Advanced Product Features

100% Jam Proof System

Eliminates frustrating jams by preventing overloads and powering through misfed paper.

Technical Explanation: The sheet capacity indicator lights show when too many or too few sheets are fed. If too many sheets are fed (red light ?), the shredder will not operate. Reduce the sheet quantity. If misfed, the shredder automatically adjusts to power through or reverse out the paper.

Patented SafeSense® Technology

Stops shredder immediately when hands are too close to the paper entry.

Technical Explanation: The shredder stops automatically and the indicator light illuminates when hands are too close to the paper entry. It resumes normal operation when hands are no longer near the entry. A flashing indicator warns when SafeSense® technology has been shut off.

SilentShred™ Technology

Provides whisper-quiet, efficient shredding performance without noisy disruptions.

Technical Explanation: The SilentShred™ motor ensures quiet operation.

Important Safety Instructions

Read Before Using!

  • Keep away from children and pets. Keep hands away from the paper entry. Always set to OFF (0) or unplug when not in use.
  • Keep foreign objects (gloves, jewelry, clothing, hair, etc.) away from shredder openings. If an object enters the top opening, switch to Reverse (◀️) to back out the object.
  • Never use aerosol products, petroleum-based lubricants, or other flammable products on or near the shredder. Do not use canned air.
  • Do not use if damaged or defective. Do not disassemble. Do not place near heat sources or water.
  • Ensure the Disconnect Power Switch (G) is in the ON (I) position for operation. In an emergency, move the switch to OFF (0) to stop the shredder immediately.
  • Avoid touching exposed cutting blades under the shredder head.
  • Rotate the CD flap entry for shredding CDs/cards. Keep fingers away from the CD hole. The Jam Proof System is disabled when the flap is in the CD position.
  • Do not insert foreign objects into the paper entry.
  • The grounded socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.

Basic Set Up and Shredding Operation

Caster Installation

Steps:

  1. Unpack shredder.
  2. Attach casters to the base of the shredder. (Illustrations show wheels being inserted into the base).

Paper or CD/Card Shredding

Steps:

  1. Plug in the shredder and set the Disconnect Power Switch (G) to ON (I).
  2. Press the ON/OFF button (Q) to activate (blue light ?).
  3. Feed paper straight into the paper entry and release.
  4. To shred CDs, rotate the CD flap into place.
  5. Hold a CD/card by the edge and feed it into the CD/Card flap entry and release.
  6. When finished shredding, set the power switch to OFF (0).

Continuous Operation: Maximum 20 minutes. The shredder runs briefly after each pass to clear the entry. Continuous operation beyond 20 minutes requires a 40-minute cool-down period.

100% Jam Proof System Operation

Eliminates frustrating jams by preventing overloads and powering through misfed paper.

Set-up and Testing:

  1. Feed paper into the paper entry and release.
  2. If too many sheets are fed, the indicator light will turn red ?, and the shredder will not take the paper. Remove several sheets until the indicator is below red, then the shredder will take the paper.
  3. If the indicator is below yellow, you can add more sheets without fear of jamming. Increase the number of sheets fed up to the top yellow light to maximize productivity.

Misfed Paper:

  1. If paper is misfed and stops shredding, all indicator lights will illuminate, and the shredder will pause for 3-6 seconds.
  2. An automatic correcting action will power through the misfed paper, allowing shredding to continue (do not add more paper during this flashing period).
  3. If there is too much paper for the shredder to power through, it will reverse the paper out for easy removal.
  4. If the "Remove Paper" icon (?) is illuminated, press Reverse (◀️) and remove the paper.
  5. Reduce paper quantity to an acceptable amount and refeed into the paper entry.

SafeSense® Technology Operation

Stops shredder immediately when hands are too close to the paper entry.

Set-up and Testing:

  1. Turn the shredder ON (Q) to activate SafeSense®.
  2. Touch the test area and look for the SafeSense® indicator (M) to illuminate yellow ?.
  3. SafeSense® is now active and working properly.

Advanced Product Feature Maintenance and Troubleshooting

100% Jam Proof System

Eliminates frustrating jams by preventing overloads and powering through misfed paper.

Disabling the Feature:

  1. To disable SafeSense®, press and hold the Auto button (O) and the Reverse (◀️) key simultaneously.
  2. Once disabled, the blue Auto light (O) will no longer be illuminated. (To re-engage, repeat step 1).
  3. Shredding can continue with the system disabled, but a paper jam may occur if too many sheets are fed, and the "Remove Paper" icon (?) will illuminate.
  4. If a jam occurs, press and hold the Forward (▶️) key until the document is completely through the shredder.
  5. If the jam is not cleared, press Reverse (◀️) briefly. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the paper is shredded.
  6. If steps 4 and 5 do not clear the jam, reverse the paper all the way out, remove several sheets, and refeed.

Basic Product Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Cleaning Auto-Start Infrared Sensors

Paper detection sensors are designed for maintenance-free operation. However, dust can block sensors, causing the motor to run even without paper. Two sensors are located in the center of the paper entry.

To Clean the Sensors:

  1. Turn off and unplug the shredder.
  2. Lift the CD flap.
  3. Locate the auto-start infrared sensors.
  4. Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol.
  5. Using the cotton swab, wipe away any contamination from the paper sensors.

Preventive Maintenance and Miscellaneous Troubleshooting

  • Run the shredder once a day in reverse for 15 seconds to clear the cutters.
  • Empty the wastebasket when the "Bin Full" indicator light (?) is illuminated. Recommended bag: #36052.
  • The shredder will not function if the pull-out bin is not fully inserted or needs emptying.
  • When shredding for prolonged periods, the motor may become warm and require a cool-down period. The overheat indicator (?) will alert you; this model requires 40 minutes to cool down.
