Would the X7 be bricked if update fails? What to do if the X7 is bricked?
Ensure the X7 is well-charged before updating. The X7 should not brick even if an update fails. If it does, contact FiiO support at support@fiio.net.
4. Storage
Does the X7 contain internal storage? Is removable storage supported?
The X7 has 64GB of internal storage and supports two micro SD cards, each up to 256GB (total 512GB).
Is the X7 picky about cards?
The X7 supports all major SD card brands. For high-bitrate files (e.g., 384kHz/24bit APEs, DSD128) without dropouts, cards of Class 10 or above are recommended.
5. Playing music
Why can my APE files not be played by the X7?
APE files have 5 compression rates: Fast, Normal, High, Extra High, and Insane. The X7 supports Fast, Normal, and High compression APEs up to 384kHz/24bit, and Extra High and Insane APEs up to 192kHz/24bit. Check the track's compression rate.
Does the X7 support CUE sheets?
Yes, external CUE sheets are supported for identifying and playing CUE'd music files as separate tracks. Embedded CUE sheets are not supported. Ensure the .cue file is named the same as the music file it cues.
Why does X7 not show the cue file in the micro SD card when browsing files?
The X7 may have already split the CUE'd file into multiple tracks, which are then displayed.
How to listen to all the music folders on the X7 one by one without switching Folders/Artist/Album/Genre manually?
In FiiO Music, go to "Settings" -> "Play through folders" and enable it. This will automatically skip from the last song in one folder/artist/album/genre to the first song in the next.
Why do the songs I've copied into the X7 not appear in any listing (except Folder view) in FiiO Music?
Go to FiiO Music Settings -> "Scan for songs" to index your music.
6. Connecting with other audio equipment
How to connect the X7 Line Out to other equipment? What to connect it to?
Ensure the Multifunctional Output is set to Line Out. Connect the LINE/COAX/OPT OUT port on top of the X7 to the line-in/aux-in port of your equipment using an appropriate cable. The Line Out is a high-level output suitable for headphone amplifiers, AV receivers, loudspeaker preamps, and powered speakers. The default output level is high (2V) and can damage headphones. Headphones are not designed for line output and will perform poorly.
Could X7 be used with FiiO's docking station?
Yes, the X7 can be used with FiiO's docking station DK1 and desktop amplifier K5 via Micro USB connection.
The X7 does not get detected by my computer for file transfers?
Connect the X7 via USB. Pull down the settings menu and ensure the USB connection is set to "storage" (not "DAC"). Then reconnect. You may be prompted to "Turn on USB storage". This prompt can also be accessed by pulling down the notification panel and tapping "USB connected".
How to connect the X7's Coaxial/Optical digital output to other equipment? What to connect it to?
Ensure Multifunctional Output is set to Coaxial or Optical digital out. Connect the LINE/COAX/OPT OUT port to the provided S/PDIF adapter cable, then connect the cable to your equipment's Coaxial or Optical input using an appropriate RCA coaxial or Optical cable.
Different manufacturers may have different pin-out definitions for coaxial plugs. Use the supplied cable to avoid incompatibility issues.
Why does my HT receiver never play the first ten seconds of music from my X7?
If the HT receiver is not explicitly set to receive audio from the coaxial port, it may take about ten seconds to detect audio and switch from HDMI. Set your HT receiver's audio input to Coaxial.
7. Other operations
How to get longer battery life for the X7?
- Set the display to sleep after inactivity (System Settings -> Display -> Sleep). Lock the screen before pocketing the X7 to prevent accidental touches.
- Lower backlight brightness and turn off the pulsar light.
- Configure Idle poweroff in System Settings -> Powertimer to automatically power off the X7 after a set period of inactivity.
Why is the X7 a bit sluggish in responding at times?
High-bitrate tracks (e.g., 384k/24bit APEs or DSD files) require more processing power, potentially causing UI slowdowns. Consider converting APEs to FLACs or WAVs. Large numbers of songs on the micro SD card, non-music files (photos, videos), or playing high-bitrate files from slow SD cards can also cause delays or stuttering. Class 10 or above SD cards are recommended. Disordered files (e.g., mixed APE albums and CUE files in one folder) can slow loading; organize files by artist, then album. Storing different formats in separate folders can also improve performance.
Why does the X7 get a little hot in operation?
The X7 uses a high-clock-speed SoC, separate DAC, and a high-power headphone amplifier, dissipating more power than typical DAPs. This power dissipation generates heat, causing the unit to warm up slightly, which is normal and not a safety concern.
Why can't I go to the homescreen by pressing the home button?
Check the current operation mode. If in Pure Music mode, pull down the settings menu and tap the mode icon to switch to Android mode. You can then access the Android homescreen. Pulling down from the upper right of the screen twice enables the Quick Settings menu and shows the current system mode.
Why can't I see the Quick settings menu when I pull down from the top of the touchscreen?
There are two levels of pull-down menus. The first shows the notification panel; the second shows the Quick Settings menu.
Does the X7 support 256GB micro SD cards?
Yes.
Does the X7 coaxial digital output support DoP? At what rate?
Yes, DoP output is supported up to 2.8MHz/1bit (DSD64).
Why can my X7 not receive OTA updates / why is the OTA update so slow?
Update download speed can be affected by network constraints (FiiO server, intermediary network, ISP, WiFi router) or poor WiFi reception. You can press the Home button to dismiss the progress bar and continue using the X7 normally while the update downloads. The download will continue even if the X7 is turned off and on.
Why sometimes it shows "0 new songs added to media library" after updating?
The X7 uses an incremental update method. If songs were already added to the library, they won't be added again, resulting in "0 new songs added". This is not an update failure; it allows the "Newly added" function to work and saves scanning time.
