1. Safety Precautions

When Installing the Unit

Warning Precautions:

  • Do not expose the unit to rain or an environment where it may be splashed by water or other liquids, as doing so may result in fire or electric shock.
  • Use the unit only with the voltage specified on the unit. Using a voltage higher than that which is specified may result in fire or electric shock.
  • Avoid installing or mounting the unit in unstable locations, such as on a rickety table or slanted surface. Doing so may result in the unit falling down and causing personal injury and/or property damage.
  • To prevent lightning strikes, install the unit at least five meters away from the lightning rod, and yet within the protective range (angle of 45°) the lightning conductor. Lightning strikes may cause fire, electric shock or personal injury.

Caution Precautions:

  • Never plug in or remove the power supply plug with wet hands, as doing so may cause electric shock.
  • Avoid installing the unit in humid or dusty locations, in locations exposed to the direct sunlight, near heaters, or in locations generating sooty smoke or steam, as doing otherwise may result in fire or electric shock.
  • The socket outlet shall be installed near the equipment and the plug (disconnecting device) shall be easily accessible.

2. General Description

The MD-300-AS is a media player and digital processing FM radio tuner. The unit features a USB and SD card slot for MP3 playback and a Bluetooth function for receiving audio signals. The radio tuner can store up to 30 channels. The unit is designed for mounting on an EIA equipment rack.

3. Nomenclature and Functions

Front Panel

The front panel features the following controls and indicators:

  • [1. Power Switch]: Press to turn the unit on, press again to turn it off.
  • [2. SD Card Slot]: Displays "Card", Folder No., and Track Qty. when an SD card is inserted.
  • [3. USB Card Slot]: Displays "USB", Folder No., and Track Qty. when a USB drive is inserted.
  • [4. LCD Display]: Shows track number and condition for SD Card/USB/Bluetooth. In Tuner mode, displays the received radio frequency.
  • [5. IR]: Infrared receiver for the remote controller signal.
  • [6. MODE Button]: Cycles through modes: USB, SD, BT, TUNER.
  • [7. USB/SD/BT Button]: Selects USB, SD Card, or Bluetooth mode.
  • [8. < FOLDER Button]: Skips to the previous folder (USB/SD card).
  • [9. FOLDER > Button]: Skips to the next folder (USB/SD card).
  • [10. PLAY 1 Button]: Plays a single track once and then stops. Pressing again cancels the function.
  • [11. REPEAT Button]: Cycles through playback modes: PLAY ALL, RANDOM, REPEAT TRACK, REPEAT FOLDER, REPEAT ALL, RANDOM REPEAT, PLAY ALL.
  • [12. MEMORY/MEM Button]: Sets memory mode. FM band has 30 preset channels. Memory mode automatically releases after 5 seconds.
  • [13. CH V Button]: Decrements the preset memory number.
  • [14. TUNE V Button]: Decreases the tuner reception frequency by 50kHz. Holding for over 1 second initiates auto-tuning.
  • [15. Media Indicator LED]: Illuminates when in USB/SD/BT mode.
  • [16. << (SKIP/REW) Button]: Skips to the previous track. Holding it fast-rewinds.
  • [17. >> (SKIP/FF) Button]: Skips to the next track. Holding it fast-forwards.
  • [18. PLAY/PAUSE Button]: Starts playback or pauses it.
  • [19. STOP Button]: Stops playback for USB or SD sources.
  • [20. TUNER Indicator LED]: Illuminates when in Tuner mode.
  • [21. CH ^ Button]: Increments the preset memory number.
  • [22. TUNE ^ Button]: Increases the tuner reception frequency by 50kHz. Holding for over 1 second initiates auto-tuning.
  • [23. POWER Indicator LED]: Lights green when the unit is powered on.

Remote Control

The remote control provides access to various functions:

  • [32. MUTE Button]: Mutes or unmutes the audio output for USB, SD, BT, or TUNER.
  • [33. A-B Button]: Marks the start and end points for a section to be played cyclically. Pressing again cancels the function.
  • [34. SLEEP Button]: Sets the sleep timer, which can be adjusted from 90 minutes down to OFF. The unit powers off automatically after the set sleep time.
  • [35. ASM Button]: Initiates Auto Search and Memory function for the tuner, searching for and storing stations automatically.
  • [36. INTRO Button]: Plays the first ten seconds of each track.
  • [37. PROG Button]: Enters programming mode for track sequencing. Pressing STOP clears the program.
  • [38. DIRECT Button]: Enables direct frequency input for the tuner using number keys.
  • [39. Vol - Button]: Decreases the volume by one step.
  • [40. Number Buttons (0-9)]: In TUNER mode, jumps to preset channels 1-9 (0 for channel 10). In MEDIA mode, selects tracks directly.
  • [41. RAN Button]: Activates RANDOM REPEAT mode.
  • [42. ST/MO Button]: Switches the tuner between stereo and mono modes.
  • [43. +10/- Button]: Increments the preset station number by 10. Holding for over 1.5 seconds allows direct input of a preset station number.
  • [44. Vol + Button]: Increases the volume by one step.

Rear Panel

The rear panel provides connection terminals:

  • [24. DC Input Terminal]: Connects to a 24 V DC power supply.
  • [25. PRIORITY OUT Stereo Terminals]: Stereo audio output for USB, SD, BT, or FM priority sources. Output may be absent if USB, SD, or BT is connected/installed.
  • [26. TUNER OUT Stereo Terminals]: Stereo audio output for received radio programs.
  • [27. USB/SD/BT OUT Stereo Terminals]: Stereo audio output for USB, SD, or Bluetooth sources.
  • [28. PLAY TRACK Terminals]: Allows triggering playback of specific tracks (TRACK1.MP3, TRACK2.MP3, TRACK3.MP3) by connecting terminals 1, 2, or 3 to GND. If USB and SD have files with the same name, USB takes priority. Files must be in a folder named MD300.
  • [29. ANTENNA Terminal]: Connects to an FM antenna.
  • [30. Functional Earth Terminal]: Connects to the functional earth terminal of external equipment to reduce noise. Note: This is not a protective earth terminal.
  • [31. PLAY ALL/STOP Terminal]: Connect terminal P to GND to play all MP3 files on USB or SD (USB priority if both are present). Connect terminal S to GND to stop playback.
