Product Overview

The VIOFO A329 is a dash cam designed for vehicles. This manual provides detailed instructions for its setup, operation, and maintenance.

Display Overview

The dash cam display shows various status icons:

Installation

Insert / Remove the Memory Card

Insert the memory card: Ensure the camera is off. Hold the memory card and slide it into the card slot until it clicks.

Remove the memory card: Ensure the camera is off. Push the edge of the memory card with your fingernail to remove it.

Note:

Format the memory card

Memory cards must be formatted before first use. This can be done in the camera via the VIOFO App or by long-pressing the [ ◄IREC ] button. Alternatively, format using a computer and the GUIFormat tool available at https://viofotech.com/download/guiformat.exe.

Note: Periodically formatting the card ensures optimal performance. Formatting erases all data, so back up important files beforehand.

Install the SSD (Optional)

1. Connect the SSD to the dashcam using the VIOFO Type-C SSD cable.

2. Secure the SSD in a suitable location inside the car, ensuring it doesn't obstruct the driver's view. The glove compartment is recommended for optimal temperature (0-60°C).

3. Choose to save recorded videos to the SSD immediately or set the file storage location later in dashcam settings.

Note:

Remove the SSD

Unplug the SSD cable from the dashcam. If a memory card is inserted, files will be saved to it. If no memory card is present, you will be prompted to insert one.

Install the Front Camera

  1. Select a mounting location on the windshield behind the rear-view mirror, ensuring it does not obstruct the driver's view.
  2. Wipe the installation surface clean and grease-free for proper adhesion of the sticky pad.
  3. Mount the dashcam using the sticky pad or the static sticker (refer to page 14).
  4. Peel off the protective film from the sticky pad and camera lens.
  5. Fix the camera securely in place.
  6. Adjust the Lens Angle by observing the live view on the LCD.
  7. Connecting to Power: Insert the car charger USB cable into the camera mount's Type-C port and plug the adapter into the vehicle's 12V/24V socket.

Install the Static Sticker (Optional)

  1. Clean the windscreen surface.
  2. Peel off the red protective film, attach the sticker to the windscreen, and press to remove bubbles.
  3. Peel off the green protective film.
  4. Peel off the sticky pad's protective film, attach the mount to the sticker, and press firmly.

Install the Rear Camera (Optional)

  1. Select an installation location on the windscreen, avoiding defrost grid wires, where the camera can capture the entire rear view.
  2. Wipe the installation surface clean with a dry cloth.
  3. Peel the protection film off the sticky pad and camera lens.
  4. Fix the rear camera in the selected location.
  5. Connecting with Rear Camera: Power off the dashcam and connect the rear camera cable to the front camera (main unit). Ensure proper cable routing as shown in the diagrams.

Remove Cameras

To remove the front camera, slide it to the right on its bracket and pull it out. For the rear camera, turn off the camera before plugging or unplugging the cable.

Tips for Installation:

Note: Do not install the camera or cables near an airbag panel or its working range, as the manufacturer is not liable for injuries related to airbag deployment.

Dash Cam Recording Operation

Initial Setup

Upon first activation, follow the on-screen prompts for language, time zone, and speed unit setup.

  1. Language Setting: Use [◄IREC] and [MICI►] buttons to select language, press [ A ] to confirm.
  2. Time Zone Setting: Use [◄IREC] and [MICI►] buttons to select time zone, press [ A ] to confirm. Use [ = ] to return to previous settings.
  3. Confirm Auto Time and Date Setup: Press [ A ] to confirm. The dash cam will automatically set time and date via satellite signal.
  4. Speed Unit Setting: Use [◄IREC] and [MICI►] buttons to select speed unit, press [ A ] to confirm.
  5. Format microSD Card: Select [ < ] and press [ A ] to format the memory card. The camera will restart after formatting.

Note: Settings can be modified anytime. Restoring to factory settings will re-trigger the initial setup.

Format External SSD

If an external SSD is connected, you can choose to format it and save videos. Formatting is recommended before first use.

Power On / Off

  1. The camera turns on and starts recording automatically when the engine starts.
  2. It stops recording and turns off when the engine is off or the charging cable is unplugged.
  3. Short press [ = ] button to power on.
  4. Long press [ = ] button to power off.

Loop Recording

  1. Insert a microSD card. Loop recording begins automatically when power is detected.
  2. Video file time frames: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 minutes.
  3. When space is insufficient, the oldest files are overwritten.
  4. Files are saved to: \DCIM\Movie.

Emergency Recording

  1. Automatic: Activated by G-sensor during a collision, locking the current footage.
  2. Manual: Press the [ A ] button during recording to lock the current file.

Note: Locked files are saved to microSD card: DCIM \ Movie \ RO.

Disable / Enable Audio Recording

Press the [ MICI► ] button once. The MIC LED will be off (off) or solid blue (on).

Parking Mode

Three options are available:

  1. Auto Event Detection: Records when motion is detected and stops when no new movement is detected.
  2. Time Lapse Recording: Records at low frame rates (1/2/3/5/10 fps) continuously without audio. The 1 fps mode supports Super Night Vision for better low-light performance.
  3. Low Bitrate Recording: Uses low bitrate for video and audio, resulting in smaller file sizes.

Note: Parking mode requires the VIOFO HK4 ACC hardwire kit for continuous power and battery protection.

View on a TV

Connect the dash cam to a monitor or TV using a Micro HDMI to HDMI cable. The Micro HDMI port supports resolutions from 1920x1080P up to 4K.

Playback and Manage Videos

Playback Video on Dashcam

  1. In standby mode, long press the [ A ] button to enter the playlist.
  2. Use [◄IREC] and [MICI►] buttons to select a video, press [ A ] to play.
  3. Press the [ = ] button to exit.

Playback Video on VIOFO APP

Enable Wi-Fi on the dash cam. Connect to the VIOFO app on your smartphone via Wi-Fi to control the camera, preview, play, and manage files.

Playback Video on PC

Via Memory Card:

  1. Remove the memory card (ensure the dash cam is off).
  2. Insert the card into a microSD card adapter or reader connected to your PC.
  3. Open the DCIM folder and play videos using VLC or another player.

Via External SSD:

  1. Remove the external SSD from the dash cam.
  2. Connect the SSD to your PC using the Type-C Data Cable.
  3. Open the DCIM folder and play videos using VLC or another player.

File Format Definition: Files are saved separately for front and rear cameras. 'F' denotes front camera, 'R' denotes rear camera, and 'P' denotes parking mode video.

Review and Control on Smartphone

Connect to Smartphone

The VIOFO app allows remote control of the camera, including full control, live preview, playback, and recording. The LED light on the camera turns solid blue when connected.

Android Device

Download the VIOFO app from Google Play or the APK from https://viofo.com/en/content/13-app/.

iOS Device

Download the VIOFO app from the App Store.

Connect VIOFO APP

Turn on Wi-Fi via the menu or by long-pressing the [ ? ] button. The Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password will appear on the camera's LCD screen.

APP Layout Overview

After connecting to the dash cam via Wi-Fi, open the VIOFO app and select "Connect your camera". The app provides:

Install Accessories

Install CPL on Front Camera

The CPL (Circular Polarizing Lens) reduces reflections and glare for improved image quality and more saturated video. Align the white mark on the CPL with the corresponding mark on the camera during installation.

Install CPL on Rear Camera (Optional)

Instructions for installing the CPL on the rear camera are provided visually.

Install Bluetooth Remote Control (Optional)

The Bluetooth Remote Control offers three buttons for safely locking videos, toggling Wi-Fi, enabling/disabling HDR, and other functions without diverting attention from the road.

Video Settings

Resolution:

Note: 4K resolution is 3840x2160P, 2K is 2560x1440P. 4K 21:9 is 3840x1600P, 2K 21:9 is 2560x1080P.

Video Bitrate:

Options: Low / Normal / High / Maximum. High bitrate improves video quality, especially for fast motion or high contrast scenes, but reduces recording time. Low bitrate saves space and allows for longer recording.

Loop Recording:

1/2/3/5/10 Minutes. Recording starts automatically with a microSD card. Old footage is replaced when storage is full.

Record Audio:

Turn the microphone on/off using the [ MICI► ] button.

Exposure Value (Front / Rear):

Adjust EV from -2.0 to +2.0 for better footage in various lighting conditions. Default is 0.0.

HDR (Front / Rear):

Options: Off / On / Auto HDR Timer. Auto HDR on the front camera enables Auto HDR for the rear camera. The HDR Timer follows the front camera's setting.

G-Sensor:

Measures shock forces to lock video files. Setting sensitivity from "low to high" determines the force needed. "Low" is recommended.

Stamp:

Imprint information on recorded video: Date, GPS Speed, GPS Coordinates, Custom Stamp, License Plate, Logo, Brand Model, Resolution, Stamp Text Color.

Note: Stamp text color can be changed to white/yellow/cyan/golden.

Time-lapse Recording:

Off / 1 / 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 fps. Records at specific intervals to conserve memory and reduce review time. Default is off.

Parking Recording:

Note: VIOFO HK4 ACC hardwire kit is recommended for parking mode recording.

System Settings

Wi-Fi:

Options: Off / 2.4GHz / 5GHz. Long press [ ? ] for 3 or 5 seconds to enable Wi-Fi. 5GHz is recommended.

Bluetooth Button Function:

Customize functions for the Bluetooth remote control's Mic and Action buttons:

Image Rotate & Mirror:

Rotate and mirror the rear camera image.

Custom Text Stamp:

Imprint custom text on recorded video.

License Plate Number:

Imprint the car number on recorded video.

Live Video Source:

Select display: Front Camera, Rear Camera, Rear Overlaid, or Front Overlaid.

Privacy Mode:

When enabled, the dash cam saves only the latest 2 (single-channel) or 4 (dual-channel) normally recorded video files.

Time Zone:

Set current time zone for GPS time and date calibration. Manual adjustment may be needed for daylight savings, except in the US.

Time Format:

Set system time format: 24H / 12H.

Daylight Saving:

Set US daylight saving on or off.

Date/Time:

Set system date and time.

Boot Delay:

Set boot delay: Off / 5 Seconds / 10 Seconds.

LED:

Control LED status: All Off / All On / Power LED Only.

Parking Mode LED:

Control LED status under Parking Mode: All Off / All On / Power LED Only.

Manage SSD Storage:

Backup MicroSD card files (last 24 hours/7 days/All) to SSD, or delete external SSD files.

Video Storage:

Choose storage: MicroSD Card / External SSD.

Beep Sound:

Control beep sounds: Off / Only Keytone / Only Boot Sound / All.

Voice Notification:

Turn voice notification on/off.

Voice Notification Volume:

Adjust volume: Low / Medium / High.

Voice Control:

Turn voice control on/off. When enabled, use spoken commands to control the camera (take photos, toggle Wi-Fi, start recording, etc.).

Note: Voice command language should match the dashcam's system language (English, Chinese, Russian, Japanese). For other languages, English is required for voice control.

Voice Command:

Issue commands like: Take Photo, Turn On Audio, Turn On Screen, Turn On Wi-Fi, Show Front Camera, Show Both Cameras, Video Start, Turn Off Audio, Turn Off Screen, Turn Off Wi-Fi, Show Rear Camera, Lock The Video.

GPS:

Turn on/off GPS logger to include location data in videos. Use "Dashcam Viewer" to visualize position and speed.

Speed Units:

Set speed units: Kilometer per hour (KMH) or miles per hour (MPH).

Screen Saver:

Adjust screen saver time intervals (default is 1 minute).

Video Out OSD:

Turn on/off on-screen display of icon information when connected to an external display via Micro HDMI.

Frequency:

Set to minimize flickering and banding in recorded video.

Language:

Set display language (English, Traditional Chinese, French, etc.).

Format:

Choose to delete all data on MicroSD Card or External SSD.

Note: Formatting erases all data permanently. Back up necessary files before formatting.

Format Reminder:

Set reminders for formatting: Off / 15 / 30 / 60 Days.

Default Setting:

Restore device to factory settings.

Version:

Check current firmware version.
