Shelly Wave 1 Mini User Manual and Safety
Introduction
This document contains important technical and safety information regarding the Device, its safe use, and installation. Please read this manual and any other documents accompanying the device carefully and in their entirety before starting the installation.
Shelly Qubino is a line of microprocessor-controlled innovative devices that allow for remote control of electrical circuits with a smartphone, tablet, computer, or home automation system. They operate on the Z-Wave® wireless communication protocol, using a gateway which is necessary for device configuration. When the gateway is connected to the internet, you can control Shelly Qubino devices remotely from anywhere.
The Device is a smart switch with a small form factor and dry contacts (potential-free contacts). It controls the on/off function of one electrical appliance (with a load up to 8 A AC or 5 A DC), such as a light bulb, ceiling fan, infrared heater, electric lock, garage doors, irrigation system. It is compatible with switches (by default) and buttons.
Safety Precautions
WARNING! Electric shock hazard. Installation of the device to the electrical grid must be carried out with caution by a qualified electrician.
WARNING! Electric shock hazard. Any changes to the connections must be made after ensuring that there is no voltage on the device terminals.
WARNING! Use the device only with electrical grids and appliances that comply with all applicable regulations. Short circuit in the electrical grid or any appliance connected to the device may damage it.
WARNING! Do not open the device. It does not contain any user-serviceable parts. For safety and licensing reasons, unauthorized modification and/or modification of the device is not permitted.
WARNING! The load current circuit must be secured with a circuit breaker in accordance with EN60898-1 (trip characteristic B or C, max. 10 A rated current, min. 6 kA breaking capacity, energy limitation class 3).
WARNING! SELV/PELV circuits must not be connected to the terminals of the inputs and outputs, including the expansion inputs.
WARNING! Do not connect the device to appliances exceeding the specified maximum load!
WARNING! Do not shorten the antenna.
RECOMMENDATION: Place the antenna as far as possible from metal elements, as they can cause signal interference.
WARNING! Connect the device only as shown in these instructions. Any other method may cause damage and/or injury.
WARNING! Do not install the device in places where it can get wet.
WARNING! Do not use the device if it is damaged!
WARNING! Do not attempt to service or repair the device yourself!
WARNING! Before starting the installation of the device, check that the circuit breakers are switched off and there is no voltage on their terminals. This can be done with a mains voltage tester or a multimeter. Once you are sure there is no voltage, you can proceed with connecting the wires.
WARNING! Do not allow children to play with the switches/buttons connected to the device. Keep Shelly Qubino remote control devices (mobile phones, tablets, computers) away from children.
RECOMMENDATION: Connect the device using solid single-core wires or stranded wires with ferrules. The wires must have increased heat resistance insulation, not less than PVC T105°C (221°F).
RECOMMENDATION: For inductive loads that cause voltage spikes during switching on/off, such as electric motors, fans, vacuum cleaners, and similar, an RC suppressor (0.1 μF / 100 Ω / 1/2 W / 600 V AC) should be connected in parallel to the appliance.
Installation Instructions
The device can be additionally installed in standard electrical boxes, behind sockets and light switches, or other places with limited space.
For installation instructions, refer to the wiring diagrams (Fig. 1) in this user manual.
Wiring Diagram (Fig. 1):
Device Terminals:
- N: Neutral terminal
- L: Live terminal (110-240 V AC)
- SW (SW1): Input terminal for switch/button (controlling O (01))
- O (01): Output terminal of the load circuit (1)
- I: Input terminal of the load circuit
Wires:
- N: Neutral wire
- L: Live wire (110-240 V AC)
- Button S: Button S (Fig. 2)
Connect the phase conductor to terminal L of the device, and the neutral conductor to terminal N, as shown in Fig. 1. Connect a switch or button to the SW terminal of the device and the phase conductor.
Operating Instructions
If the switch (SW1) is configured as a switch, any toggle of the switch will change the state of output O (01) to the opposite: on, off, on, etc. If the switch (SW1) is configured as a button in the device settings, each press of the button will change the state of output O (01) to the opposite: on, off, on, etc.
Supported Load Types
- Resistive (incandescent lamps, heating devices)
- Inductive with RC damper (LED drivers, transformers, fans, refrigerators, air conditioners)
- Capacitive (capacitor banks, electronic equipment, motor start capacitors)
