Display Guide
The e-bike display provides various functions to enhance your riding experience:
- Function Overview: Battery level indicator, motor power indicator, assist level adjustment and indication, speed indicator (real-time, max, average), distance indicator (trip, ODO), push assistance control, headlight control, error code indicator, USB connection indicator (reserved), heart rate indicator (reserved), Bluetooth connection indicator (reserved), custom parameter settings (wheel diameter, speed limit, battery level, assist level, power-on password, controller current limit), and reset function.
- Button Functions:
- [Power]: Power on/off.
- [+]: Parameter adjustment, Menu operation.
- [-]: Parameter adjustment, Pedestrian mode on/off, Menu operation.
- [Light]: Light on/off, Parameters confirm.
- [i]: Parameters confirm, Long press to change mode.
- Riding Interface: Displays battery indicator, light indicator, speed, speed unit, real-time motor power, assist level (ECO, NORMAL, SPORT), and multifunctional display area showing total distance, trip distance, power, average speed, max speed, and trip time.
- Mode Switch: Press and hold the [i] key for 1 second to switch between ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT modes.
- Mode Operation: The switch to SPORT mode requires a speed above 15km/h. SPORT mode has a maximum maintenance time of 3 minutes. After completion, it automatically switches to NORMAL mode and can be reactivated after 10 minutes.
- Error Codes: Common error codes are listed, including issues like current/motor errors, throttle errors, motor phase errors, brake errors, and communication errors.

- System Info: View HMI version information.
Your First Ride
Important Note: Be very careful when riding your e-bike for the first time, as it moves faster than a regular bicycle in assisted mode. Start in an open area. It is recommended to begin with pedal assist off to familiarize yourself with braking and gear shifting. Gradually test pedal assist levels to find optimal settings.
Safety Checks Before Every Ride:
- Ensure the battery pack is charged and installed correctly.
- Verify the display is on and functioning.
- Check that the brakes are working properly.
- Confirm tires are inflated to the correct pressure.
- Ensure front and rear lights are working.
- Check that all cable connections are secure.
Operating Your New e-Bike:
- To turn on the bike, press the power button on the left handlebar until the display lights up.
- Ride the bike and twist the throttle or pedal. The bike will move, and you can change the power level using the control buttons (Level 1 is the slowest, Level 5 is the fastest, Level 0 is human model).
Other Functions:
- Hand Throttle Control: The amount of power assist is determined by the throttle switch. Twist it from its resting position; the further it twists, the more power is delivered. Release the throttle to slow down and apply brakes if necessary. You do not need to pedal when using the hand throttle, but pedaling can help conserve energy and extend battery life.
Security and Warnings
Before Riding the e-BIKE:
- Perform a mechanical inspection: ensure hardware is secured, tires are inflated, brakes are working, the handle is adjusted, and front wheels are secure.
When Riding the e-Bike:
- Obey all road rules and local traffic laws.
- Respect motorists, pedestrians, and other cyclists.
- Ride cautiously and maintain a safe distance from other cyclists and vehicles.
- Ride on bike lanes and trails.
- Obey traffic signals and signs.
- Use appropriate turning and parking gestures.
- Do not wear headphones.
- Do not carry adult passengers.
- Do not carry items that obstruct your view or control.
Avoid riding in the following situations:
- Poor visibility (dawn, dusk, dark).
- Bad weather.
- Extreme rider fatigue.
- When e-bike maintenance is required.
Off-road Riding:
- Obey local off-road riding laws.
- Practice on easier terrain to build skills.
- Always wear proper safety gear.
- Ride with a companion in the backcountry.
Riding in the Rain:
- Avoid riding in wet weather if possible.
- Reduce speed in wet conditions.
- Wet weather affects visibility, braking, and traction.
- Accidents increase in wet weather conditions.
Riding at Night:
- Riding at night is more dangerous than during the day.
- Wear reflective clothing.
- Obey local laws regarding night riding.
- Reflectors are not a substitute for lights; they help you be seen by cars and street lights. Ensure reflectors are in good condition and do not remove them.
- Always use adequate lighting systems. Failure to do so can result in serious injury. Consider aftermarket lighting systems if necessary.
Extreme and Aggressive Riding:
- Electric bike designs have limitations. Extreme, stunt, and competition riding may exceed these limits and is not recommended by the manufacturer, as it increases the risk of serious injury or death.
Battery and Maintenance
Charging Your e-Bike Battery:
- Open the charging port cover and fold the bicycle.
- Insert the key into the battery and turn it clockwise until it locks (the lock lever retracts into the battery).
- Slide the battery off carefully, as it is heavy.
Battery Charging Information:
- The battery can be charged while installed on the e-bike or after removal.
- Turn off the battery before charging.
- Charging takes approximately 6 hours for a fully discharged battery. The charger LED turns from red to green when fully charged; disconnect the charger then.
- Do not leave the charger connected for extended periods after charging is complete.
- It is normal for the charger and battery to heat up slightly during charging. If unusual activity occurs, stop charging and contact Engwe Bikes Product Support.
Tips for Increasing Range:
- Ride at lower PAS levels.
- Use lower PAS levels and pedal when climbing hills.
- Pedal when starting from a standstill.
Battery Recycling:
- Dispose of used batteries according to state and federal regulations. Lithium-ion batteries cannot be placed in standard trash cans.
