Principles of Operation
Modern homes often use "Green" techniques and energy-saving systems that reduce utility bills but can limit fresh air introduction. Without ventilation, stale air, and contaminants from cleaning, painting, and attached garages can persist indoors for extended periods.
Your Aprilaire ventilation controller introduces fresh air and circulates it throughout your home continuously to combat the effects of trapped stale air. The ventilation rate is determined by your home's size and the number of occupants. This controller provides a reliable method for automatically supplying fresh air.
The controller monitors indoor humidity and outdoor temperature, operating based on timer settings adjusted to your preferences, local codes, or ASHRAE 62.2-2010 guidelines. It prevents outside air intake if it would significantly increase indoor humidity. The controller has an upper humidity limit of 55% RH when the outdoor temperature is above 50°F. It can also prevent ventilation in extreme high or low temperatures. Consult your installing contractor to enable or disable these limits.
Note: Ventilation will not occur if the air inlet is clogged with debris. Regular cleaning is required.
Setting Instructions
The ventilation controller is installed in the return duct of your furnace or heat pump. The primary user-adjustable setting is the ventilation time per hour. For example, setting the knob to 20 minutes results in 20 minutes of ventilation each hour. Ventilation occurs during heating and cooling cycles. If the heating or cooling system does not initiate ventilation, the controller will activate the furnace blower to provide the set ventilation time.
Dial Description
The dial is marked in 10-minute increments but can be set to any estimated value within a 5-minute accuracy. Your installer likely pre-set this according to your home's size and occupant count. If you wish to adjust it, turn the knob a maximum of 5 minutes in either direction. Allow the new setting to operate for 24 hours before making further adjustments.
The dial features markings for: OFF, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 Minutes Per Hour.
Test/Reset Function
The TEST/RESET setting is used to verify proper installation. Activating this setting runs the controller for 1 minute. Do not leave the knob in the TEST/RESET position.
