Generator Placement and Carbon Monoxide Hazard
DANGER: Using a generator indoors can kill you in minutes. Generator exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a poison you cannot see or smell. Never use inside a home or garage, even with doors and windows open. Use only outside and far away from windows, doors, and vents. Avoid other generator hazards. Read the manual before use.
WARNING: Do not overload the generator or electrical cords. Consult the operation manual.
Step 1: Add Lubricant and Fuel
Lubrication
Remove the maintenance cover. Use a funnel to pour 10W-30 engine oil into the engine. Fill to the upper mark of the oil dipstick (labeled 'H').
Fueling
Use clean, fresh regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum 87 octane.
Alternatively, use a propane/LPG hose with a regulator to connect a propane/LPG tank to the generator.
Fuel Indicator
Note the red line indicator for fuel level and the fuel cap.
Step 2: Start Generator
Preparation
Move the generator outside to a flat, level surface, away from doors, windows, and vents.
Starting with Gasoline
- Add gasoline to the fuel tank.
- Turn the starting dial switch to the 'START' position.
- Pull the recoil starter slowly until resistance is felt, then pull rapidly.
- Turn the starting dial switch to the 'RUN' position.
- Plug in items to be powered, using only grounded extension cords.
Starting with Propane/LPG
- Ensure the propane tank is fully closed.
- Connect the LPG gas hose to the propane fuel source.
- Fully open the Propane/LPG cylinder knob.
- Turn the starting dial switch to the 'START' position.
- Pull the recoil starter twice.
- Turn the starting dial switch to the 'RUN' position.
- Plug in items to be powered, using only grounded extension cords.
Note: For restarting a warm engine, turn the starting dial switch directly to the 'RUN' position.
Step 3: Shutdown and Storage
- Remove any load from the generator.
- Turn the starting dial switch to the 'OFF' position.
- Turn the fuel valve knob to the 'OFF' position.
If the generator is to be stored for longer than 30 days, refer to the operator's manual for further instructions.
Step 4: Changing Fuels
Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator before changing fuels.
Gasoline to Propane/LPG
- Connect the LPG gas hose to the propane fuel source.
- Ensure the propane tank is fully closed.
- Fully open the Propane/LPG cylinder knob.
Propane/LPG to Gasoline
To switch from propane/LPG to gasoline, turn off the propane supply at the tank. Add gasoline to the fuel tank and start the generator using the gasoline starting procedure.
