
BIOS (Basic Input and Output System) records system hardware parameters in the motherboard's CMOS. It identifies, configures, tests, and connects computer hardware to the OS upon startup. Key functions include Power-On Self-Test (POST), saving system parameters, and loading the operating system. The BIOS Setup program allows modification of system configuration settings.
When the computer is off, the motherboard battery powers the CMOS to retain configuration values.
Important Note on BIOS Flashing: Flashing the BIOS carries risks. It is recommended not to flash the BIOS unless encountering issues with the current version. If flashing, proceed with caution, as inadequate flashing can lead to system malfunction.
Default Settings: The default BIOS settings offer optimal performance and stability. Altering them is not recommended unless necessary, as it may cause system instability or prevent booting.
BIOS Updates: BIOS items are updated for performance improvements. Descriptions are for reference only, as items may differ slightly from the latest BIOS version.
Enter BIOS Setup
To enter BIOS setup:
- When the computer starts up, wait for the self-test process to complete.
- A message will appear: "Press DEL key to enter Setup Menu." Press the Delete key.
- If the message disappears quickly, restart the computer by turning it off and on, pressing the Reset button, or using Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
- It is recommended to repeatedly press the Delete key immediately after starting the computer to ensure entry into BIOS mode.
The screen displays the "Aptio Setup Utility" with options like Main, Advanced, IntelRCSetup, Security, Boot, and Save & Exit. It shows BIOS Information (Vendor, Version, etc.), Memory Information, System Language, Date, and Time.
Important Note: Functions may vary depending on the specific product.
Reset BIOS
To restore default BIOS settings:
- Navigate to BIOS setup and press F6 to load optimized defaults.
- Alternatively, short the Clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard.
Important Note: Ensure the computer is turned off before clearing CMOS data. Refer to the Clear CMOS jumper section for details.
