TP-Link VIGI Network Camera Quick Start Guide
Safety First
- ⚠️ Make sure your power supply matches your camera. The camera's standard power supply is 12V DC (5.5W) or PoE (802.3af/at). The power source should meet LPS, PS2, and other requirements according to IEC 62368-1.
- ⚠️ Make sure that the wall is strong enough to withstand 4 times the weight of the camera and mounting bracket.
- ⚠️ If you are uncertain or uncomfortable performing the installation, consult a qualified electrician.
Appearance
The camera features a compact design with various functional components. The main body is typically white or black, designed for outdoor use. The cover is secured by two screws and must be removed to access internal components like the Micro SD card slot or reset button.
- 1 Microphone: For capturing audio.
- 2 IR LED: Infrared LED for night vision capabilities.
- 3 White Light: White LED, potentially for illumination or status indication.
- 4 Lens: The primary optical component for capturing video footage.
- 5 RESET Button: A button used to reset the camera to factory default settings; requires a long press.
- 6 Micro SD Card Slot: For inserting a Micro SD card for local video storage. The SD card needs to be initialized via the VIGI app before recording.
- 7 Speaker: For audio output, such as alerts or two-way audio.
- 8 RJ45 Ethernet Port: Connects the camera to the network and supports Power over Ethernet (PoE).
- 9 Power Supply Interface: For connecting a 12V DC power adapter.

- Quick Start Guide: This document, providing initial setup instructions.
Mount Camera
Option 1: Wall/Ceiling Mounting
This method involves using a mounting template to mark and drill holes on a wall or ceiling, then securing the camera bracket with anchors and screws. The bracket allows for angle adjustment from 0° to 180°.
- Stick the mounting template to the desired mounting place. Drill 4 screw holes according to the template.
- Insert the anchors into the holes, use the provided screws to fix the camera's bracket to the wall or ceiling.
Option 2: Pole Mounting
This option uses cable ties to attach the camera bracket to a pole. The bracket has specific slits for threading the cable ties.
- Thread each of the two cable ties through the slits on the back of the camera's bracket.
- Slip the two cable ties through the pole. Tighten them to firmly attach the pole.
Installing Waterproof Cable Attachments
This section details how to ensure a waterproof connection for the network interface when the camera is installed outdoors. It's crucial that each part is securely attached and waterproof rings are flush to prevent water ingress.
The components involved are: Fix Nut, Waterproof Ring, Waterproof Jacket, and O-ring.
- Route the network cable through the following components in order: fix nut, waterproof ring, and then the waterproof jacket.
- Fix the O-ring to the network interface of the camera and connect the network cables.
- Attach the network interface with the waterproof jacket, then twist to lock.
- Insert the waterproof ring into the waterproof jacket. Rotate the fix nut to secure it to the waterproof jacket.
Done! The network interface is now waterproof.
Use Your Camera with an NVR
The camera can be used with a Network Video Recorder (NVR) for centralized batch access and management. The diagram shows a typical setup: a Network Camera connects to a Network Device (e.g., Switch or Router), which then connects to a VIGI NVR, and the NVR connects to a Monitor.
Step 1. Connect the Hardware
Connect your cameras to the same network as your NVR.
Step 2. Power On the Cameras
Power on your cameras using either the PoE power supply or an external power adapter. The camera's standard power supply is 12V DC (5.5W) or PoE (802.3af/at), meeting IEC 62368-1 requirements.
Step 3. Add Cameras with the NVR
Ensure the NVR is operational before starting. The process involves adding cameras via the NVR's interface.
- Right-click on the Live View screen and click 'Add Camera'.
- Select your camera and click '+' to add it directly. If Plug and Play is disabled on your NVR, you may need to create or use a preset password for your camera.
Note: If your camera is not discovered, refer to FAQ-Q1.
You can now view live video and manage cameras.
Using your cameras with other NVR brands:
- Power on your cameras and connect them to the network.
- Activate the camera using the VIGI Security Manager or TP-Link VIGI app.
- Refer to the specific NVR's User Manual to add cameras.
More Management Methods
Cameras can also be managed through dedicated software or mobile applications.
Method 1: Via the VIGI Security Manager (Windows only)
This application allows viewing live video and modifying camera settings on a Windows computer.
- Download the VIGI Security Manager from https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/vigi-security-manager/.
- Install and open the VIGI Security Manager.
- Cameras on the same network will be discovered automatically. Navigate to Settings > Discovered Devices, click '+ Add' to activate cameras by setting passwords, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Method 2: Via the TP-Link VIGI App
This mobile app enables remote viewing, camera management, and instant alerts.
- Download and install the TP-Link VIGI app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Open the TP-Link VIGI app and log in with your TP-Link ID. Sign up if you don't have an account.
- Tap the '+' button on the top right and follow the app instructions to activate and add your cameras.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What can I do if no cameras are discovered?
- Refresh the discovery process to find your camera again.
- Ensure the camera is powered on.
- Verify that your camera and NVR/computer are on the same subnet. If not, use the VIGI Security Manager to adjust network parameters.
- Attempt to add cameras manually.
- For other NVR brands, confirm the camera has been activated by setting a password via the VIGI Security Manager or TP-Link VIGI app.
Q2: How do I know the camera is powered on?
- The IR LED will illuminate for 20 seconds upon power-up. If it remains off, cover the lens for a few seconds and check if the IR LED turns on.
- Check the LED status indicator on the network device your camera is connected to.
