3. Preparation for Installation
If a CPU cooler is already installed on the motherboard, it must first be removed along with its mounting hardware. Subsequently, the CPU should be cleaned of old thermal paste.
Before installation, apply fresh thermal paste evenly to the CPU.
For a first-time installation of the HEATKILLER® IV, access to the back of the motherboard is required (not applicable for Socket 2011). If your computer case does not have a suitable cutout, you may need to remove the motherboard for the initial mounting. This is not necessary for subsequent mounting procedures.
? For further information on disassembling the cooler, the motherboard, and the case, please refer to the respective manuals.
4. Orientation Information
The HEATKILLER® IV has no predefined orientation on the CPU. Depending on the motherboard layout, all four orientations should be possible: logo left (vertical), logo right (vertical), logo on top (horizontal), and logo at the bottom (horizontal).
✔️ The alignment of the block has almost no impact on cooling performance and may be chosen freely if installation is possible.
? On INTEL Sockets 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1200, and 1700, horizontal alignment is usually not possible. Only a few motherboards are compatible.
? On AMD Sockets, the motherboard designs typically allow vertical installation only.
? The HEATKILLER® IV was developed to ensure easy ventilation during all installed alignments. When mounted in a regular tower case, the easiest way for maintenance ventilation is to turn the cooler so that the logo faces down-right (4 o'clock).
5. EasyMountSystem Information
The Watercool EasyMountSystem was developed to provide very easy mounting and accurate contact pressures, which are strictly defined by CPU manufacturers. The contact pressure strictly follows the specifications of the respective CPU manufacturer.
To ensure optimal surface pressure, tighten the studs and knurled nuts evenly and crosswise. Furthermore, ensure that a metal washer is always placed between the spring and the mounting bracket on every socket. A plastic washer must be placed between the motherboard and the stud. The latter does not apply to Socket 2011, 2011-3, and 2066.
6. Installation on INTEL Sockets
6.1. Socket 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1200, 1700 (without backplate)
Install all mounting parts according to the following sketch.
✔️ Make sure to use the correct washers at the determined positions. Tighten all knurled nuts and studs evenly and crosswise!
6.2. Socket 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1200, 1700 (with backplate, strongly recommended for LGA1700)
Install all mounting parts according to the following sketch.
✔️ Make sure to use the correct washers at the determined positions. Tighten the studs and knurled nuts evenly and crosswise! The backplate is delivered ready to mount. Before mounting, please verify that the isolation material and washers are present.
6.3. Socket 2011, 2011-3, and 2066
Install all mounting parts according to the following sketch.
✔️ Make sure to use the correct washers at the determined positions. Tighten all studs evenly and crosswise!
7. Installation on AMD Sockets
7.1. Socket AM4
Install all mounting parts according to the following sketch.
✔️ Make sure to use the correct washers at the determined positions. Tighten all knurled nuts and studs evenly and crosswise!
7.2. Socket AM5
Install all mounting parts according to the following sketch.
✔️ Make sure to use the correct washers at the determined positions. Tighten all knurled nuts and studs evenly and crosswise!
8. General Information
The HEATKILLER® IV series has a defined inlet and outlet. The inlet is located in the center of the block.
We recommend using demineralized or deionized water (distilled water) with a suitable corrosion inhibitor additive as fluid. We have had good experiences with Mayhems X1, Innovatek Protect, or Aquacomputer Double Protect.
9. Converting to a different socket
Your HEATKILLER® IV can be retrofitted for a different socket. Separate conversion kits are available for this purpose.
By unscrewing the four screws on the bottom side of the block, you can remove the holding brackets. Replace them with the brackets from your conversion kit. Make sure that the seals are intact and in their grooves! Tighten the screws crosswise evenly until end stop.
