Installation with Lower Anchor Connector Assembly
WARNING: To avoid strangulation hazard, store unused lower anchor connector assembly with slack removed in storage area on the back of the seat. Roll or fold excess strap and secure with a rubber band.
The lower anchor connector assembly comes in two types (A and B), with different adjuster mechanisms for loosening.
IMPORTANT: If using the vehicle seat belt, DO NOT use the lower anchor connector assembly.
- Disconnect tether hook and lower anchor connectors from the back of the child restraint.
- Place the child restraint in position on the vehicle seat in a forward-facing position. Lay the tether strap over the back of the vehicle seat.
- Attach lower anchor connectors. Attach one connector onto each lower anchor bar. Ensure connectors are facing upward and harness straps are not twisted.
- Secure the child restraint. Use full weight, push restraint firmly into the vehicle seat while pulling up on the lower anchor connector assembly strap to tighten.
IMPORTANT: Restraint MUST NOT move more than 25 mm (1 in) side-to-side or front-to-back at the belt path. If you cannot secure it tightly, try again or move it to another location.
Installation with Seat Belt
IMPORTANT: If using the vehicle seat belt, DO NOT use the lower anchor connector assembly.
- Disconnect tether hook from the back of the child restraint.
- Place the child restraint in position on the vehicle seat in a forward-facing position. Lay the tether strap over the back of the vehicle seat.
- Route vehicle seat belt through belt path and buckle it.
- Remove all slack from the seat belt. Push downward on the child restraint while tightening the seat belt.
- Install Locking Clip (not included), if necessary. This is required for vehicles built prior to model year 1996 with a lap/shoulder belt equipped with an emergency locking retractor (ELR) and sliding latch plate. Check your vehicle owner's manual. Vehicles from 1996 or newer likely have a lockable belt system. Consult your owner's manual before installing a locking clip. If a locking clip is required, contact ParentLink for instructions.
WARNING: Remove Locking Clip when not used with a child restraint, or the seat belt will not properly restrain an adult or child. DO NOT use a Locking Clip in booster mode.
- Ensure child restraint is secure. Try to move it in all directions.
IMPORTANT: Restraint MUST NOT move more than 25 mm (1 in) side-to-side or front-to-back at the belt path. If you cannot secure it tightly, try again or move it to another location.
The Tether Strap adjustment types (A and B) are shown.
- Connect and tighten tether strap. Connect the tether hook to the anchor behind the vehicle seat and pull the strap to tighten securely.
IMPORTANT: If your tether strap is too short, contact ParentLink for a Tether Extender.
Securing the Child
- Loosen harness. Press the harness release button and pull harness straps.
- Position harness straps. Unfasten chest clip. Place child in restraint. Bring harness straps over child's shoulders.
- Buckle the harness. Insert buckle tongues into the buckle. Pull up on harness straps to ensure secure fastening.
- Fasten and adjust chest clip. Snap halves together and slide to armpit level.
- Tighten harness. Pull harness adjuster strap. Check for slack by trying to pinch the harness straps near the shoulders. You should NOT be able to pinch slack. Adjust as needed.
IMPORTANT: Child's back and bottom should be flat against the restraint. If there is a gap, the child will not be comfortable.
IMPORTANT: A snug strap should not allow slack, lie in a straight line without sagging, and not press on the child's flesh or push the body into an unnatural position.
Removing the Child
- Loosen harness straps. Press release button and pull straps outward.
- Disconnect chest clip. Push release button and pull clip apart.
- Unbuckle harness. Press red button on buckle and release tongues.
Positioning the Harness Strap
- Loosen harness straps. Press release button and pull straps.
- Remove both Harness Straps from the Splitter Plate and pull them through to the front of the seat.
- Move harness strap. Remove straps from slots and feed into new slots, pulling to the back of the restraint. Straps must be at shoulder level or closest position slightly above.
- Attach Harness Straps to Splitter Plate. Attach the loop at the end of each harness strap onto the splitter plate.
IMPORTANT: Ensure harness straps are routed correctly through seat pad and shell slots.
IMPORTANT: Make sure both harness straps are installed completely on the splitter plate.
Positioning the Crotch Strap
As your child grows, change the crotch strap position to the slot closest to your child. The crotch strap should ALWAYS be as close as possible to, but NEVER under, the child's bottom.
- Remove Crotch Strap. Loosen harness straps, move them aside. Push anchor up through the slot to the top of the seat.
- Insert Crotch Strap into new slot. Insert anchor into the slot closest to the child, but NEVER under the child's bottom. Pull the anchor through the seat and adjust so it lies flat. Ensure it is secure.
When to Put Your Child in a Booster Seat
Booster seats help position the vehicle lap and shoulder belt correctly, reducing the risk of injury. The lap belt should be low on the hips, and the shoulder belt across the middle of the shoulder. If the child leans out or moves the belt behind their back or under their arm, it will not provide intended restraint.
Consider a booster seat if:
- The child is mature enough to sit properly without putting belts under their arm or behind their back.
- The child is approaching the weight or height limit of their current restraint.
- Your vehicle lacks a tether anchorage but has lap/shoulder belts, where a booster may offer better protection than an internal harness without a tether.
How is a booster seat used?
- Read manuals for both booster seat and vehicle.
- Place booster in the back seat with a lap and shoulder belt. Never use with only a lap belt.
- After child is in booster, pull lap and shoulder belt across them and buckle.
- Check that the shoulder belt lies across the middle of the shoulder and the lap belt is low on the hips.
Using as a Booster Seat
Child Requirements
- Weight: 18 – 49.8 kg (40 – 110 lbs)
- Height: 110 – 145 cm (43.3 – 57 in)
- Tops of the child's ears are at or below the top of the child restraint headrest
- Age: At least 4 years old
IMPORTANT: Once your child exceeds size requirements for belt-positioning use, discontinue use. Your child may be ready for the vehicle belt system only.
Important: Always secure the booster seat with lower anchor connectors or vehicle seat belt when unoccupied. An unsecured booster seat can injure occupants.
Booster Installation Checklist
- Convert child restraint to booster seat (see p. 32).
- Secure booster seat to the vehicle seat. Ensure bottom and back are touching vehicle seat and back. Level booster seat (Canadian models only, p. 37). You may use tether strap and lower anchor connectors if they do not affect seat position or belt fit.
- Place the child in the booster seat. Ensure child's back and bottom are flat against the seat.
- Secure child and booster seat to vehicle seat. Stretch lap/shoulder belt across child and fasten. Shoulder belt MUST be routed properly (p. 36). Ensure belts are threaded under the red lap belt guide (Canadian models only).
- Check your work. Ensure lap belt is low and snug across hips, within belt guides, and fastened. Shoulder belt must cross midway between shoulder and neck.
WARNING: The shoulder belt MUST NOT cross the child's neck or fall off the shoulder. If you cannot adjust it properly, try another location or do not use the booster seat.
? To make installation easier, watch the installation video at www.evenflo.com.
Converting into a Booster Seat
- Loosen harness. Press release button and pull harness straps. Disconnect chest clip.
- Remove both Harness Straps from the Splitter Plate and pull them through to the front of the seat.
- Disconnect all J-clips and Retaining Strips, then remove the Seat Pad.
- Route the Harness Straps through Adjustment Slots, then attach to Splitter Plate.
- Tuck the Chest Clip and Buckle Tongues into the recesses on either side of the seat shell.
- Remove the Crotch Strap. Locate anchor on the bottom, turn sideways, and push through the seat shell.
- Install the seat pad.
IMPORTANT: Make sure both harness straps are installed completely on the splitter plate.
Your child restraint is now in Booster Mode and ready for a child meeting the following requirements:
- Weight: 18 to 49.8 kg (40 to 110 lbs)
- Height: 110 to 145 cm (43.3 to 57 in.) and tops of the child's ears are at or below the top of child restraint headrest
- Age: At least 4 years old
Note: To convert back to 5-point harness mode, reverse these steps.
Shoulder Belt Routing While in Booster Mode
While in booster mode, the shoulder belt must be routed over the child's shoulder.
- The belt must pass under the headrest, between the headrest and seat, if the child's shoulders are at or below the opening between the headrest and shell.
- If the child's shoulders are high, causing the belt to be pulled down the back side of the shoulder (before passing through the headrest), the belt should not be routed between the seat and headrest.
- If shoulder height causes the belt to route behind the back, and the top of the ears are still at or below the headrest top, the shoulder belt should be routed on top of the headrest.
General Information
Leveling the Booster Seat
Canadian Models Only
If the level line is not parallel to the ground, place a tightly rolled towel/small blanket beneath the bottom rear of the booster seat before fastening to the vehicle seat.
Installing the Cup Holders
Not available on all models.
Place each cup holder onto the seat, turn the seat over, and secure with a screw. Do not over tighten. Ensure each cup holder is attached securely.
Removing Seat Pad
- Loosen harness. Press release button and pull harness straps. Disconnect chest clip.
- Remove both Harness Straps from the Splitter Plate and pull them through to the front of the seat.
- Disconnect all J-clips and Retaining Strips, then remove the Seat Pad.
- Disconnect all Retaining Strips, then remove the Seat Pad.
- Pull headrest pad off the headrest.
Note: To convert back to 5-point harness mode, reverse these steps.
Securing Your Child Restraint in Aircraft
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recommends securing your child for air travel in an appropriate child restraint based on weight and size. Turbulence can occur without warning. The safest place for your child during turbulence is in a properly installed child restraint, not an adult's lap or on the aircraft seat with its seat belt.
FAA recommendations for child weight:
- More than 18 kg (40 lbs): use an aircraft seat belt.
- Less than 9 kg (20 lbs): use a rear-facing child restraint.
- From 9 to 18 kg (20 to 40 lbs): use a forward-facing child restraint.
* FAA recommendations may vary from motor vehicle use.
IMPORTANT: This child restraint can only be used with a 5-point harness in aircraft. It cannot be used in booster mode.
Installing Child Restraint in Aircraft
IMPORTANT: Before installing, ensure the aircraft seat is in a fully upright position.
- Place the child restraint in position. Place on the aircraft seat forward-facing.
- Route aircraft seat belt through belt path. Route the belt through the belt path opening in the back and through the opening on the opposite side.
- Fasten the aircraft seat belt, then remove all slack. The belt must be as tight as possible. Route excess strap back through the belt path opening. Push restraint firmly onto the seat while pulling on the strap to tighten.
- Check your work. Reconnect seat pad. Try to move restraint in all directions. If it moves more than 25 mm (1 in) at the belt path, the seat belt is not tight enough; install again.
- Secure Your Child in the Child Restraint. Refer to page 22.
? Lift the restraint's seat pad away for easier access.
Note: For child comfort, consider cushioning the child's back over the belt buckle with a pillow or folded blanket/jacket.
Care and Cleaning
- DO NOT lubricate or immerse LATCH connectors, buckle, or other parts in water unless rinsing is permitted (check back of buckle).
- Plastic and metal parts: wipe clean with mild soap and water, dry with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Take care not to damage labels.
- Harness: wipe clean with mild soap and water. Allow to air dry.
- Seat pad: machine wash separately in cold water, delicate cycle. Tumble dry 10-15 minutes on low heat.
- NEVER use child restraint without the seat pad.
- To protect from damage during storage (weather, rodents, etc.), remove seat pad, clean restraint and pad thoroughly, paying attention to areas where crumbs/debris accumulate.
