Sangean PR-D4BT Operating Instructions
This document provides operating instructions for the Sangean PR-D4BT portable radio. It covers safety instructions, controls, display information, battery operation, powering the radio, setting the clock, operating the radio (including scan tuning, manual tuning, and preset recall), setting alarms (radio and buzzer), Bluetooth functionality, and technical specifications.
Important Safety Instructions
Read and keep these instructions. Avoid water, use a dry cloth for cleaning, do not block ventilation, and avoid heat sources. Protect the power cord. Use only manufacturer-specified accessories. Unplug during lightning storms or long periods of non-use. Refer servicing to qualified personnel. Do not expose to rain or moisture. Caution: Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries properly.
Controls and Display
The radio features a speaker, power/sleep button, LCD display, mode/step button, radio alarm button, buzzer alarm button, Bluetooth status indicator, volume control, tuning buttons, scan/time setting button, preset buttons for tracks/functions, telescopic antenna, headphone socket, DC input socket, and a battery compartment.
The LCD display shows band indicator, frequency, sleep/snooze status, PM indicator, time set symbol, clock, buzzer alarm indicator, radio alarm indicator, frequency unit, battery power, and preset stations.
Powering the Radio
The radio can be powered using four UM-1 (D size) batteries or via the supplied USB cable connected to a 5V / 2.4A USB power source. If using a USB adapter, keep the radio at least 60cm away if interference occurs.
Setting the Clock
The clock can be set when the radio is on or off. Press and hold the time set button (10) for over 2 seconds. Use the tuning buttons (9) to set the hours, press the time set button again, then use the tuning buttons to set the minutes, and finally press the time set button to confirm.
Operating the Radio
Scan Tuning: Turn on the radio, select the waveband, extend the antenna for FM. Press the Scan button (10) to search and stop at a station. Press again to select the station. Adjust volume (8).
Manual Tuning: Turn on the radio, select waveband, adjust antenna. Use tuning buttons (9) to change frequency. Press and hold tuning buttons to scan rapidly. Adjust volume (8).
Storing Stations: Tune to a station, then press and hold a preset button (11-15) until a beep is heard. Repeat for other presets.
Recalling Stations: Turn on the radio, select waveband, and briefly press the desired preset button (11-15).
Setting the Alarm
Radio Alarm: Press and hold the radio alarm button (5) until the alarm symbol flashes. Set hour and minute using tuning buttons (9) and time set button (10). Select desired wakeup band and station, then confirm.
Buzzer Alarm (HWS): Press and hold the buzzer alarm button (6) until the alarm symbol flashes. Set hour and minute using tuning buttons (9) and time set button (10).
Snooze Function: Press any button except Power when the alarm sounds to activate snooze for 5 minutes. The snooze symbol will flash.
Sleep Function: Press and hold the Power button (2) for over 2 seconds to cycle through sleep times (60-45-30-15-120-90-60 minutes). The sleep symbol will appear. To cancel, press the Power button.
Bluetooth Operation
Pairing for the First Time: Select Bluetooth mode using the Mode/Step button (4). The Bluetooth LED (7) will flash blue. Activate Bluetooth on your device and select “PR-D4BT”. A confirmation tone will sound, and the LED will turn solid blue upon connection. Use radio controls (11-14) or device controls for playback.
Playing Audio Files: Once connected, play music from your device. Adjust volume using the radio's volume control (8) or your device. Use radio controls (11-14) or device controls for playback and track navigation.
Previously Paired Devices: The radio can memorize up to 6 devices. It attempts to reconnect to the last connected device.
Disconnecting: Press and hold the Bluetooth pairing button (14) for 2-3 seconds, or select another mode, or turn off Bluetooth on your device.

Additional Features
Display Backlight: Illuminated for approx. 10 seconds when any button is pressed, or during scanning and alarm activation.
Software Version: Displayed by holding Mode/Step button (4) for 2 seconds when radio is off.
Time Format: Set to 24H or 12H by holding Mode/Step button (4) after displaying software version.
Tuning Step Setting: Set FM (50/100kHz) and AM (9/10kHz) tuning steps.
Factory Reset: Reset to default settings by holding Preset 5 button (11) and Power button (2) until “dEF” flashes.
