Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

• Read all instructions before using the appliance.
• Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
• To protect against electric shock, do not immerse cord, plug, or appliance in water or other liquid.
• Press the red switch on the side of the unit to the 'O' (off) position and unplug from outlet when not in use or before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized Oster® Service Center for examination, repair, or adjustment.
• The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Oster® may result in fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
• Do not use outdoors or for commercial purposes.
• Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
• Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
• To disconnect, turn controls to 'off' position, then remove plug from wall outlet.
• Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
• Place on a flat, level surface to prevent air flow interruption beneath the appliance.
• Ensure the water tank is pushed completely into the unit with the lid closed and filled with water above or at the minimum line before turning on the appliance.
• Do not remove the portafilter while brewing coffee. Ensure all three lights are on before removing the portafilter to make coffee again. Be cautious when removing the portafilter as metal parts will be hot. Hold by the handle and use the filter retention hook to discard used ground coffee. Be cautious when moving the unit with hot liquids.
• Do not remove the water tank until the unit is off.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
• Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near disabled persons or children.
• This appliance is not designed to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.
• This appliance is intended for household use and similar applications such as: staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments; farm houses; clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments; bed and breakfast type environments.
