1. Mounting the Brackets
Inside Mount
Note: Corded and cordless shades have pre-drilled holes in the headrail. Use these for bracket placement. If using your own screws, pre-drill a small hole with a 5/64" drill bit before final screw attachment.
- Hold the shade up inside the window frame, ensuring the front is flush with the wall. Mark through each headrail hole with a pencil.
- Center brackets over marks, aligning with the holes, and mark screw locations.
- Securely fasten brackets with screws using a Phillips drill bit.
Outside Mount
Note: If using your own screws, pre-drill a small hole with a 5/64" drill bit before final screw attachment.
- Center the headrail approximately two inches above the window. Mark lines with a pencil just above each pre-drilled headrail hole.
- Align the top edge of each bracket with the marks and mark screw locations through the back holes.
- Securely fasten brackets with screws using a Phillips drill bit.
*If using wall anchors, pre-drill with a 1/4" bit and tap anchors into the holes before drilling screws.
2. Attaching the Shade
Inside and Outside Mount
Important: Ensure the "wings" of the wingnut face the sides of the window to prevent cord tangling or damage.
- Remove wingnuts from brackets if not already done.
- Align headrail holes with bracket drop-bolts. Attach wingnuts to drop-bolts and tighten until the shade is firmly in place.
3. Additional Instructions
Installing Chain Tension Device
Note: Tension devices ensure smooth operation and child safety. Remove any protective plastic from the chain before proceeding. Slide the tension device to the bottom of the bead chain loop.
- Insert a screwdriver, punch, or awl through the screw at the bottom of the tension device.
- Press the tension device release buttons while moving the screw hole down to release the safety mechanism.
- Slide the tension device to the bottom of the bead chain loop and position it.
- Mark the window casement at the tension device's notch.
- Align the tension device's center screw hole with the mark (within ±1/8"). Mount the tension device using one of the following methods:
Inside Mount with Bracket
- Align the bracket's center hole with the mark and mark hole locations.
- Drill 1/8" pilot holes. If using anchors, tap them into 7/32" pre-drilled holes. Attach the bracket with screws.
- Press tension device release buttons while pulling down the spring-loaded screw hole. Insert the bracket's nub into the back of the tension device's screw hole.
- Insert the small screw through the nub and tighten to secure the tension device to the bracket.
Inside Mount Without Bracket
Note: Use the provided mounting bracket for textured or uneven surfaces.
- Position the tension device with its spring-loaded screw hole aligned with the mark.
- If anchors are required, tap them into the 7/32" pre-drilled hole.
- Insert longer screws into the tension device's spring-loaded screw hole and attach.
Outside Mount
- Align the Outside bracket's center hole with the mark and mark screw hole locations.
Caution:
- The window covering requires a secured tension device to operate properly.
- Locate the tensioner close to the window glass to minimize accessibility by children and pets.
- Ensure the tension device does not obstruct the bottom rail or fabric, which could affect shade function and increase bead chain wear.
Warning: A damaged, loose, or missing tension device poses a strangulation risk. Remove from use and repair or replace immediately.
