Prepare your NovoPen® 6 or NovoPen Echo® Plus
Follow these steps to prepare your insulin pen for use.

Remove the cartridge holder
Pull off the pen cap. Twist off the cartridge holder. If the piston rod sticks out, push it in until it stops.
Insert new cartridge
Slide a new insulin cartridge into the cartridge holder with the threaded end first. Twist the cartridge holder back on.
Attach a new needle
Tear off the paper tab. Push the needle straight onto the pen and turn until tight. Pull off both needle caps, saving the outer needle cap.
Inject
Follow these steps for injecting your dose.

Test the insulin flow
Select 2 units and press the dose button until the dose counter shows 0. The test is complete when insulin squirts and there is no gap between the piston rod head and the piston.
Select your dose
Pull out the dose button. Ensure the dose counter shows 0. Turn the dose button to select the required dose.
Inject your dose
Insert the needle. Press the dose button until the dose counter shows 0. Count slowly to 6 [wait 1-2-3-4-5-6] before removing the needle. Safely remove and dispose of the needle. Replace the pen cap.
Check your last dose

Pull out the dose button
Ensure the dose counter shows 0 before starting.
Push the dose button back in
The dose memory will now display the details of your last dose.
Read your dose memory
The display shows the units injected and the time elapsed since injection. For example: 12 units injected 1 hour, 52 minutes, and 3 seconds ago.
Keep a personal injection log
If you have a smartphone, tablet, personal computer, or blood glucose monitor that supports Near Field Communication (NFC) [?], you can easily transfer your insulin dosing information from your pen to your device. Download a compatible app or software to read and display this information. The NFC location may vary by phone model.

NovoPen® 6 & NovoPen Echo® Plus are intended for patients who have been prescribed a Novo Nordisk® insulin cartridge.
