CardStudio™ Tech Note: Using the Software License Manager

Introduction

To use CardStudio, the provided Activation Key must be authenticated via a one-time connection with the License Manager over the Internet. Depending on your system configuration, there are three activation options and one deactivation option available.

  1. Activate your License Key with direct Internet access
  2. Activate your License Key without direct Internet access
  3. Activate your License Key via Proxy Server with direct Internet access
  4. Deactivate your License Key

1. Activate your License Key with direct Internet access

Product Activation

Follow these steps to activate your CardStudio license using a direct internet connection:

  1. After installing the CardStudio software, locate the Zebra CardStudio icon on your desktop and double-click it to start CardStudio.
  2. The first time you launch CardStudio after installation, the "CardStudio - Software License" window will appear.
  3. Select the "Activate CardStudio" radio button and click the "OK" button.
  4. The "CardStudio License - Activate" window will then appear.
  5. Enter your 18-digit license code into the "License Number" text box and click the "Activate" button.

Product Registration

After successful activation, you will be prompted to register your product.

  1. Upon activation, the first "Registration" pop-up will appear. Click "Yes" to register or log in.
  2. When the second "Registration" pop-up appears, click "No" to create a new account.
  3. The "Register Product" window will open. Fill in the required information. Fields marked with arrows are mandatory. Click "OK" to proceed.
  4. A "Success" pop-up will appear; click "OK".
  5. An "Information" pop-up will appear; click "OK".
  6. A "Confirm" pop-up will appear; click "Yes" to restart CardStudio.
  7. The installation and registration process is now complete, and your CardStudio software is ready for use.

2. Activate your License Key without direct Internet access

? NOTE: For this section, you will need a portable storage device; e.g., a flash drive.

At the computer with CardStudio installed:

  1. After installing the CardStudio software, navigate to Windows Start > All Programs > Zebra Technologies > CardStudio, and select "License Manager".
  2. The "CardStudio License - Activate" window will appear.
  3. Observe the "Import Certificate (Offline Activation)" section within the License Manager.
  4. Copy the "Installation ID" to your portable storage device (e.g., a flash drive).

At a computer with direct Internet access:

  1. Go to the following URL: https://www.softwareactivationservice.com/default.aspx?c=3356
  2. Observe the "Software Activation Center" web page.
  3. Enter the "Installation ID" (pasted from your storage device) and your 18-digit "License Number".
  4. Check the "I have read and agreed to the terms and conditions" box, and click the "Generate Unlock Code/Certificate" button.
  5. Observe the generated unlocking code/certificate.
  6. Copy the unlocking code/certificate to your portable storage device.
  7. Close the "Software Activation Center" web page.

  2. Enter (paste) the unlocking code into the "Activation Certificate" text box and click the "Import" button.
  3. An "Information" pop-up will appear stating "Product Successfully Unlocked!". Click "OK".
  4. The installation process is complete. Your CardStudio software is now ready to use.

3. Activate your License Key via Proxy Server with direct Internet access

❗ IMPORTANT: For this section, you may need to contact your System Administrator for assistance.

This method is necessary if the License Manager cannot communicate with the License Key Server due to specific network environment settings.

  1. After installing the CardStudio software, navigate to Windows Start > All Programs > Zebra Technologies > CardStudio, and select "License Manager".
  2. The "CardStudio License - Activate" window will appear.
  3. Observe the "Advanced" section in the License Manager.
  4. Select the "Use a proxy server to activate" checkbox.
  5. Enter the "Proxy Server name or address", "Port", "Username", and "Password" into the corresponding text boxes, and click the "Save" button.
  6. Enter your 18-digit license code in the "License Number" text box and click the "Activate" button.
  7. An "Information" pop-up will appear stating "Product Successfully Unlocked!". Click "OK".
  8. The installation process is complete. Your CardStudio software is ready to use.

4. Deactivate your License Key

❗ IMPORTANT: This section describes how to deactivate your License Key via direct Internet access. For other system configurations, contact Zebra Technical Support.

Deactivation allows you to return your license to the server for storage and re-use.

  1. Go to Windows Start > All Programs > Zebra Technologies > CardStudio, and select "License Manager".
  2. Observe the "CardStudio License - Deactivate" window.
  3. Enter your 18-digit license code in the "License Number" text box and click the "Deactivate" button.
  4. An "Information" pop-up will appear stating "License Successfully Returned!". Click "OK".
  5. The deactivation process is complete.
