Chamberlain 3-Button Keychain Remote Control
Models: 953EV, 953EV-P2, 935EVC, 953EVC-P2, 956EV, 956EV-P2, 956EVC, and 956EVC-P2
Introduction
This remote control is designed for use with Chamberlain 315 MHz or 390 MHz garage door openers manufactured after January 1, 1993. It can be programmed to operate up to three compatible devices, such as garage door openers and gate operators.
Before you start: Ensure your garage door opener has a working light, as it serves as a programming indicator.

⚠️ WARNING: To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH from a moving gate or garage door:
- ALWAYS keep remote controls out of reach of children. NEVER permit children to operate or play with remote controls.
- Activate gate or door ONLY when it can be seen clearly, is properly adjusted, and there are no obstructions to door travel.
- ALWAYS keep gate or garage door in sight until completely closed. NEVER permit anyone to cross the path of a moving gate or door.
Remote Types
This manual covers two main types of remotes:
- Garage Access System Remote: Models 953EV, 953EV-P2, 953EVC, and 953EVC-P2
- Garage Access System Keychain Remote: Models 956EV, 956EV-P2, 956EVC, and 956EVC-P2
Preparation for Programming
To program your remote, you will need to identify the type of LEARN button on your garage door opener and locate the PROGRAM button on your remote.
Locating the LEARN Button on the Opener
The LEARN button is typically found on the back panel of the garage door opener motor unit. It may be accompanied by an LED indicator. Common LEARN button colors and their corresponding opener technologies are:
- Yellow LEARN button: Security+ 2.0
- Purple LEARN button: 315 MHz Security+®
- Red/Orange LEARN button: 390 MHz Security+®
- Green LEARN button: 390 MHz Billion Code
Note: Your garage door opener may have a different appearance or button color.
Locating the PROGRAM Button on the Remote
The PROGRAM button is located on the remote control itself. Refer to the remote diagrams for its specific location.
Connecting to the myQ® App
For enhanced monitoring and control, you can connect your compatible garage door opener to the myQ® app.
- Check your garage door opener for a Wi-Fi ? or a Powered by myQ® [myQ logo] logo to determine compatibility. If not compatible, proceed directly to manual programming.
- To monitor garage door movements, scan the provided QR code [QR code for myQ app] to download the myQ® app.
- Follow the in-app instructions to add your remote and name it.
- Once setup is complete, you can control your garage door opener and receive notifications each time it opens or closes. (Example: "John opened the garage door at 4:32 p.m.")

Programming the Remote Control
Follow the steps below based on your remote model type.
Programming for Models 953EV, 953EV-P2, 953EVC, 953EVC-P2
- Press and hold the [Program button] on the remote control until the [LED indicator] on the front of the remote turns on.
- Press and release the remote control button you wish to use, the number of times that corresponds with your garage door opener type:
- 1 press: Yellow Learn Button (Security+ 2.0®)
- 2 presses: Purple Learn Button (315 MHz Security+®)
- 3 presses: Red/Orange Learn Button (390 MHz Security+®)
- 4 presses: Green Learn Button (390 MHz Billion Code)
- To exit programming mode, press any remote control button except the one you just programmed.
- Press and release the [Learn button] on the garage door opener.
- Press the remote control button programmed in step 2 until the garage door opener lights flash or two [click sound] are heard.
- To test, press the programmed button on the remote control. The [LED indicator] will light, and within 30 seconds, the garage door opener will activate.
- Install the [visor clip].
Programming for Models 956EV, 956EV-P2, 956EVC, 956EVC-P2
- Press and hold the [Program button] on the remote control until the [LED indicator] on the front of the remote turns on.
- Press and release the remote control button you wish to use, the number of times that corresponds with your garage door opener type:
- 1 press: Yellow Learn Button (Security+ 2.0®)
- 2 presses: Purple Learn Button (315 MHz Security+®)
- 3 presses: Red/Orange Learn Button (390 MHz Security+®)
- 4 presses: Green Learn Button (390 MHz Billion Code)
- To exit programming mode, press any remote control button except the one you just programmed.
- Press and release the [Learn button] on the garage door opener.
- Press the remote control button programmed in step 2 until the garage door opener lights flash or two [click sound] are heard.
- To test, press the programmed button on the remote control. The [LED indicator] will light, and within 30 seconds, the garage door opener will activate.
- Install the [visor clip] using a [paper clip] or similar tool to pry open the case if needed.
Replacing the Battery ?
The [LED indicator] on your remote will stop flashing when the battery is low and needs replacement.
⚠️ WARNING: To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- NEVER allow small children near batteries.
- If a battery is swallowed, immediately notify a doctor.
To reduce the risk of fire, explosion, or chemical burn:
- Replace ONLY with 3V CR2032 coin cell batteries.
- DO NOT recharge, disassemble, heat above 212° F (100° C), or incinerate.
Battery Replacement Procedure:
Open the remote case as shown in the diagrams. Insert the new battery with the positive side up (+). Dispose of the old battery properly.
- For Models 953EV, 953EV-P2, 953EVC, and 953EVC-P2: Pry open the case first in the middle (1), then at each side (2 and 3) using the [visor clip].
- For Models 956EV, 956EV-P2, 956EVC, and 956EVC-P2: Pry open the case using a [screwdriver] blade.
