First Steps Quick Guide
Preface
This guide explains the basic operations of the machine. For more detailed information, please refer to the Operation Guide available on the Product Library disc.
Unpacking
The included components may differ depending on the country or region.
Initial Setup
C. Setting up the Toner Container
- Pull out the toner container drawer.
- Insert toner containers (Yellow, Cyan, Magenta, Black) into their respective slots.
- Close the toner container drawer.
- Close the front cover.
D. Connect Cable
Network: Connect the network cable to the printer's network port and your network device (e.g., router or switch). This typically uses a 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T connection.
USB: Connect the USB cable to the printer's USB port and your computer's USB port (USB 2.0).
E. Loading Paper
- Pull out the paper tray.
- Adjust the paper guides to match the size of the paper being loaded.
- Load paper into the tray, ensuring it is aligned and the edges are straight. Do not overfill the tray.
- Push the paper tray back into the printer.
- (Optional, based on diagram) Load paper from the rear feed slot if applicable.
F. Connect Power Cord
- Connect the power cord to the printer's power inlet.
- Plug the other end of the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
G. Replace Operation Panel Sheet
Lift the operation panel cover and replace the sheet underneath as needed.
H. Power On
Press the power button, typically located on the front of the printer, to turn the device on.
Basic Operations
I. Altitude Adjustment (1000m or higher Only)
To adjust settings for higher altitudes, navigate through the menu:
MENU ➔ Adjust/Maintenance ➔ Service ➔ Altitude Adj. ➔ Select 'Normal' or 'Normal?' and confirm.
J. Print Status Page
To print a status page, navigate through the menu:
MENU ➔ Report Print ➔ Select 'Print Status Page' or 'Print Status Page?' and confirm.
Installation
K. Install Drivers and Utilities
When the "Found New Hardware" window appears during installation, click "Cancel" to proceed with the wizard's instructions.
Install Wizard
Follow the instructions provided in the installation wizard. Common options include:
- Express Install: Adds the device and its default drivers.
- Custom Install: Allows adding multiple devices and printing utilities.
- Upgrade: Installs newer versions of drivers and utilities.
- Maintenance: Runs utility programs.
- Documents: Access manuals and readme files.
- Uninstall: Removes devices, drivers, and utilities.
L. Login
Access the device's administrative settings by entering the Admin ID and Password. Default credentials may vary by model and region. Examples include:

M. Cancel Printing
To cancel a print job, navigate the menu:
MENU ➔ Print Cancel ➔ Select the job (e.g., "0003:maury's data" or "0005:Print") ➔ Confirm cancellation and data deletion.
N. Private Printing
From a PC
To activate private printing from a PC, configure the specified items (numbered 1 and 2) on the computer's print settings screen.
Job Box
The Job Box feature allows you to store and retrieve print jobs. Navigate the menu to access and manage jobs:
MENU ➔ Job Box ➔ Select 'Private/Stored' ➔ Set User ID, Data ID, and the number of copies.
O. Troubleshooting
If an error occurs, an error message will appear on the screen, and the Attention indicator on the operation panel will light up or flash. Refer to the Operation Guide for details on clearing errors.
P. Clear Paper Jam
Follow these steps to clear paper jams:
A. Clearing Jam from Front
- Remove the toner container drawer.
- Carefully pull out the jammed paper from the front of the printer.
B. Clearing Jam from Rear
- Open the rear cover.
- Pull out the paper tray.
- Carefully remove the jammed paper from the rear path.
C. Clearing Jam from Toner Area and Rear
- Open the front cover.
- Remove the toner container drawer.
- Open the toner container cover.
- Carefully remove the jammed paper from the toner area.
- Open the rear cover.
- Carefully remove any jammed paper from the rear path.
D. Clearing Jam from Various Paths
- Open the front cover.
- Remove the paper tray.
- Open the output tray.
- Carefully remove jammed paper from the output path.
- Remove jammed paper from the internal feed path.
- Remove jammed paper from the fuser area (if accessible).
- Remove jammed paper from the rear output path.
- Open the duplex unit cover (if applicable) and remove any jammed paper.
