Tire Care and Maintenance
Tire Care
Avoid driving on damaged, excessively worn, or improperly inflated tires. Do not allow tires to come into contact with automotive fluids, as this can cause damage. Avoid wheel spin, as it can damage the tire structure and cause it to fail. If wheel spin is unavoidable, do not exceed 50 km/h (30 mph). After driving on rough terrain, inspect tires for damage. Immediately after rejoining normal road surfaces, stop and check tires for damage. Regularly inspect all tires, including the spare, for damage, wear, and deformation. If you have any doubts about tire condition, consult a repair shop or your Land Rover dealer.
Tire Pressure
Do not start a journey if tires are improperly inflated. Check tire pressure on cold tires, after the vehicle has been stationary for at least three hours. If the pressure in a hot tire is at or below the recommended level, it will be lower when the tire is cold. Do not reduce tire pressure if the vehicle is parked in direct sunlight or exposed to high ambient temperatures. Move the vehicle to a shaded area and allow tires to cool before checking pressure.
Tire pressure values are listed on a sticker located in the driver's door frame. The sticker shows recommended pressures for front and rear tires, in kPa, BAR, and PSI.
Tire Pressure Check Procedure:
- Unscrew the valve cap.
- Attach the pressure gauge/inflator to the valve.
- Read the gauge and inflate the tire if necessary.
- After inflating, remove the gauge and reattach it for a new measurement. Failure to do this may result in inaccurate readings.
- If the pressure is too high, remove the gauge and release air by pressing the valve core. Reattach the gauge and check the pressure.
- Repeat the process, adding or removing air as needed, until the correct pressure is achieved.
- Replace the valve cap.
Ensure valve caps are securely tightened to prevent water and dirt ingress. Check valves for air leaks when checking tire pressure.
Tire Punctures:
Do not drive on a punctured tire. Even if a punctured tire does not appear to be losing air, it is unsafe as it could deflate unexpectedly at any time.
Tire Replacement
Always install tires of the same type and, if possible, the same make and tread pattern. If using tires not approved by Land Rover, read and strictly follow the tire manufacturer's instructions. It is best to replace all four tires at once. If this is not possible, replace tires in pairs (both front or both rear). When replacing tires, ensure balancing and wheel alignment are checked.
Tire specifications for your vehicle are indicated on the tire information sticker. See page 261 for Tire Pressure Check.
Tire Aging
Tires age over time due to UV radiation, extreme temperatures, high loads, and environmental conditions. It is recommended to replace tires at least every six years, although replacement may be necessary sooner.
Winter Tire Usage
If your vehicle is equipped with winter tires, follow the manufacturer's instructions. Pay close attention to the correct tire pressure at the maximum speed for which the vehicle is designed.
Land Rover Approved Winter Tires:
- 18-inch wheels: 235/65 R18 110H Dunlop Winter Sport M3
- 19-inch wheels: 255/65 R19 111H Goodyear Ultra Grip
- 20-inch wheels: 255/50 R20 109H Continental Cross Contact Winter
Snow Chain Usage
Use snow chains only in conditions of heavy snow on hard road surfaces. When using snow chains, the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system should be switched off.
For improved traction on hard road surfaces in heavy snow, use snow chains approved by Land Rover. Do not use chains in off-road conditions.
When installing snow chains, follow these rules:
- Do not install snow chains on the rear wheels.
- Single snow chains with studs may only be installed on the front wheels with 18 or 19-inch diameter.
- Installed wheels and tires must match the original equipment specifications.
- Only use snow chains approved by Land Rover. Only Land Rover-approved snow chains have been tested to ensure they do not damage the vehicle. Contact your dealer or technical center for more information.
- Always read and follow the snow chain manufacturer's instructions, paying special attention to maximum speed and installation guidelines.
- Avoid damaging tires/vehicle when removing snow chains, as conditions permit.
Do not exceed 50 km/h (30 mph) when snow chains are fitted. Do not install snow chains on a temporary spare wheel.
Tire Pressure Compensation for Ambient Temperature
Lower ambient temperatures will cause tire pressure to drop, reducing sidewall height and increasing shoulder wear, which can lead to tire failure. This can also significantly degrade vehicle dynamics. Therefore, it is necessary to compensate for this by adjusting tire pressure before driving. Tire pressure can also be adjusted upon arrival in an area with lower ambient temperatures. Allow the vehicle to remain outdoors for at least one hour before adjusting pressure. For every 10°C (20°F) drop in ambient temperature, increase tire pressure by 14 kPa (0.14 bar or 2 psi).
Note: When traveling to areas with different ambient temperatures, monitor tire pressure.
Tire Deformation During Extended Parking
To reduce the likelihood of flat spots, tire pressure can be increased to the maximum value indicated on the tire sidewall while the vehicle is stationary. Before driving, the tire pressure should be returned to normal.
