Attaching and Detaching the Lens
- Remove the rear lens cap. Align the lens mounting index 10 on the lens with the mounting index on the camera and then attach the lens.
- Rotate the lens in the direction of the arrow until it locks.
- To detach the lens, rotate the lens in the opposite direction while pressing the lens release button on the camera.
- Turn off the camera before attaching or detaching the lens.
- For details, please read your camera's instruction manual.
Switching to Focus Mode
Select the desired focus mode on the camera. For manual focusing, achieve the desired focus by rotating the focusing ring.
For details, please read your camera's instruction manual.
- In AF mode, it may be difficult to operate depending on the subject for autofocus.
VC MECHANISM
The VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism reduces image blur caused by hand-shake.
Using VC
- To activate VC, set the camera's steady shot function to "ON" on the camera. Set the steady shot function to "OFF" if VC is not required.
- Press the shutter button halfway and confirm that the frame is steady before taking a picture.
- VC is effective under the following conditions:
- Dim locations
- Places where flash photography is prohibited
- Places where a tripod cannot be used
- VC may not perform sufficiently under the following conditions:
- When the picture is taken from a vehicle with excessive vibration
- When shooting while the camera is moving excessively
- When shooting using a tripod
- Disable the steady shot setting on the camera when shooting photos while the camera is stabilized by something other than your hand (such as a tripod). Otherwise, VC may cause a malfunction.
- When shooting with Bulb photography (long exposure), disable the steady shot setting on the camera. Otherwise, VC may cause a malfunction.
- The frame may become blurry immediately after pressing the shutter button halfway. This is due to the principles of VC and not a malfunction.
- The total number of recordable images decreases when using VC due to the camera's power consumption.
- The lens may make a rattling sound when the camera is off or the lens is removed from the camera. This is not a malfunction.
- For details, please read your camera's instruction manual.
ZOOMING (Refer to Fig. 1)
Rotate the zoom ring to adjust the focal length (zoom position) to the desired position.
LENS HOOD (Refer to Fig. 2, 3)
The bayonet type lens hood 1 is supplied as standard equipment. We recommend shooting with the lens hood attached properly as the lens hood eliminates stray light that is likely to affect the image.
Attaching the Lens Hood (Refer to Fig. 2)
- Align the lens hood alignment mark 2 on the lens hood with the lens hood release mark on the lens.
- Rotate the lens hood in the direction of the arrow until the lens hood lock mark 3 aligns with the lens hood release mark 5.
Storing the Lens Hood (Refer to Fig. 3)
- You can store the lens hood by attaching it in reverse.
- Align the lens hood lock mark 3 on the lens hood with the lens hood release mark 5 on the lens.
- Rotate the lens hood in the direction of the arrow until the lens hood alignment mark 2 aligns with the lens hood release mark 5.
- Be aware that the periphery of the photographed image may be dark if the lens hood is not attached properly.
PRECAUTIONS WHEN SHOOTING
- An internal focusing (IF) system is used to achieve the minimum focus distance. When shooting at a distance less than infinity, the angle of view may be wider than that of lenses with other focusing systems.
- The lens hood or lens barrel may obstruct the light from the flash. Trial shots are recommended beforehand.
- Differences in the display systems of cameras may cause values different from the maximum and minimum aperture values in the specifications to be displayed. This is not an indication of an error.
- Do not touch the lens-camera interface contacts with your fingers. Otherwise, it may cause a malfunction.
- Condensation may occur if the temperature changes suddenly, causing a malfunction.
- The front element is coated with a smudge-proof coating. Clean the dust off the lens surface with a blower or similar tool, and then wipe it with a dry cloth.
- Never use gasoline, thinner, or other organic solvents to clean the lens.
- Store your lens in a clean and well-ventilated place.
