INSTRUCTION MANUAL

PLEASE READ THIS MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE PRODUCT FOR THE FIRST TIME AND KEEP IT SAFE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

This section details the components of the EP712 SOLAR DAB+/FM RADIO.

3. BATTERY INSTALLATION/ CHARGING MODES

The main power sources for the DAB+/FM radio are dry batteries, the built-in rechargeable battery, and DC input via USB cable.

Power Sources:

  1. Dry Batteries: To use dry batteries, open the battery compartment (20) and set the switch to "BATT". Ensure correct polarity when installing batteries.
  2. Lithium Rechargeable Battery: Set the switch to "LI BATT". The radio must be charged before use.

Charging Modes:

The primary charging mode is via USB cable. Solar panel and crank handle are auxiliary charging functions.

4. OPERATION

After selecting the power source, proceed with operation.

4.1 BASIC FUNCTIONS

4.1.1 Turn On or Off:

  • To turn on, press and hold the POWER (?) button until "Welcome to Digital radio DAB+" is displayed.
  • To turn off, press and hold the POWER (?) button for 2-3 seconds. The radio enters standby mode with a clock display. Press and hold again until "GOOD BYE" is displayed to turn it OFF.
  • To exit standby mode, press the POWER (?) button once.

4.1.2 MODE Function:

  • Press the MODE (?) button to enter mode selection.
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ repeatedly to cycle through the available modes: DAB+, FM, BLUETOOTH, TF CARD, USB KEY.
  • Once the desired mode is selected, press the SCAN (?) button to enter, or wait approximately 2-3 seconds.

4.2 USING YOUR DAB+/FM RADIO

Important Remarks on DAB and FM:

  • Pull out the antenna completely before scanning for stations.
  • The radio can store up to 40 DAB and 40 FM stations.
  • Signal strength may be reduced in built-up areas, basements, or buildings with thick walls. Placing the radio near a window can improve reception.
  • If you move the radio to a new location, perform a local scan.
  • DAB+ coverage varies by area; check local availability online.
  • Regularly perform scans to update the station list as new stations become available.
  • Storing a new DAB station preset will overwrite an existing one on the same number, but DAB presets do not affect FM presets, and vice-versa.

Earphones (Included):

  • Insert the included earphones (?) into the earphone jack.
  • Ensure the volume is not too loud before using earphones. To avoid hearing damage, do not listen at high volumes for extended periods. Adjust volume to a level that suits your hearing sensitivity.
  • Note: Volume can only be adjusted when the radio, USB key, or TF card is playing.

4.2.1 DAB+ Mode:

  • Full Scan on First Use: When first turned on, the radio automatically performs a full scan for available DAB+ stations. The number of saved stations is displayed during scanning. The radio will tune to the first station found upon completion. If no stations are found, "DAB NO station" is displayed.
  • Entering DAB Mode (Subsequent Uses): Press the MODE (?) button, select the DAB icon using ◀️ or ▶️, then press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Full Scan: In DAB mode, press and hold the SCAN (?) button to start scanning for available DAB+ stations. Do not press any other button during scanning.
  • Listening to Preset DAB+ Stations: After scanning, press ◀️ or ▶️ once in DAB+ mode to view the list of saved stations. Repeatedly press ◀️ or ▶️ to scroll through stations and press SCAN (?) to listen. Adjust the antenna or radio position for best reception.
  • DAB Station Display Information (Menu Info): When listening to a DAB+ station, repeatedly press MENU INFO (ℹ️) to display information such as "Radio Text" (program details), "Program Type" (e.g., Rock, Jazz), "Group name", "Frequency", "Signal error" (0-99, lower is better), "Signal strength" (bar indicator), "Audio information" (bit rate, codec), and "Date/Weekday".

Note: The DAB+ radio can automatically synchronize its clock with DAB station time signals.

4.2.2 MODE FM:

  • Entering FM Mode: Press MODE (?), select the FM icon using ◀️ or ▶️, then press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Full Scan: In FM mode, press and hold SCAN (?) to start auto-scan. The number of saved stations is displayed. The radio tunes to the first station found upon completion.
  • Listening to Preset FM Stations: In FM mode, use CH- (◀️) or CH+ (▶️) to select the previous or next saved FM station.
  • Fine Tuning: If reception is poor, press ◀️ or ▶️ to fine-tune the frequency by 0.05MHz increments.
  • FM Station Display Information: When listening to an FM station, repeatedly press MENU INFO (ℹ️) to display "Radio text", "Programme station name", "Program type", "station frequency", "date", and "weekday".

4.2.3 Bluetooth Mode:

  • Press MODE (?), select the Bluetooth icon using ◀️ or ▶️, then press SCAN (?) to enter. "Pairing" will be displayed.
  • Turn on your phone or other device and activate its Bluetooth settings. Find "EP712 DAB RADIO" and pair your device.
  • Once paired, play audio from your device as usual.

NOTE: Ensure your Bluetooth device is within 10 meters and avoid other nearby Bluetooth devices that might cause interference.

4.3 USB MODE/ TF CARD MODE - MP3 File Playback:

  • Compatible audio files: MP3 only.
  • Maximum capacity for TF card and USB key (not included): 32GB.
  • The USB key or TF card must contain at least one MP3 audio file to be detected.
  • Press MODE (?), select the TF card (?️) or USB (?) icon using ◀️ or ▶️, then press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Insert the TF card or USB key into the corresponding slot. The radio will access the track list. MP3 files may play automatically after 2-3 seconds.
  • Use ◀️ or ▶️ to play the previous or next track. Long press ◀️ or ▶️ to rewind or fast forward.
  • Press SCAN (?) to pause or resume listening.

4.4 FLASHLIGHT LAMP:

Press the lamp button (?) to turn the flashlight on. Press again to turn it off.

4.5 MENU MODE (DAB+ and FM Modes)

4.5.1 Entering Menu Mode:

  • In DAB or FM mode, press and hold MENU INFO (ℹ️).
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ repeatedly to choose the desired menu. Press SCAN (?) to confirm.

Note: To exit a menu, submenu, or option, press the Return to Last Menu (↩️) button.

4.5.2 Station List (DAB Mode Only):

  • After entering menu mode and selecting "Station list", press ◀️ or ▶️ to select a desired radio station.
  • Press SCAN (?) to listen to its program.

4.5.3 Preset Recall:

  • In FM menu, this displays stations after scanning. In DAB menu, it lists previously stored stations.
  • After entering menu mode and selecting "Preset recall", press ◀️ or ▶️ to select a desired radio station.
  • Press SCAN (?) to listen to its program.

4.5.4 Preset Store:

  • In FM menu, this displays stations after scanning. For DAB, follow these steps to store:
  • In DAB mode, tune to the station you wish to store.
  • Press and hold MENU INFO (ℹ️).
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ to choose "Preset store", then press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ to choose a storage position (e.g., 1). Press SCAN (?) to assign the station to that position. "Favorite station set" will be displayed.
  • Repeat steps to store other stations.

4.5.5 Scan:

After entering menu mode and selecting "Scan", press SCAN (?) to perform a scan.

4.5.6 Manual Tune (DAB Mode Only):

  • After entering menu mode and selecting "Manual tune", press ◀️ or ▶️ to select the channel frequency (e.g., "5 A" to "13F").
  • Press SCAN (?) to enter. Adjust antenna or relocate the radio to get the strongest signal for the selected channel. The radio will play once the search is complete.

Note: If the radio fails to receive a signal, press Return to Last Menu (↩️) to exit and select another channel frequency.

4.5.7 Prune Function (DAB Mode Only):

This function, available only in DAB+ mode, deletes stations with weak signals from the station list. After performing a scan, select "Prune". The system will identify and remove invalid stations.

  • After entering the PRUNE menu, press ◀️ or ▶️ to select "Yes".
  • Press SCAN (?) to prune the station list.

4.5.8 Backlight:

  • After entering menu mode and selecting "Backlight", press ◀️ or ▶️ to choose either "timeout" or "level". Press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ to select the desired option. Press SCAN (?) to confirm.

4.5.9 Sleep:

After entering menu mode and selecting "Sleep", press ◀️ or ▶️ to select the desired duration option: OFF (deactivation), 15mn, 30mn, 45mn, 60mn, 1H15, 1H30, 1H45, 2H. The radio will turn off automatically after the timer elapses.

4.5.10 EQ = Equalizer:

EQ (Equalizer) is a sound effect mode that works only when playing TF card, USB key, or via Bluetooth. It is not valid in DAB and FM modes.

  • After entering menu mode and selecting "EQ", press ◀️ or ▶️ to select the desired option (e.g., Normal, Classic, Pop, Jazz). Press SCAN (?) to confirm.

4.5.11 LANGUAGE:

  • After entering menu mode and selecting "Language", press ◀️ or ▶️ to select the desired language: English, German, French, Norwegian, Italian, Swedish, Danish, Polish, and Finnish. Press SCAN (?) to confirm.

4.5.12 Factory Reset:

  • After entering menu mode and selecting "Factory reset", press ◀️ or ▶️ to select "Yes". Press SCAN (?) to confirm. Factory default settings will be restored, and the radio will perform a scan of available stations.

4.5.13 System Version:

  • After entering menu mode and selecting "System version", press SCAN (?) to display the software version information.

4.5.14 Entering "Time/ Date":

  • After entering menu mode and choosing "Time/Date", press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ to select the desired submenu: SET TIME/DATE, SET HOUR SYSTEM, SET DATE FORMAT, CLOCK STYLE, AUTO UPDATE.
  • Press SCAN (?) to enter the selected submenu.
4.5.14.1 Time and Date Setting:
  • After selecting and entering the "set time and date" submenu, press ◀️ or ▶️ to set the flashing day (dd).
  • Press SCAN (?) to confirm and move to the next value.
  • For month (mm), year (yyyy), hour, and minute, press ◀️ or ▶️ to adjust the flashing value, then press SCAN (?) to confirm and move to the next.
4.5.14.2 Other Time/Date Submenus:
  • For "set hour system", "Set date format", "clock style", and "Auto update", select the submenu and press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ to select the desired option. Press SCAN (?) to confirm.

4.5.15 Alarms 1 & 2:

  • In DAB or FM mode, press and hold MENU INFO (ℹ️).
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ to select "ALARMS", then press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ to select Alarm 1 or Alarm 2. (Default: "Alarm 1 OFF"). Press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Press SCAN (?) to select ON (activation) or OFF (deactivation).
  • Press the POWER (?) button once to reach Alarm time. Press SCAN (?) to enter.
  • Press ◀️ or ▶️ to set the flashing alarm hour digit. Press SCAN (?) to confirm.
  • Repeat to set the alarm minute digit.
  • To set alarm sound, occurrence, and volume: Press the POWER (?) button once to reach the next setting. Press SCAN (?) to display options. Press ◀️ or ▶️ to select an option, then press SCAN (?) to confirm.
  • To set Alarm 2, return to the previous page and repeat steps 3-9.

NOTES:

  • To STOP Alarm: Press the POWER (?) button.
  • To ACTIVATE SNOOZE: Press the SCAN (?) button or MENU INFO (ℹ️) button. The alarm will sound again in 5 minutes. You can adjust the snooze interval (5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes) by gently turning the volume control knob.

5. WARNINGS

  • Keep away from heat sources, direct sunlight, humidity, and liquids.
  • Do not operate under high temperatures.
  • Do not immerse in water.
  • Do not subject to strong impacts; do not throw.
  • Do not drop, short-circuit, modify, disassemble, or puncture.
  • This is not a toy; keep out of reach of children.
  • In case of abnormalities (bulge, heat) during charging, disconnect the USB connector, stop use, and contact a qualified technician.
  • Do not attempt to repair the radio yourself; all repairs must be made by a qualified technician.
  • Disconnect from the USB connector after charging is complete.

6. BATTERY WARNINGS

  • Remove batteries if the radio will not be used for an extended period.
  • Never mix alkaline, regular (carbon-zinc), and rechargeable (nickel hydride) batteries.
  • Never mix old and new batteries.
  • Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • Remove rechargeable batteries from the appliance (if possible) before charging.
  • Rechargeable batteries should always be charged under adult supervision.
  • Remove used batteries.
  • Never short-circuit the power terminals.
  • Always use batteries of the recommended type or equivalent.
  • Observe correct polarity when replacing batteries.

7. SAFE INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECHARGEABLE BATTERY

ATTENTION: Lithium-ion batteries can rupture, ignite, or explode when exposed to high temperatures or direct sunlight. Do not disassemble or modify the battery, as its safety and protection devices could be damaged, leading to overheating, explosion, or ignition. The battery should not be removed until it is fully discharged and must be removed before the appliance is scrapped. The appliance must be disconnected from the mains supply before removing the battery. Do not plug the device in after removing the battery. The battery must be disposed of safely.

Since the battery cannot be removed from the product, dispose of the product and battery together at designated collection points for electronic waste. Ensure the battery is completely discharged before disposal.

8. MAINTENANCE

  • Clean only with a dry cloth.
  • Ensure no liquid reaches the inside of the unit.

Contact your local authorities to find out how and where collection takes place. This is due to the presence of dangerous substances in electrical and electronic devices that can harm the environment or human health.
