Chapter 2: Overview
Avaya J100 Expansion Module Overview
The Avaya J100 Expansion Module extends the number of call appearances and feature buttons on Avaya J169/J179 IP Phones, and adds contacts to button labels. Call appearances and features displayed on the expansion module also appear on the phone's corresponding lines.
? Note: If the Avaya J100 Expansion Module is attached to an Avaya J169 IP Phone, the display screen changes to grayscale.
If one expansion module is attached, it provides 72 additional lines (24 per page) for incoming/outgoing calls, autodialing, features, and applications. If two or three modules are attached, each provides 24 additional lines.
Button Modules and Lines
Button modules | Calling lines / Features / Applications | Switching between pages |
---|---|---|
1 | 72 (24 on each page) | Yes |
2 | 24 | No |
3 | 24 | No |
The Avaya J100 Expansion Module can be placed in two stand positions or a wall mount position with the phone.
? Note: The wall mounting bracket for the Avaya J100 Expansion Module should be ordered separately, along with the wall mounting kit. Refer to the "Installing and Administering Avaya J100 Series IP Phones" guide for wall mounting instructions.
Up to three expansion modules can be attached to an Avaya J169/J179 IP Phone. Only one module can be attached to a phone using PoE. For two or three modules, a power supply unit is required.
Important Information
⚠️ Important: Hot plugging is not supported on the Avaya J100 Expansion Module. Connect all Avaya J100 Expansion Modules to the phone before connecting the phone to a power source.
Physical Layout
The expansion module has the following components:
- 1. Line buttons with integrated LEDs: Used for receiving calls, answering calls for other extensions, or accessing features. LEDs synchronize with phone LEDs. Green indicates an incoming call or enabled feature; red indicates the line is in use or disabled.
- 2, 4. Left and Right page buttons: Used to switch to a different active page.
- 3. Active page LEDs: Three LEDs indicating the active page. Note: The indication changes if only one module is attached; if two or three are attached, the first LED is lit permanently.
Avaya J100 Expansion Module Icons
The expansion module uses the icons of the phone model it is attached to. ? Note: Icons are grayscaled on the Avaya J169 IP Phone. Refer to your phone's user guide for more information.
Expansion Module Update Indication
Firmware upgrades are indicated in the phone's Administration menu, Network information menu, or by an "Upgrade notification" on the expansion module. Once downloaded, a message "This device will be out of service for 3 minutes to apply the update" appears. Press a line button for "Apply now" or "Apply tonight".
? Note: When an upgrade notification is displayed, the screen saver is disabled and the backlight remains on.
