IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General Warnings
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY TO PERSONS, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Use this unit only as intended by the manufacturer. For questions, contact the manufacturer using the address or telephone number in the warranty.
- Before servicing or cleaning, switch off power at the service panel and lock it to prevent accidental power restoration. If the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely attach a prominent warning device (e.g., a tag) to the service panel.
- Installation and electrical wiring must be performed by qualified persons in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction codes.
- Adequate air is necessary for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel-burning equipment to prevent backdrafting. Follow the heating equipment manufacturer's guidelines and safety standards (e.g., NFPA, ASHRAE) and local code authorities.
- When cutting or drilling into walls or ceilings, do not damage electrical wiring or other hidden utilities.
- Ducted fans must always be vented outdoors.
- To reduce fire risk, use only metal ductwork.
- If local regulations impose more restrictive installation or certification requirements, those requirements prevail over this document, and the installer agrees to conform at their own expense.
To Reduce the Risk of a Range Top Grease Fire:
- Never leave surface units unattended at high settings. Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spills that may ignite. Heat oils slowly on low or medium settings.
- Always turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or when flambeing food (e.g., Crêpes Suzette, Cherries Jubilee, Peppercorn Beef Flambé).
- Clean ventilating fans frequently. Grease should not accumulate on the fan or filter.
- Use proper pan size. Always use cookware appropriate for the size of the surface element.
To Reduce the Risk of Injury to Persons in the Event of a Range Top Grease Fire:
- Smother flames with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the burner. Be careful to prevent burns. If flames do not extinguish immediately, evacuate and call the fire department.
- NEVER pick up a flaming pan – you may be burned.
- DO NOT USE WATER, including wet dishcloths or towels – a violent steam explosion will result.
- Use an extinguisher ONLY if:
- You have a Class ABC extinguisher and know how to operate it.
- The fire is small and contained.
- The fire department is being called.
- You can fight the fire with your back to an exit.
*Based on "Kitchen Fire Safety Tips" published by NFPA.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS (Continued)
- For indoor use only.
- For general ventilating only. Do not use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and vapors.
- To reduce the risk of fire or electrical shock, this range hood should not be used with an additional solid-state speed control device.
- To reduce the risk of shock, disconnect power before servicing.
- To reduce the risk of fire and to properly exhaust air, ensure air is ducted outside. Do not vent exhaust air into spaces within walls or ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or garages.
PLAN THE INSTALLATION
- Mounting height MUST be a minimum of 22 inches and a maximum of 30 inches above the cooking surface, measured from the bottom edge of the range hood.
- The hood shall be mounted to the bottom of a standard wall cabinet. If mounting directly to a wall, secure the hood to wall studs.
- All wiring must comply with local codes and the unit must be properly grounded. Connection should be made to a 110-120 VAC lighting circuit (15A) in the circuit breaker or fuse box.
- This range hood is "Convertible"; it may be installed as a ducted or a non-ducted unit.
If the Range Hood is to be Non-Ducted:
- Purchase non-ducted (duct-free) charcoal filter Model RFQTC.
If the Range Hood is to be Ducted:
- Ductwork can be installed vertically or horizontally.
- Duct runs should be as short as possible.
- Avoid the use of elbows.
- Use metal foil duct tape at all joints.
- Do not use duct smaller than the discharge on the hood.
- For 7" round ductwork installation, use 7" round damper, Model BP87, and 7" adaptor, Model K4892000, both sold separately.

Installation Diagrams Explained
Figure 1: HORIZONTAL DISCHARGE THROUGH WALL
This diagram illustrates the setup for horizontal ducting through a wall. It shows a kitchen cabinet, the range hood, a supplied duct transition, and a wall cap. Key dimensions for cutouts are provided: 17/16" for wiring, 51/8" and 101/4" for the main duct opening, and 33/4" for a specific cutout. It notes to remove the damper transition for this installation.
Figure 2: VERTICAL DISCHARGE USING 3¼" x 10" DUCT
This diagram shows a range hood installed for vertical exhaust using a 3¼" x 10" duct. It includes top and back views with cutout dimensions. Components shown are the range hood, a supplied duct transition, an elbow (Model 428), a 3¼" x 10" duct (Model 401), a wall cap (Model 639 or 649), and a roof cap (Model 634 or 644). An eave cap is also depicted. It indicates the electrical knockout (ELEC. K. O.) and dimensions for the duct opening.
Figure 3: VERTICAL DISCHARGE (7" ROUND DUCT)
This diagram illustrates vertical exhaust using a 7" round duct. It provides top and back views with cutout dimensions. Components include the range hood, an adjustable elbow (Model 415), a 7" round duct (Model 407), a 7" round damper (Model BP87, not included), and a 7" round duct transition (Model K4892000, not included). It also shows a roof cap (Model 634 or 644) and notes that for a wall cap, Model 647 should be used. A crucial instruction is to remove both 3¼" x 10" and 4½" x 8" knockouts for the 7" duct installation.
PREPARATION
WARNING: When performing installation, servicing, or cleaning the unit, it is recommended to wear safety glasses and gloves.
- Use the dimensional drawings (Refer to FIGURES 1-3) to lay out the range hood's mounting holes, wiring access, and ductwork by marking the cabinet bottom and drywall where applicable.
- Make cutouts for wiring and ductwork.
- If the hood is to be ducted, install the ductwork so that it is flush to the range hood's mounting surface.
- Refer to FIGURE 1 for horizontal discharge installation.
- Refer to FIGURE 2 and FIGURE 3 for vertical discharge installation.
- Run a two-conductor wire (with ground) from a power source to the hood location. Bring approximately 12" of wiring through the wiring hole in the cabinet.
- Drill four 3/32" diameter pilot holes at points where mounting holes are marked in the cabinet bottom.
- Insert four mounting screws, leaving approximately 1/4" of thread exposed.
- Remove and retain the mounting screws securing the 3¼" x 10" duct transition to the hood.
INSTALLATION
- Remove the necessary duct opening and wiring knockout from the range hood.
- If installing as a non-ducted unit, remove only the wiring knockout.
- If installing as a ducted unit, a baffle plate is provided to close off the non-ducted vent. Install the baffle plate (Refer to FIGURE 4) by sliding it into place behind the grille. Use locator bumps to orient it in the grille.
- For 7" round discharge installation, refer to FIGURE 5. Secure the 7" adapter (Model K4892000, sold separately) to the top of the hood. Install the 7" round damper (Model BP87, sold separately).
