Ozobot Bit+ Quick Start Guide
Your first steps with the Ozobot Bit+ educational robot.
Introduction
Welcome to the world of Ozobot Bit+! This guide will help you get started with your new educational robot, designed to introduce coding concepts through fun, hands-on interaction.
What's Included
- Ozobot Bit+ Robot
- USB Charging Cable
- Starter Stickers
- Quick Start Guide (this document)
Getting Started
Charging Your Ozobot
Connect the included USB cable to the Ozobot Bit+'s charging port and a power source. A red light indicates charging. The light turns green when fully charged. A full charge typically takes about 1 hour.
Charging port location: ? on the underside of the robot.
Powering On and Off
To turn on your Ozobot Bit+, press and hold the power button located on the back of the robot for 2 seconds. A blue light will flash, indicating it's on. To turn it off, press and hold the power button again for 2 seconds.
Power button: ⚡ on the rear of the robot.
Calibration
Before its first use, or if it's not responding correctly, calibrate your Ozobot Bit+. Place the robot on a flat surface or a printed calibration marker (often a black circle). Press the power button once. The Ozobot will flash white lights, then emit a short sound and flash green when calibration is complete. This helps the sensors accurately detect lines and codes.
Calibration marker: ⭕ or a designated spot on a printed sheet.
Basic Operation
Following Lines
Ozobot Bit+ is designed to follow drawn lines. Use a black marker on a white surface to draw lines. The Ozobot's optical sensors will detect the line and follow its path. Lines should be at least 4mm thick for optimal tracking.
Tip: Ensure lines are continuous and do not have breaks.
Understanding Color Codes
Ozobot Bit+ reads specific sequences of colored lines, known as Color Codes, to perform actions. These codes are typically placed at intersections or along lines.
Common Color Codes and their functions:
- Speed Up: ⬆️
- Slow Down: ⬇️
- Spin: ?
- Pause: ⏸️
- Navigate: [Turn Left/Right]
For a complete list of Color Codes, refer to the Ozobot website.
Using OzoPath (Optional)
OzoPath is a web-based tool that allows you to create custom paths and programs for your Ozobot Bit+. Visit the Ozobot website to explore OzoPath and design your own robot adventures.
Troubleshooting
- Ozobot not moving: Ensure it is charged and powered on. Check if it's on a clear, continuous line.
- Ozobot not reading Color Codes: Ensure the codes are drawn clearly with the correct colors and thickness. Recalibrate the Ozobot.
- Ozobot not following lines: Check line thickness and ensure there are no gaps. Clean the optical sensors on the underside of the robot.
