Safety Warnings and Cautions

WARNING! This product contains small parts that can be a choking hazard. Do not let children play with any of these small parts! Keep children away from the work area during installation.

CAUTION: This product is intended to be installed by professional installation contractors, or persons familiar with the tools and methods required for this installation. If you are not sure about your ability to perform this installation, you must contact a professional. MantelMount is not responsible for damage or injury caused by incorrect installation or improper use.

CAUTION: Do not let children operate, pull on, or hang from MantelMount. Do not let children push MantelMount upward to the top position - this will cause the mount to slam against the wall due to the upward force of the springs. Only a person tall enough to control the mount all the way to the top should operate MantelMount.

CAUTION: Do not use this product in any way, or for any purpose, that is not specifically described in these instructions. MantelMount is not responsible for damage or injury caused by incorrect installation or improper use.

Important Adjustments

MantelMount has four different adjustments that must be made after the installation is complete in order to operate properly:

U.S. Pat. No. 8,864,092

Required and Optional Tools

Required Tools: 7/32", 4-5mm, 10-14mm

Optional Tools: 1½"

Before you begin, please verify that all components are included and undamaged. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact MantelMount. Never proceed with missing or damaged parts! Lay out all components and make sure you identify that each one has a match in the diagram. Some of the parts included will not be used during installation. Do not proceed if you do not understand and identify all of the components.

Component Identification

A detailed list and visual representation of all included parts is provided on pages 2 and 14-15 of the manual, including various screws, bolts, washers, spacers, braces, the lifting mechanism, wall plate, and optional side swivel kit components.

Critical Installation Requirements

Please verify that your installation meets all of these CRITICAL requirements:

  1. MantelMount Design: Designed for use only with decorative fireplaces that are not the primary heat source for a house. Temperature at the front edge of the mantle should never exceed 110° F.
  2. Wall Structure: Wall must be WOOD STUD FRAME only. There must be at least 2 studs available for mounting. Wall covering must not exceed 5/8 inch thick. For other types of walls or installations, visit the FAQ section at www.MantelMount.com.
  3. Mantle Extension: Mantle must not extend from the mounting surface more than 16 inches. Mantel Mount cannot extend past a mantle larger than 16 inches. Larger mantels will also reduce the amount of side-to-side swivel.
  4. Television Requirements:
    • Weight must be between 20 - 90 pounds.
    • Screen size larger than 44 diagonal inches.
    • Mounting screw holes are VESA compliant. For non-VESA hole patterns, visit the FAQ section at www.MantelMount.com.
  5. Vertical Space: The space above the mantle must be taller than the TV. The required space depends on how far out the mantle extends. Refer to the chart below for additional height needed:
    • Less than 8 inches mantle extension: TV height plus 5 inches required space.
    • 8 - 10 inches mantle extension: TV height plus 6 inches required space.
    • 10 - 12 inches mantle extension: TV height plus 7 inches required space.
    • 12 - 16 inches mantle extension: TV height plus 9 inches required space.

Installation Steps

The installation process involves several detailed steps:

  1. Determine TV Back Type: Use a Vertical Brace {31} to determine if your television has a flat back or an irregular back. Irregular backs may require spacers and longer screws. Ensure braces are parallel to the TV screen.
  2. Select TV Screws: Choose the correct screw diameter and length for the TV. Hand-thread screws to ensure adequate thread engagement without hitting internal components. Use minimal spacers if required.
  3. Screw Combinations: Various screw and spacer combinations are shown for different TV mounting scenarios.
  4. Vertical Brace Positioning: Vertical Braces {31} are fixed 3 inches higher than the bottom of the Wall Plate {32}. This can be used to calculate TV height.
  5. Mounting Vertical Braces: Attach Vertical Braces {31} to the TV, ensuring they are a few inches higher than the bottom of the TV for optimal clearance.
  6. Attaching Extenders and Braces: Attach Brace Extenders {30} and the Horizontal Brace {55} using the provided screws and nuts. Attach the Center Handle {53} ensuring it is within one inch of the TV bottom.
  7. Measure Distance: Measure the distance from the bottom of the Vertical Braces {31} to the bottom of the TV or Sound Bar. This measurement is used in Step 9.
  8. Determine Wall Plate Vertical Position: Calculate the required installation height based on mantle extension and the measurement from Step 8, using the provided chart.
  9. Locate Studs and Mark: Measure the mantle centerline and mark it. Use a stud finder to locate studs and mark their centers for lag bolt installation.
  10. Align and Drill Wall Plate Holes: Align the Wall Plate {32} to studs above the mantle, using the height determined in Step 9. Level the plate and mark lag bolt locations. Pre-drill holes to a depth of 2.5 inches (65mm), ensuring wall covering does not exceed 5/8 inch.
  11. Attach Wall Plate: Secure the Wall Plate {32} to the studs using Lag Bolts {17} and Washers {11}. Do not overtighten.
  12. Align Lifting Mechanism: Align the center of the Lifting Mechanism {35} to the center mark on the Wall Plate {32} and install 4 Bolts {14}. Tighten securely. Avoid scratching gas spring rods.
  13. Determine Swivel Setting: The MM540 is designed for 35° left and right swivel. An optional Side Swivel Kit can provide 60° swivel in one direction only, for specific installations without a mantle. Note: The "Auto-Straightening" feature does not work with Swivel Extenders.
  14. Install Side Swivel Kit (Optional): If using the kit, remove the Swivel TV Plate, install Side Swivel Plates {56} onto the Lifting Mechanism, and re-attach the Swivel TV Plate.
  15. Attach Cable Ties: Insert Cable Tie Anchors {22} into the Lower Arm of the Lifting Mechanism. Use Cable Ties {24} to secure cables, ensuring they have enough slack for movement and are not pinched.
  16. Install TV Brace: Install the TV Brace {33} to the Lifting Mechanism {35}, leveling it and tightening screws {15} and locknuts {23}.
  17. Two-Person Installation: This step requires two people. Hang the TV onto the TV Brace {33}, ensuring all four hooks on the Vertical Braces {31} engage. Prevent the TV from hitting the mantle.
  18. Center TV and Adjust: Center the TV on the TV Frame and check with a level. Slide the TV sideways up to 2 inches if needed for balance. If significant off-center adjustment is required, relocate the Wall Plate {32}.
  19. Install TV Brace Screws: Install 4 Screws {15} through the TV Brace {33} and into the Vertical Braces {31}.

Adjustments

  1. Adjusting Bottom Stop Position: Loosen locknuts and adjust Bottom Stop screws to set the desired stopping position for the TV in the DOWN position. Ensure even adjustment for a level TV. Tighten locknuts.
  2. Adjusting Side Swivel Stop Positions: Loosen locknuts and adjust Swivel Stop screws for desired stopping positions. Tighten locknuts. For no swivel, locknuts may need to be repositioned.
  3. Adjusting for Television Weight (Lifting Force): With the Safety Bolt {20} in place, use a socket wrench to adjust the main bolt in the Lifting Mechanism {35}. Turn clockwise to increase lifting force (for heavier TVs) or counter-clockwise to decrease it (for lighter TVs). Adjust until the TV gently stays in the lowered position and almost stays up when raised, but can be easily lowered to the Bottom Stop. Do not adjust to the very bottom, as this is for gas spring removal only.
  4. Adjusting Vertical Tilt Position: Use the two sliding knobs on the Tilt Mechanism to set the TV's tilt. Slightly loosen the knobs, position the TV, and then tighten the knobs. The tilt angle remains consistent during movement.
  5. Wiring and Wall Cover: For wiring, cut a hole through a Wall Cover {57} using a Hole Saw drill bit. Support the Wall Cover during drilling. Paint Wall Covers if desired and snap them onto the Wall Frame. The Safety Bolt can now be removed.

Final Cautions

CAUTION: Never release the handle before it is fully upright. MantelMount is strongest in the top position, and allowing it to slam closed can damage televisions. Always control the lifting process.

CAUTION: Never allow children to play around or operate MantelMount. Property damage or personal injury can occur.
