Data Transfer via Main Body Buttons

When using the CL-200A with the included Data Management Software CL-S10w, measurements can be taken and data transferred to Excel® using the device's main body buttons or computer keys.

Excel® Add-in Software Included

This easy and convenient Excel® add-in allows measurement data from the CL-200A to be transferred directly into Excel®. The transferred data can then be managed freely within Excel®.

Includes LED Ranking Function

Color variations, a significant factor in the LED industry, can be quantified, and a ranking function is provided.

JIS Correlated Color Temperature

Correlated color temperature is determined using equations defined by JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards).

Multi-Point Measurement and User Calibration

Multi-point measurement management is supported for up to 30 receptor heads. The user calibration function allows compensation of measurement values to match a desired standard. Calibration can be performed using either single-point calibration or RGB calibration methods.

Applications

For Lighting Production and Adjustment

When working with various light sources in a room or open space, checking the color of the lighting is often necessary. The CL-200A enables adjustment of lighting color to achieve desired effects, such as enhancing the appearance of food in a restaurant.

[Diagram Description: Image depicts a cityscape with illuminated buildings and traffic lights, suggesting diverse lighting environments.]

For Evaluating Light Source Characteristics

The distribution of light from LED illumination modules or lighting fixtures can be evaluated for illuminance.

[Diagram Description: A graph shows illuminance (Ix) plotted against height (m) and horizontal distance (m), illustrating light distribution patterns.]

For Color-Viewing Cabinet Maintenance

Color-viewing cabinets, used in industries like printing for visual evaluation under controlled conditions, require precise illuminance and color temperature. The CL-200A assists in the daily maintenance and control of lamps within these cabinets, signaling when lamp replacement is needed.

For Projector Light-Source Research and Color Inspection

The CL-200A can measure the white balance and uniformity of microprojectors, particularly those with internal LED light sources. By connecting multiple receptors via LAN cables, measurements can be taken at up to 30 points across the projected area, not just at the center.

For LED Billboard Development and Maintenance

The CL-200A facilitates quality control for LED modules used in digital signage. It helps ensure billboard uniformity by measuring the chromaticity and color temperature of modules, allowing for selection that prevents a mottled appearance.

Technical Details and Accuracy

Accurate Measurements of Color Temperature

Accurate illumination color temperature measurement is particularly important for light sources with non-continuous spectrums, such as LEDs. The CL-200A is capable of measuring color temperature accurately.

The CL-200A features sensors that closely match the CIE color-matching functions, enabling precise color measurement. Measurement results can be displayed in various color notations, such as "Correlated color temperature and \u0394uv," depending on the application.

Photographic color meters, used to select appropriate filters for compensating light color, may yield significant errors when measuring light sources with non-continuous spectrums. This is because they rely primarily on the blue/red balance of illumination and their sensor sensitivity is adjusted to match film or digital camera sensors.

Color Temperature and Correlated Color Temperature Explained

Color Temperature: When an ideal blackbody is heated, it emits light that changes color from red to yellow to white as its temperature increases. This color is expressed as the absolute temperature of the blackbody in Kelvin (K). For example, a 7000K color corresponds to the light emitted by a blackbody heated to 7000K. The curve representing these colors on an xy chromaticity diagram is called the "blackbody locus." Color temperature expresses a color on this locus.

Correlated Color Temperature: The color of white light emitted by illumination equipment and displays is often close to the blackbody locus. While normally expressed using "color temperature," these light sources may not fall directly on the blackbody locus. Correlated color temperature provides a method for similar color expression for colors within a region close to the blackbody locus. To accurately express this, the correlated color temperature and the difference from the blackbody locus (\u0394uv) are stated.

[Diagram Description: Figure 1 shows the blackbody locus on an xy chromaticity diagram. Figure 2 is a close-up of the blackbody locus, illustrating the correlated color temperature region.]

*Blackbody: An ideal radiator that completely absorbs all incident electromagnetic radiation. Although a perfect blackbody does not exist, coal serves as a familiar example of a similar object.

LED Manufacturing Process and Systems

Measurements in the LED Manufacturing Process

White Light from Blue LED and Phosphor: White light is produced by mixing blue light from an LED with yellow light from a phosphor.

Problem: Variations in the spectral emission distribution of individual LEDs can lead to inconsistencies in the resulting white light. Controlling color mixing is essential, especially when multiple LEDs are used.

General Solution:

  1. Measure the spectral emission characteristics of each LED element and rank them accordingly.
  2. Measure the emission characteristics of the phosphor and rank them accordingly.
  3. Combine the ranked LED elements and phosphor materials to achieve the desired white light.
  4. Inspect the output light quality of the final assembled white LED lamp.

How the CL-200A Can Help: The CL-200A can measure the chromaticity from the phosphor and inspect the output light quality of the final assembled white LED lamp.

[Diagram Description: A schematic illustrates the process of creating white light from blue LED and phosphor, including a spectral emission graph and an image of an LED array.]

LED Total Flux Measurement System

This system integrates the Spectroradiometer CS-2000 (modified for illuminance measurement) with an LED total flux measurement adapter. It utilizes a spectral measuring instrument conforming to CIE 122-1996 as the receptor. The total flux emitted in all directions by the LED is diffused by an integrating sphere and then received for measurement by the spectroradiometer.

The system conforms to CIE 127:2007.

The receptor's spectral response closely matches the CIE spectral luminous efficiency function V(λ), eliminating the need for complex color correction.

To ensure accurate measurements, a self-absorption compensation function is included to correct for the reduction in integrating sphere output caused by self-absorption of the light source when it is lit inside the sphere.
