2009 Hyundai Accent L4-1.6L: Manual Transmission (M5CF1) Repair Procedures
This document outlines the removal and installation procedures for the M5CF1 manual transmission/transaxle of a 2009 Hyundai Accent with a 1.6L engine.
Removal Procedures
CAUTION: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces. To avoid damage, unplug wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE: Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid mis-connection.
- Remove the battery (A) after removing the battery terminal.
- Remove the intake air hose and air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect the air flow sensor connector (A).
- Disconnect the air cleaner hose (D) from the bleeder hose (B).
- Remove the intake air hose and air cleaner upper cover (C).
- Disconnect the ECM connectors (A, B).
- Remove the air cleaner element and lower cover (C).
- Remove the battery tray (A).
- Remove the ground cable from the transaxle (A).
- Remove the transaxle wire harness connectors and control cable from the transaxle.
- Remove the tube bracket (A) from the transaxle.
- Remove the two bolts (A) of the bracket holding the flexible hose.
- Remove the clutch release cylinder (A).
- Remove the transaxle control cable (A).
- Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (A).
- Disconnect the back lamp switch connector (B).
- Remove the under cover (A).
- Remove the two side cover nut (A).
- Disconnect the power steering return hose (A) to drain power steering oil.
- Remove the bolt connecting the universal joint and the pinion shaft.
- Remove the transaxle upper mounting bolts from the engine.
- Remove the transaxle mounting support bracket (A).
- Using the SST (09200-38001), hold the engine and transaxle assembly safely.
- Disconnect the lower arm assembly from the knuckle. (see DS group)
- Disconnect the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle after removing the split pin. (see DS group)
- Disconnect the stabilizer bar link. (see SS group)
- Remove the front roll stopper mounting bolt. (see ST group)
- Remove the rear roll stopper mounting bolt. (see ST group)
- Remove the exhaust pipe mounting rubber (A) from the sub frame.
- Remove the sub frame. (see ST group)
- Remove drive shaft from transaxle.
- Remove the two cable bracket bolts (A).
- Remove the engine start motor mounting bolts (A).
- Remove the transaxle lower mounting bolts (A).
- Remove the transaxle assembly by lifting the vehicle.
CAUTION: When removing the transaxle assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
Installation Procedures
Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Perform the following:
- Adjust the shift cable.
- Refill the transaxle with fluid.
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant.
- Bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
- Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with sandpaper, assemble them, and apply grease to prevent corrosion.
- Lowering the vehicle or lifting up a jack, install the transaxle assembly.
- Install the transaxle lower mounting bolts (A).
- Install drive shaft to transaxle.
- Install the sub frame. (see ST-group)
- Install the exhaust pipe mounting rubber (A) to the sub frame.
- Connect the power steering return hose (A).
- Install the rear roll stopper mounting bolt. (see ST-group)
- Install the front roll stopper mounting bolt. (see ST-group)
- Connect the stabilizer bar link. (see SS-group)
- Connect the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle after removing the split pin. (see DS-group)
- Connect the lower arm assembly from the knuckle. (see DS-group)
- Install the bolt connecting the universal joint and the pinion shaft.
- Install the under cover (A).
- Install the two side cover nut (A).
- Install the transaxle upper mounting bolts from the engine.
- Install the transaxle mounting support bracket (A).
- Remove the SST (09200-38001).
- Install the engine start motor mounting bolts (A).
- Install the two cable bracket bolts (A).
- Install the transaxle wire harness connectors and control cable to transaxle.
- Connect the back lamp switch connector (B).
- Connect the vehicle speed sensor (A).
- Install the transaxle control cable (A).
- Install the clutch release cylinder (A).
- Install the two bolts (A) of the bracket holding the flexible hose.
- Install the tube bracket (A) from the transaxle.
- Install the ground cable to transaxle (A).
- Install the battery tray (A).
- Install the intake air hose and air cleaner assembly.
- Install the air cleaner element and lower cover (C).
- Connect the ECM connectors (A, B).
- Install the intake air hose and air cleaner upper cover (C).
- Connect the air cleaner hose (D) from the bleeder hose (B).
- Connect the air flow sensor connector (A).
- Install the battery (A) after installing the battery terminal.
