NOTIFIER NFS-320C Intelligent Addressable Fire Alarm System

General

The NFS-320C intelligent Fire Alarm Control Panel is part of the ONYX® Series of Fire Alarm Controls from NOTIFIER. In stand-alone or network configurations, ONYX Series products meet virtually every application requirement. The NFS-320C's modular design makes system planning easier. The panel can be configured with just a few devices for small building applications, or networked with many devices to protect a large campus or a high-rise office block. Additional peripheral equipment can be added to suit the application. For example, certain geographic regions such as Canada have specific LED annunciation requirements. To provide up to 48 zones/points in the same cabinet, an optional ACM Series annunciator can be added (sold separately).

FlashScan, Exclusive World-Leading Detector Protocol

The NFS-320C utilizes the FlashScan protocol (U.S. Patent 5,539,389), an all-digital protocol offering superior precision and high noise immunity. It provides quick identification of active input devices and can activate many output devices rapidly. This high speed enables the NFS-320C to support the largest device per loop capacity in the industry (318 points), with every input and output device sampled in under two seconds. FlashScan detectors feature bicolor LEDs that can be coded for diagnostic information, such as device address during Walk Test.

ONYX Intelligent Sensing

Intelligent sensing employs software algorithms for industry-leading smoke detection. These complex algorithms, made possible by the NFS-320C's high-speed microcomputer, perform numerous calculations on each detector reading. Drift Compensation and Smoothing allows detectors to maintain original smoke detection ability and resist false alarms as dirt accumulates, reducing maintenance by automating periodic sensitivity measurements required by NFPA 72. Smoothing filters remove transient noise signals. Maintenance Warnings alert users when drift compensation reaches levels that may compromise performance, with three warning levels: Low Chamber value, Maintenance Alert, and Maintenance Urgent. Sensitivity Adjust offers nine levels for alarm detection, which can be set manually or change automatically between day and night. Nine levels of pre-alarm sensitivity are also available. Pre-alarm operation can be latching or self-restoring and can activate special control functions. Self-Optimizing Pre-Alarm allows detectors to learn their normal environment and set pre-alarm levels just above peak readings. Cooperating Multi-Detector Sensing allows smoke sensors to consider readings from nearby sensors for alarm decisions, potentially increasing sensitivity to actual smoke by a factor of two.

Field Programming Options

Autoprogram: A timesaving feature where the FACP learns connected devices and automatically loads default parameters. It runs in under a minute, enabling immediate fire protection in new installations.

Keypad Program Edit (with KDM-R2): Allows program creation and editing directly from the front panel keypad while the system continues to provide fire protection. Each point carries its own program, including control-by-event links.

VeriFire® Tools: An offline programming and test utility that reduces installation programming time and increases confidence. This Windows®-based tool offers advanced capabilities for creating, testing, and backing up panel programs before downloading to the panel.

Placement of Equipment in Chassis and Cabinet

Guidelines are provided for flexible system design. Wiring separation for power-limited and non-power-limited circuits is critical. All mounting holes must be secured with screws or standoffs for Earth Ground continuity. For networking multiple control panels, Network Communication Modules or High-Speed Network Communication Modules are required.

Configuration Guidelines

The NFS-320C system ships assembled. Stand-alone and network systems require a main display; the panel's keypad serves this role for stand-alone systems. Network systems require at least one NCA-2, NCS, or ONYXWorks annunciation device.

Main System Components

The standard NFS-320C includes: control panel on chassis (120 V operation), integral power supply, KDM-R2 keypad/display, and a cabinet for surface or semi-flush mounting. Batteries are purchased separately. Up to two option boards can be mounted in the NFS-320 cabinet.

NFS-320C-FR: French language version.

TR-320: Trim ring for the NFS-320C cabinet.

Auxiliary Power Supplies and Batteries

Compatible power supplies include ACPS-610 (6.0 A or 10.0 A) and FCPS-24S6C/8C (remote 6 A and 8 A). The NFS-320 uses two 12-volt, 18 to 200 AH batteries (BAT Series). Batteries over 26 AH require a separate cabinet.

Audio Options

NFC-50/100: 25-watt, 25 VRMS, emergency Voice Evacuation Control Panel (VECP) with integral microphone, digital message generator, and Class A or Class B speaker circuits.
