Important Safety Information
WARNING - Seizures
Approximately 1 in 4000 individuals may experience seizures or blackouts triggered by light flashes or patterns, common in video games, even without a prior history. Consult a doctor before playing if you or your child have a history of seizures, loss of awareness, or other epilepsy-related symptoms. Parents should supervise children during gameplay and stop immediately, consulting a doctor if any of the following symptoms occur: convulsions, eye or muscle twitching, altered vision, loss of awareness, involuntary movements, or disorientation.
To reduce seizure risk:
- Sit or stand as far from the screen as possible.
- Use the smallest available television screen.
- Avoid playing when tired or needing sleep.
- Play in a well-lit room.
- Take a 10 to 15 minute break every hour.
WARNING - Repetitive Motion Injuries and Eyestrain
Prolonged video game play can cause muscle, joint, skin, or eye discomfort, potentially leading to tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, skin irritation, or eyestrain. To prevent these issues:
- Avoid excessive play; parents should monitor children's playtime.
- Take a 10 to 15 minute break every hour.
- When using the stylus, avoid gripping it tightly or pressing hard against the screen, as this can cause fatigue or discomfort.
- If hands, wrists, arms, or eyes become tired or sore, stop playing and rest for several hours. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.
WARNING - Battery Leakage
The Nintendo DS contains a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Leakage or combustion of battery ingredients can cause personal injury and damage to the Nintendo DS. If leakage occurs, avoid skin contact; wash thoroughly with soap and water. If liquid contacts eyes, flush immediately with water and seek medical attention.
To prevent battery leakage:
- Do not expose the battery to excessive physical shock, vibration, or liquids.
- Do not disassemble, attempt to repair, or deform the battery.
- Do not dispose of the battery pack in fire.
- Avoid touching battery terminals or causing a short circuit with a metal object.
- Do not peel or damage the battery label.
WARNING - Radio Frequency Interference
The Nintendo DS emits radio waves that can affect nearby electronics, including cardiac pacemakers. Do not operate the Nintendo DS within 9 inches of a pacemaker while using the wireless feature. If you have a pacemaker or other implanted medical device, consult your doctor or the device manufacturer before using the wireless feature. Follow all regulations for wireless device use in locations like hospitals, airports, and aircraft, as operation may cause interference or malfunctions.

Tutorial
The game begins with a tutorial led by the Alien from Toy Story. This section teaches gameplay basics, controls, interaction methods, voice commands, and how to earn points and gold. Players can revisit the tutorial at any time.

Guardian Points
Earn Guardian points by interacting with your Disney Friends. Accumulating points unlocks more Friends, adventures, and items, and increases your Guardian rank. Reaching daily goals provides special bonuses. Players start as Junior Guardians and can advance to Master Guardian, earning special Guardian pins that can be traded in Multiplayer Trading mode. Meeting Friends' needs (tiredness, hunger, boredom, loneliness) earns points.
Guardian Lounge
The Guardian Lounge is the central hub for accessing game areas: Tinker Bell's store, the Alien's tutorial, the Trophy Room, Multiplayer, and unlocked Disney Friends' worlds. Each Friend has an access door. In Tinker Bell's room, players can view pictures, set alarms, view credits, and summon Tinker Bell to buy items or upgrade the lounge. Lounge upgrades include wallpaper, carpet, curtains, and plants.
Guardian Lounge Upgrades
As your Guardian rank increases, you receive upgrades to customize the Guardian Lounge. Select items like walls, carpet, curtains, and plants to personalize the space. Touch an item for details and drag it to the upgrade window to apply it.
Tinker Bell's Store
Purchase items for your Friends at Tinker Bell's store using in-game gold. Items include snacks and accessories to keep Friends happy. Touch an item to view details and click "Buy Item Now" to purchase.
Trophy Room
View your pin collection, special gifts, and trophies earned in the Trophy Room.
Pins
Friends reward players with pins for earning Guardian points. Pins can be collected, with multiple versions of each available, and traded in Multiplayer Trading mode. Access your pin collection via the noteboard in the Trophy Room.
Gifts
When Friends are in a good mood, they may give gifts. Performing well in the game earns trophies. Both gifts and trophies are stored in the Trophy Room.
Inventory
Items purchased from Tinker Bell's store are stored in your inventory on a per-Friend basis. Items associated with Stitch are available when interacting with Stitch, and so on. Access other Friends' items via the Guardian Lounge. To use an item, touch its icon in the inventory tab to bring it into your Friend's world, then drag it to give to your Friend. Pick up items by touching and dragging them to your inventory tab or by double-touching.
Collectibles
- Gold: Earned by completing adventures and winning multiplayer competitions. Gold can also be found hidden in the game. Use gold in Tinker Bell's store for items.
- Accessories: Used to dress up Friends, potentially increasing Guardian points based on their response to the outfit. Purchase from Tinker Bell's store.
- Mouse Ears: Collecting all Mouse Ears for a Friend unlocks a special accessory for that Friend. Collecting all Mouse Ears in the game unlocks a special object in the Guardian Lounge.
Interacting with Your Friends
Interact with Friends using the stylus to tap, rub, tickle, or poke them. Use the microphone for voice commands. Touch the microphone icon or hold the X Button and speak a command. A list of commands is available via the Speech Tab. Successful commands that meet Friends' needs or make them happy earn Guardian points.
Adventures and Activities
Engage in activities and go on adventures with your Friends daily. Adventures involve exploring locations, finding gold and hidden objects, meeting characters, and playing mini-games. Gold collected can buy special items. Each adventure location is unique to a Friend's world. Some map areas may be locked until more Guardian points are earned.
Photos
Take pictures of your Friends, with daily photo opportunities. Press the Y Button to enter photo mode, use the +Control Pad for angles, and press Y again to take the photo. Press B to exit. Photos are stored in slots and can be traded in Multiplayer. Delete old photos to make space for new ones.
Guardian Points Goal
A daily Guardian points goal exists. Reaching it grants a bonus, and sometimes Friends give drawings that form a larger image when collected. These are saved in the scrapbook in Tinker Bell's store. You can continue playing to earn more points after reaching the goal.
Fulfilling Needs
Friends have four basic needs: tired, hungry, bored, or lonely. Fulfilling these needs earns Guardian points. Address tiredness with a nap, hunger with a snack, boredom with play or toys, and loneliness with affection (rubbing, tickling, speaking). Playing games or going on adventures also entertains bored Friends and can earn gold for items.
Friend Status/Options Menu
Press START during interaction to access the Pause menu and Friend Status menu. The Friend Status screen shows your Friend's mood, your Guardian Level, Global Guardian Points, Gold, and Mouse Ears. If a Friend's mood is low, visit Tinker Bell's store for items. The Snapshots Tab lets you view and delete photos. The Options Tab allows adjusting sound volumes, erasing saved games, and setting the alarm clock.
Activities
Participate in various activities with your Friends. Access the Activities Tab to select an activity. The Music activity allows players to create music by placing notes on a staff, adjusting pitch and tempo. Touch the play button to have your Friend perform the song, and the save button to save it.
Duo-Painting
Create pictures with Friends using the Painting Tab. Use drawing tools and a color palette. Your Friend will add to the drawing when the "Friend Draw Button" is touched. Save one drawing per Friend; these are displayed in the Guardian Lounge.
Signature Activities
Each Friend has a unique signature activity. Access it via the Activities Tab to earn Guardian points and make Friends happy.
Adventures
Embark on adventures to earn Guardian points, find gold, hidden objects, meet characters, and play mini-games. Gold can be used to buy items. Adventure locations are specific to each Friend's world. Some map areas require more Guardian points to unlock.
Passage of Time
The game's clock syncs with your Nintendo DS system's clock, reflecting real-world time, day/night cycles, and seasons. Specific days of the week are special for each Friend, and they acknowledge holidays and birthdays.
Alarm Clock and Sleep Mode
Closing the DS lid puts the game into Sleep mode, pausing gameplay. An alarm can be set to wake your Friend at intervals. Access the alarm settings via the Options menu or Tinker Bell's store. Specify which Friend wakes you by visiting their world before entering Sleep mode.
Multiplayer
Disney Friends supports both DS Wireless and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for multiplayer gameplay. Access Multiplayer from the Guardian Lounge by selecting the DS icon.
- Local Wireless: Connect with DS players nearby. You can host or join games, choosing game features.
- Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection: Connect with players worldwide. Options include "Play Now" (random or friend challenges), "Friend Setting" (registering Friend Codes), and "WFC Setting" (setup).
Joining a Game
Connect to existing sessions or host your own. Play Guardian Challenge (multiple mini-games) or trade items with other players.
Guardian Challenge
Compete against other Guardians in three rounds of mini-games. The winner earns gold and Guardian points. Winning against a higher-ranked Guardian yields more points.
Single Challenge
Play a single mini-game against an opponent for quicker fun and fewer rewards than Guardian Challenge.
Multiplayer Mini-Games
- Dance Partner: Match your Friend's dance moves by timing touches to the rhythm. Score points based on accuracy.
- Friend Drawing: Recreate a Disney Friend's drawing within a time limit. Accuracy determines the winner.
- Digging: Be the first to find a hidden gem by directing your Friend to dig in dirt piles. Tap rocks to break them.
Trading
Trade gold, pins, inventory items, and photos with other players using the Guardian Connection. Some items are unique (tent, record player) and cannot be traded if the other player already possesses them. Multiple copies of food and pins can be traded. Photo trades require an open photo slot.
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Details
