ENGWE L20 Electric Bike User Manual

CAUTION: READ THIS MANUAL BEFORE USING YOUR EQUIPMENT

1. Important Warning ⚠️

This manual contains important safety performance information and service information. Please ensure you have read the following warning content before using your product for the first time.

If you lend your electric bicycle to others, please let the user read this manual to help decrease the risk of accidents.

Please wear a suitable and safe helmet before riding. Wear clothes with fluorescent and reflective stripes when riding at night. Do not exceed the speed limit, as this is a main reason for traffic accidents. Always abide by traffic rules and do not exceed the speed limit.

Do not touch the charging hole on the bike, or use metal to touch it, as this could cause an accident due to a transient short circuit of the current.

Starting from zero, frequent braking, driving against the wind, carrying passengers or heavy items, and insufficient tire pressure all consume significant electric energy and reduce the endurance mileage. For optimal endurance mileage, please follow these guidelines:

Your e-bike should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or rain. Avoid storage in places with high temperatures or corrosive gases to prevent damage to electroplating parts and paint surfaces from chemical corrosion and electrical component damage, which could lead to operational failure and accidents.

Your current insurance may not cover situations encountered while riding an electric bike. Please contact your insurance company or broker for relevant consultation.

When using your e-bike in your country, please refer to local laws and regulations. For example, in China, riders must be at least 16 years old.

Bicycles are vehicles with inherent risk factors. Please be sure to abide by traffic rules. In case of emergency braking, brake the rear wheel first, then the front wheel. If cycling speed is too fast, there is a danger of tipping over if you brake the front wheel suddenly. Please ride carefully.

5.4.2 Functional Area Layout

[Diagram: Illustration of the display interface layout. Key areas include: Battery level indicator, Speed indicator, Bluetooth indicator, Headlight indicator, Assist level indicator, Maximum speed display, Trip distance indicator (TRIP, ODO), and the central display showing speed (km/h or MPH), PAS level, and AVG/TRIP/ODO values.]

5.5 Button Definitions

There are three buttons on the display unit YL81C:

5.6 General Operation

5.6.1 Power On/Off

By pressing and holding the ? button, the display will turn on, and the controller's power supply will be activated. In the power-on state, pressing and holding the ? button will power off your e-bike. In the power-off state, the display will not consume battery power, with leakage current less than 1uA. If your e-bike is not used for more than 10 minutes, the display will automatically power off.

5.6.2 Display Interface

After the display is turned on, it shows the real-time speed (km/h) and trip distance (km) by default. Pressing the ? button cycles through trip distance (km), ODO (km), maximum speed (km/h), and average speed (km/h). When the distance reaches 9999.9 km, it automatically resets to zero.

5.6.3 Push Assistance

By pressing and holding the button, the electric push assistance mode will be enabled. Your e-bike will run at a constant speed of 6 km/h. The display will show level "P". Releasing the button will immediately stop power output and return to the state before push assistance. This function can only be used when pushing your e-bike; do not use it while riding.

5.6.4 Headlight On/Off

By pressing and holding the button, the controller will turn on the headlights and dim the display backlight. Pressing and holding the button again will turn off the headlights, and the display backlight will return to its normal brightness.

5.6.5 Assist Level Selection

By pressing the / buttons, the e-bike's assist level will be switched to change motor output power. Available assist levels are 1-5.

5.6.6 Battery Level Indicator

The battery level indicator has five segments. When fully charged, all five segments are lit. In case of low voltage, the outline of the battery indicator will flash, indicating the battery needs immediate charging.

5.7 Error Code Indicator

When a fault occurs in the electronic control system, the display will show an error code in the distance area in the format of E0**. Detailed definitions are in Schedule 1.

[Diagram: Display showing "E002".]

If an error code appears, please conduct troubleshooting promptly. Otherwise, your e-bike may not function correctly.

5.8.1 Trip Distance Reset

Press and hold the ? and buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds to reset the trip distance.

5.8.2 Factory Reset

6. Battery

How far a fully charged battery can go depends on loading weight, road condition, and battery capacity. However, under the same conditions, average speeds can be maintained for a longer travel range.

When storing the battery for an extended period (e.g., during winter), it is important to place the fully charged battery in a dry place.

Attention: The battery should be recharged once every 2-3 months when not in use.

WARNING:

Do not allow the battery to run down completely before charging. Charge the battery before storing the product. If the battery is completely empty, it may become unable to charge.

Charge a new battery for at least 4-6 hours before using it in your product for the first time. Never charge the battery for excessively long periods. Overheating or undercharging the battery may shorten its life and decrease product run time.

IMPORTANT: BATTERY DISPOSAL

7. Charging

You can charge the bike directly, or remove the battery for charging.

The RED light indicates charging, and the GREEN light indicates the battery is fully charged. (Please unplug from the wall when not charging). Usually, the charging time is 4-6 hours, depending on the remaining battery capacity.

WARNING:

If the product has problems during the protection period, ENGWE will provide customer service as part of the product quality guarantee.
