TERMINOLOGY AND ABBREVIATIONS
- Gateway - A Z-Wave® gateway, also called a Z-Wave® controller, Z-Wave® master controller, Z-Wave® primary controller, or Z-Wave® hub, is a device that serves as a central hub for a smart home Z-Wave® network. In this document, the term "Gateway" is used.
- Button S - The service button of a Z-Wave® device, located on Z-Wave® devices, used for various functions such as inclusion (adding), exclusion (removing), and resetting the device to its factory default settings. In this document, the term "Button S" is used.
- Device - In this document, the term "Device" is used to refer to the Shelly Qubino device that is the subject of this manual.
ABOUT SHELLY QUBINO
Shelly Qubino is a line of innovative microprocessor-controlled devices that allow remote control of electrical circuits with a smartphone, tablet, computer, or home automation system. They operate on the Z-Wave® wireless communication protocol, using a gateway, which is necessary to configure the devices. When the gateway is connected to the internet, you can control Shelly Qubino devices remotely from anywhere. Shelly Qubino devices can operate in any Z-Wave® network with other Z-Wave® certified devices from other manufacturers. All controlled nodes in the network will act as repeaters regardless of the vendor in order to increase the reliability of the network. The devices are designed to work with older generations of Z-Wave® devices and gateways.
ABOUT THE DEVICE
The Device is a small form-factor smart switch with power metering. It controls the on/off function of a single electrical appliance with a load of up to 8 A AC, such as a light bulb, ceiling fan, or infrared heater. It is compatible with switches (by default) and buttons.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The Device can be additionally mounted in standard electrical boxes, behind sockets and light switches, or other places with limited space.
For installation instructions, refer to the wiring diagrams (Figure 1) in this user manual.
⚠️ WARNING! Risk of electric shock. Installation of the device to the electrical network must be carried out with caution by a qualified electrician.
⚠️ WARNING! Risk of electric shock. Any changes to the connections must be made after ensuring that there is no voltage on the device terminals.
⚠️ WARNING! Use the device only with an electrical network and appliances that comply with all applicable regulations. A short circuit in the electrical network or any appliance connected to the device may damage it.
⚠️ WARNING! Do not open the device. It does not contain any parts that can be maintained by the user. For safety and licensing reasons, unauthorized modification and/or alteration of the device is not permitted.
⚠️ WARNING! The load current circuit must be secured with a circuit breaker in accordance with EN60898-1 (trip characteristic B or C, max. 10 A rated current, min. 6 kA breaking capacity, energy limitation class 3).
⚠️ WARNING! SELV/PELV circuits must not be connected to the terminals of the inputs and outputs, including the expansion inputs.
⚠️ WARNING! Do not connect the device to appliances exceeding the specified maximum load!
⚠️ WARNING! Do not shorten the antenna.
? RECOMMENDATION: Place the antenna as far as possible from metal objects, as they can cause signal interference.
⚠️ WARNING! Connect the device only as shown in these instructions. Any other method may cause damage and/or injury.
⚠️ WARNING! Do not install the device in places where it can get wet.
⚠️ WARNING! Do not use the device if it is damaged!
⚠️ WARNING! Do not attempt to service or repair the device yourself!
⚠️ WARNING! Before starting the installation of the device, check that the circuit breakers are switched off and there is no voltage on their terminals. This can be done with a mains voltage tester or a multimeter. Once you are sure there is no voltage, you can proceed with connecting the wires.
⚠️ WARNING! Do not allow children to play with the switches/buttons connected to the device. Keep Shelly Qubino remote control devices (mobile phones, tablets, computers) away from children.
? RECOMMENDATION: Connect the device using solid single-core wires or stranded wires with ferrules. The wires must have insulation with increased heat resistance, not less than PVC T105°C (221°F).
? RECOMMENDATION: For inductive appliances that cause voltage spikes during switching on/off, such as electric motors, fans, vacuum cleaners, and similar, an RC suppressor (0.1 μF / 100 Ω / 1/2 W / 600 VAC) should be connected in parallel to the appliance.
