Frico Elztrip EZ200
Original Instructions
Introduction and Ecodesign Regulation
The Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2015/1188 concerning local space heaters does not apply to all application areas. It applies when an installation is intended to provide thermal comfort for people in the premises. The regulation does not apply to heating installations of a more technical nature (e.g., in engineering/utility rooms, production processes, frost protection) or to installations in vehicles, offshore, or outdoors.
Frico products can be used as both local space heaters and for technical heating purposes. The installer is responsible for assessing whether the Ecodesign Regulation applies. Control solutions for installations not covered by the regulation are listed separately.
Application
The Elztrip EZ200 is a radiant cassette with a sleek design that integrates well with electrical equipment. It is suitable for integral or supplementary heating, and for protection against cold drafts near windows in locations such as department stores, multi-purpose halls, and assembly workshops. The recommended installation heights are indicated in the introductory pages. The product has an IP44 protection rating.
Operation
When in operation, the cassettes reach temperatures of approximately 320°C and emit heat via radiation to cooler surfaces. The maximum ambient temperature is +30°C.
Mounting
The Elztrip can be suspended, mounted horizontally on ceilings, on support rails, or on cables. Standard fixings are supplied within the connection box. For suspended mounting, four suspensions per cassette are required. The distance between panels should not exceed the height between the panel and the floor (distance 'a' must be less than height 'H'). Consult introductory pages for minimum distances.
Mounting Steps:
- Determine the cassette's position on the ceiling.
- Bend the bracket tabs to approximately 90° (refer to Fig. 1.1, 1.2).
- Mount the brackets with the specified spacing (refer to page 4 illustration) onto the ceiling or a cable (Fig. 1.3). For cable mounting, install the bracket at the top of the cable.
- Mount the unit according to Fig. 1.4, starting from one end and then assembling the other.
- Ensure all screws are tightened correctly.
- For cable mounting, use clips to prevent the cassette from sliding.
Diagram Description (Fig. 1. Mounting): Shows the mounting brackets and how they attach to the unit and a surface (ceiling or cable). It illustrates the bending of brackets and the attachment of wires/cables.
Positioning and Minimum Distances
Proper positioning ensures optimal heat distribution. The diagram (Fig. 2) illustrates the relationship between mounting height (H), distance from the wall (a), and recommended clearance (Δh = 1.5 - 2 m). The effective heating range is typically 3-10 meters.
Minimum distances to flammable materials are crucial for safety. The diagram (Fig. 3) details these clearances (B, C, D, E) as specified in the table.
Diagram Description (Fig. 2. Positioning): Illustrates the recommended height and horizontal clearance for mounting the Elztrip unit, showing the heat distribution cone.
Diagram Description (Fig. 3. Minimum distances): Shows a side view of the unit with dimensions indicating required clearances from flammable materials.

Wiring Diagrams
The document includes various wiring diagrams illustrating different control configurations for the Elztrip EZ200 units. These diagrams show how to connect the heating cassettes with thermostats, relay boxes, black bulb sensors, and presence detectors for both 230V and 400V systems. They also detail connections for installations not covered by the Ecodesign Regulation, using thermostats and contactors.
Diagram Types Illustrated:
- Control by thermostat (230V and 400V).
- Control by thermostat and relay box (230V and 400V).

Safety and Maintenance
Safety Precautions:
- Read all instructions before installation and use.
- Ensure the product is used only as per instructions.
- A 300 mA residual current device (RCD) should be used for fire risk protection.
- Never cover the appliance; overheating can cause fire.
- Do not place the appliance directly below a fixed wall socket.
- Do not use if damaged.
- The cable and plug must not be in the radiation zone.
- Children aged 8 and over, and persons with reduced capabilities, can use the appliance if supervised or instructed.
- Keep children under 3 away from the appliance unless supervised.
- Children aged 3-8 can operate the appliance if supervised and instructed.
- Certain parts can become very hot and cause burns; exercise caution with children and vulnerable persons.
Maintenance:
- Disconnect power before any maintenance.
- Wait for the appliance to cool down completely.
- The appliance has no moving parts; minimal maintenance is required for cleaning dust and dirt.
- Slight noises during initial use or due to thermal expansion/contraction are normal.
- Use clean gloves when handling. Ensure the product is clean before starting.
- Aerosols, lacquers, solvents, and dust can cause deposits and discoloration, which is normal and does not affect performance.
Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCD) Issues: If an RCD trips, it may be due to humidity in the heating element, especially after prolonged storage in a damp environment. This is not a fault. It can be remedied by temporarily connecting the appliance to mains power via a socket without an RCD to dry the element. This may take several hours to days. Periodic short operation is recommended to prevent this.
End of Life: This product contains necessary but potentially environmentally hazardous substances. It must not be disposed of with household waste but taken to an approved collection point for recycling.
