Chamberlain 3-Button Remote Controls
Models: 953EV, 953EVC, 956EV, and 956EVC
Product Overview
These Chamberlain 3-button remote controls are designed for use with Chamberlain 315 MHz or 390 MHz garage door openers manufactured after January 1, 1993. Each remote can control up to three garage door openers. The garage door opener activates when the programmed button on the remote control is pressed. A working light bulb on the garage door opener serves as a programming indicator.
Safety Warnings
To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- ALWAYS keep remote controls out of reach of children. NEVER permit children to operate or play with remote controls.
- Activate gate or door ONLY when it can be seen clearly, is properly adjusted, and there are no obstructions to door travel.
- ALWAYS keep gate or garage door in sight until completely closed. NEVER permit anyone to cross the path of a moving gate or door.
Preparation
Before programming, locate the 'Learn' button on your garage door opener. The appearance of this button may vary. Also, locate the 'Program' button on the remote control itself.
Remote Control Types:
- Garage Access System Remote: Models 953EV and 953EVC
- Garage Access System Keychain Remote: Models 956EV and 956EVC
The 'Learn' button on the garage door opener can be Green, Red/Orange, or Purple, depending on the opener type.
Programming the Remote Control (Models 953EV & 953EVC)
- Press and hold the program button on the remote control until the LED on the front turns on.
- Press and release the remote control button you wish to use, the number of times corresponding to your garage door opener type:
- 1 Press: Security+ 2.0™ (Yellow Learn Button)
- 2 Presses: 315 MHz Security+® (Purple Learn Button)
- 3 Presses: 390 MHz Security+® (Red/Orange Learn Button)
- 4 Presses: 390 MHz Billion Code (Green Learn Button)
- To exit programming mode, press any remote control button except the one just programmed.
- Press and release the 'Learn' button on the garage door opener. The 'Learn' LED will light.
- Press the remote control button programmed in step 2 until the garage door opener lights flash or two clicks are heard.
- To test, press the programmed button on the remote control. The garage door opener will activate.
- Install the visor clip.
Programming the Remote Control (Models 956EV & 956EVC)
- Press and hold the program button on the remote control until the LED on the front turns on.
- Press and release the remote control button you wish to use, the number of times corresponding to your garage door opener type (see list in section above).
- To exit programming mode, press any remote control button except the one just programmed.
- Press and release the 'Learn' button on the garage door opener. The 'Learn' LED will light.
- Press the remote control button programmed in step 2 until the garage door opener lights flash or two clicks are heard.
- To test, press the programmed button on the remote control. The garage door opener will activate.
Battery Replacement
The LED on your remote will stop flashing when the battery is low and needs replacement. To replace the battery, open the case as shown and insert a new 3V CR2032 coin cell battery with the positive side up (+). Dispose of the old battery properly.
Replacing Battery in Models 953EV & 953EVC:
Pry open the case first in the middle, then at each side using the visor clip.
Replacing Battery in Models 956EV & 956EVC:
Pry open the case with a screwdriver blade.
To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- NEVER allow small children near batteries.
- If a battery is swallowed, immediately notify a doctor.
To reduce risk of fire, explosion, or chemical burn:
- Replace ONLY with 3V CR2032 coin batteries.
- DO NOT recharge, disassemble, heat above 212° F (100° C), or incinerate.

The Chamberlain Group, Inc. warrants to the first retail purchaser of this product that it is free from defects in materials and/or workmanship for a period of 1 year from the date of purchase.
