Alpha EMCOMM Antenna Operating Manual

Version 1.4, August 3, 2020

Overview

The Alpha EMCOMM is a 10 to 80 meter capacity hat antenna rated at 250W PEP SSB, 125W CW, or 25W digital.

Operation

The EMCOMM Antenna is an ultra-portable multiband and multipurpose HF antenna that fits in an included Field Bag. This system requires no moving clips on coils or readjusting of whips for tuning. An integrated leveling bubble enables precise spatial alignment of all elements, resulting in equal take-off angles. An external antenna tuner may also be used if the antenna is installed over a poor ground or not placed in a clear area.

Excess RF Exposure Warning

In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission has established guidelines for human exposure to Radio Frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields. The commission's requirements are detailed in parts 1 & 2 of the FCC's rules and regulations {47 CFR, 1.1307(b), 1.1310, 22.1091, 2.1093}. It is the responsibility of the owner/operator of this device to follow all applicable warnings and precautions regarding human exposure to RF fields. Assembly

  1. Locate and assemble the Alpha Match and Tripod: Screw the Alpha Match onto the Tripod (A), taking care not to cross-thread either one.
  2. Locate and install the four black 26 inch MilStick elements, and screw each hex nut onto the bolts (B).
  3. Locate the 12 foot Counterpoise wire & secure the ring connector over the bolt (C) with the loose hex nut.
    • Proper placement of the 12 foot Counterpoise is so that it is run above one of the tripod legs; otherwise, the system will tip over. This is a Counterpoise, so please ensure this wire slopes away from the antenna and isn't laid on the ground, before staking.
    • Extend the Counterpoise and place the stake into the ground. The Counterpoise enhances pattern in the direction it is run, and an NVIS pattern in the opposite direction.
  4. Locate and install the one black 26 inch MilStick element, to the top bolt of the Alpha Match (D to D).
  5. Extend the Legs (E) on the Tripod, and secure each with the locking mechanism.
  6. Rotate the Crank (F) till the mast is fully extended & tighten the set screw.
  7. Connect your coax to your equipment first and then to the SO239 ensuring that the coax does not coil up on itself or touch the elements.

OPTIONAL GUYING: At the user's discretion, user-supplied guy ropes can be placed at the base of the extended mast (Ref. 'F').
