Wire Your Switch
Before You Start:
- Wiring Knowledge: Understand Neutral, Ground, Line (Live/Hot), and Load wires. Consult an electrician if unsure.
- Requirements: Separate load wires for fan and light, a neutral wire, single-pole wiring (not 3-way compatible), and support for AC motor speed control fans (under 60W).
- Tools: Phillips and slotted screwdriver, pliers, wire strippers, voltage detector, insulated gloves.
- Wi-Fi Strength: Ensure strong Wi-Fi signal at the installation location.
Wiring Steps:
- Turn Off Power: Turn off the light and fan, and the circuit breaker. Confirm power is off with a voltage detector. Remove the wallplate.
- Pull Out Old Switch: Unscrew and pull out the old switch. Test wires with a voltage detector.
- Identify Wires: Label Ground and Neutral wires. Identify Line, Fan Load, and Lighting Load wires based on color and existing marks. Take a photo of the wiring.
- Identify Line Wire: Turn on the circuit breaker. Use a voltage detector to find the energized wire (Line wire). Turn off the breaker and label it.
- Identify Load Wires: Turn on the light switch and circuit breaker. Use a voltage detector to identify the light load wire. Turn off the breaker and light switch. Label the energized wire as Lighting Load and the other as Fan Load.
- Remove Old Switch: Disconnect wires from the old switch and connect them to the smart switch, ensuring each wire is secure.
- Install Smart Switch: Align the smart switch with mounting holes, secure with screws, ensure the UP arrow on the back points up, and attach the wallplate. Turn on the circuit breaker.
Set Up Your Switch via Kasa
- Install Kasa Smart app: Download from Google Play or the App Store, or scan the QR code.
- Log in or sign up: Open the Kasa Smart app and log in with your TP-Link ID. Create an account if needed.
- Add Device: In the Kasa Smart app, tap '+', select 'Add a Device' > 'Smart Switches' > 'Fan Control & Dimmer Switch', and follow the app instructions.
Set Up Your Switch via HomeKit
Before You Start:
- Ensure your iPhone/iPad is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Your iPhone/iPad, HomeKit device, and Apple home hub (if any) must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Use the latest iOS or iPadOS version for best performance.
- Find the HomeKit QR code or numeric code on the device or packaging.
How to Set Up:
- Factory reset your Smart Switch.
- Open the Apple Home app.
- Scan the HomeKit QR code or enter the numeric setup code. If the device is already added to the Kasa app, find the HomeKit setup code in 'Device Settings' > 'Device Info'.
- Follow the app instructions to complete setup.
Failed to Set Up?
- Factory reset the Smart Switch and restart your phone.
- Move your iPhone/iPad and the smart device closer to the router for a stronger Wi-Fi signal.
- HomeKit setup is disabled 10 minutes after the device is powered on. Power cycle the switch and try again.
- Creating a new home in the Home app can help.
- Refer to https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/3390/ for troubleshooting.
