Product Overview
The MotionProtect Curtain is a wireless, curtain-type motion detector designed for indoor perimeter control. It features a narrow horizontal detection angle, making it ideal for protecting windows, doorways, and other entry/exit points of a guarded facility. The detector offers a maximum motion detection distance of 15 meters.
It integrates seamlessly into Ajax security systems, communicating with a hub via the secure Jeweller protocol. This wireless connection can extend up to 1,700 meters line-of-sight. The device is powered by a pre-installed battery that provides up to 3 years of autonomous operation. Setup and notifications are managed through an iOS or Android app, which can alert users via push notifications, SMS, or calls.
Ajax systems can also connect to a central monitoring station of a security company.
⚠️ Connection to ocBridge Plus and uartBridge integration modules is not provided.

The device is depicted as a sleek, white, vertical unit with a distinctive light filter at the top and side panels.
Operating Principle
MotionProtect Curtain utilizes two IR sensors to detect intrusions. It identifies moving objects with a temperature close to that of the human body. When the system is armed, the detector polls its IR sensors. Upon detecting motion, it instantly sends an alarm state to the hub, indicated by a flashing green LED on the device. The hub then triggers sirens and notifies the user and the security company.
ℹ️ Motion alarms are sent every 5 seconds.
To minimize false alarms, the detector features Correlation Signal Processing, which can be enabled in the settings. When active, it only sends an alarm state if both IR sensors register identical motion signals. If disabled, an alarm state is sent even if only one IR sensor is triggered.
For more details, see: What is correlation signal analysis and how does it work.
Pairing the Detector with a Hub
Before pairing, ensure the following:
- Turn on your hub and verify its Internet connection (via Ethernet and/or GSM).
- Install the Ajax application on your smartphone, create an account, add your hub, and set up at least one room.
- Check the hub's status in the app to confirm it is disarmed and not updating.
⚠️ Please note that only a user with admin permissions can add devices to the hub.
Pairing Steps:
- In the Ajax mobile app, tap 'Add device'.
- Name the device. Scan the QR code located on the back of the detector or its packaging, or enter the code manually. Select the room for placement and tap 'Add'. A countdown will begin.
- Turn on the detector by holding its power button for 3 seconds.
For detection and pairing to occur, the device must be within the hub's wireless coverage. The connection request is sent to the hub once the device is powered on. If the MotionProtect Curtain fails to connect within 6 seconds of turning on, it will power down automatically; no manual power-off is needed to retry. If the detector was previously paired with another hub, turn it off and follow the standard pairing procedure.
After successful pairing, the detector will appear in the hub's device list. The frequency of status updates depends on the hub's polling interval setting (36 seconds by default). If the detector senses movement before the system is armed, it will not trigger an immediate alarm but will report it during the next polling cycle.

Integrity Testing
Ajax security systems allow running tests to verify the integrity of connected devices. Tests typically start instantly or within 36 seconds by default, depending on the detector polling interval setting.
Detector Placement
Effective security system performance relies on proper detector placement. When installing the MotionProtect Curtain, consider the direction of the light filter and potential obstacles that might affect its field of view and radio signal transmission. The detection range and beam width are critical factors; incorrect placement can lead to false alarms or improper operation.
Detection Angles and Range
The detector has a narrow horizontal angle of view (6°) and a wide vertical angle (90°).
Diagrams illustrate the detection patterns:
- A horizontal view diagram shows a narrow beam (6°) extending up to 15 meters, with a vertical spread.
- A vertical view diagram shows a wider beam (90°) originating from a height of 2.4 meters, extending up to 15 meters horizontally.
Detection range | Beam width |
---|---|
3 meters | 0.3 meters |
6 meters | 0.6 meters |
9 meters | 0.9 meters |
12 meters | 1.25 meters |
15 meters | 1.55 meters |
Installation Guidelines and Restrictions
⚠️ The device is developed only for indoor use.
Do not install the detector:
- Outside the premises (outdoors).
- In front of windows within reach of direct sunlight.
- Opposite objects that rapidly change temperature (e.g., electric and gas heaters).
- Opposite moving objects with temperatures close to the human body (e.g., curtains swaying above a heating radiator).
- In places with fast air circulation (near fans, open windows, or doors).
- Near metal objects and mirrors that can cause signal attenuation or interference.
- In premises with temperature and humidity beyond the permitted range.
- Closer than 1 meter to a hub.
If interference causes false alarms and alternative placement is impossible, enabling Correlation Signal Processing in the settings can help. Note that enabling this feature may reduce the motion detection range depending on the chosen sensitivity.
Sensitivity | Motion detection range w/ Signal Correlation Processing * | Motion detection range w/o Signal Correlation Processing * |
---|---|---|
Low | Up to 6 m | Up to 11 m |
Normal | Up to 7 m | Up to 13 m |
High | Up to 8 m | Up to 15 m |
*at an ambient temperature of 23°C
Optimal Placement Advice
To ensure accurate detection, avoid situations where the detector identifies movement at longer distances than required. Installing the detector within an enclosed space, such as an archway, is recommended, as this ensures it triggers only for individuals entering the space.
To prevent false alarms from domestic animals, install the detector upside down, leaving space below the detection zone for animals to move freely.
The detector's placement also depends on the distance to the hub and potential obstacles (walls, floor, large objects) that could hinder radio signal transmission.
Check the signal strength at the chosen location. A signal level of one bar may compromise system stability. Moving the device even by 20 cm can improve the signal. If the signal remains low or unstable, consider using a radio signal range extender.
ℹ️ The detector's light filter should be directed perpendicularly to the expected entry path to the room!
Ensure that furniture, plants, vases, decorative items, or glass structures do not obstruct the detector's field of view.
⚠️ We recommend installing the detector at a height of 2.4 m!
Installing the detector at a different height will narrow the detection zone and affect motion detection quality. The MotionProtect Curtain cannot detect movement behind glass, so avoid placing it where glass structures might block its view, such as near an open window.
Detector Installation
Before installation, confirm the chosen location aligns with the manual's recommendations. MotionProtect Curtain can be installed in two ways:
- Directly to a surface.
- Using the included bracket.
The installation process involves attaching the SmartBracket panel or bracket to the surface using the provided screws or other reliable fasteners. Then, attach the detector to the SmartBracket panel and secure it with a screw.
Important Note: Double-sided adhesive tape is intended only for temporary installation. It can dry out over time, potentially causing the detector to detach and leading to false alarms or damage.
If the detector's LED does not illuminate after attachment, check the tamper status in the Ajax app and ensure the detector is securely fitted to the attachment panel. Detaching the detector from the surface or panel will trigger a notification.
⚠️ After installation, run the Detection Zone Test. If incorrect operation is detected, the detector needs to be relocated.
Detector Care and Battery Replacement
Regularly check the MotionProtect Curtain detector's integrity. Clean the detector body from dust, spider webs, and other contaminants using a soft, dry cloth suitable for equipment care. Avoid using cleaning agents containing alcohol, acetone, gasoline, or other active solvents. Wipe the lens gently; scratches may reduce the detector's sensitivity.
The pre-installed battery provides up to 3 years of autonomous operation (at a 3-minute polling interval). If the battery is low, the security system will send a notification, and the LED will light up and go out when motion or tamper is detected.
